Omfg- this is some cuteness overload. Damn. It makes me miss my guinea pig. Gretel was always a joy to come home to.

Buster was a jealous mama's boy! Both he and Gretel passed away last Spring. :heart:

I see it as a fair trade off. Some women melt into a pile of goo at the sight of babies. I don't want a baby. I've raised too many people's children already. I want a bunny- preferably two (they're happier in pairs). We can't get a puppy until the backyard is fenced in after we're married. So, I want some cute, cuddly bunnies to take care of and love. IS THIS TOO MUCH TO ASK?!

Last I read about it, the general thinking is that the cute response to baby animals is evolutionarily ingrained in us, because if we don't kill baby animals, they grow up to be bigger, more filling animals. Supposedly other animals have the cute response as well.

I still have my first teddy bear, too. My mom took it to a "toy hospital" right after I had my son to get it restuffed and fixed up. She took my first doll, too. I don't let the kids play with the bear, but I gave the doll to my daughter last year.

I still have a stuffed cat that my grandmother gave me to console me when we were fixing to move away from the States when I was 3, and couldn't take our cat with us. His name is Rocky, like the cat we had at the time.

I gave him to my daughter a while back. She still loves on him and plays with him (although her "baby" is an Eeyore stuffie)

Some of them are, unfortunately... My sister ended up adopting two who were going to be sent to a shelter by a lady, because in the process of breeding them, they ended up with spine defects. One was not so noticeable, but the other one had a SEVERELY bent spine, to the point where she couldn't run straight, and was unable to jump up properly.

Poor Ellie-roo... she died because she got caught somewhere and couldn't get out because of her back. My sister was mortified. Her brother Motor is still doing fine, though.... despite his fluffy paws and my sister's linoleum...

Sigh. I didn't think @Tress was being mean, but I was hoping that would not be the case. I know cats pretty well (though I'm no certified expert), and at the end of that video, that kitten is in some obvious distress. It reminded me of another video (which I will not link here, because this ain't the place for it) where a kitten exhibits the exact same panic behavior/vocalizations in a situation far worse than that one. The rescuers in that one manage to free that animal and deliver it to a shelter, but that one also died within a couple days (from shock/exposure, from injury, the exact cause is not mentioned). When I saw this video, I had hoped that this one made it, y'know?

As far as the ethical value of the commercial? No, I don't think that its message is diluted by the eventual outcome. The guy was obviously documenting his daily life, something which would otherwise be difficult to do, and the camera in question is one designed to do that job, and the subject matter is a good example of the sort of thing that would be lost without its presence. Without the camera, it would've merely made an inspirational tale. With the camera, it's a much more immersive experience. I don't believe that the guy who cut together the original video did it as a self-aggrandizing bid for fame, I think he did it to show that he takes his duty seriously and also extends his responsibility to the non-humans he meets (in the original video, he even identifies himself as vegan). I also think that the camera manufacturer saw this as a combination of a good example of the camera's capability as well as one which matches the image they wish to portray. I don't feel like any of them are glorifying nor profiting by the death of the animal, I doubt anyone involved was at all responsible for initially putting that kitten into harm's way in order to sell cameras, and I don't feel like they are trying to suggest that the kitten will be saved if I buy enough cameras or give it enough Likes on Facebook or something. The kitten may have ultimately failed its saving throw (even with the +3 provided by the firefighter, and this is indeed sad), but I got to at least see a guy legitimately attempt to save it, and it's nice to see evidence that there exist people who care about anonymous kittens.

Yep. I saw the original video as a "Day in the life" sort of thing, probably originally imagined/uploaded as a vehicle to promote his veganism, but derailed/repurposed after finding the kitten. GoPro adapted it further to promote their product, suggesting that their product is used by heroes doing heroic things. As regards the commercial itself, it didn't change my opinion of the product at all. My commentary was not documenting my conversion from not caring into caring, it was supposed to call out how the product and the commercial promotion got ignored because it interfered with watching the story unfold.

Granted, a large chihuahua (10 inches the shoulder) and a small great dane (30 inches at the should) aren't quite so stark next to each other, the reality is that a male great dane cannot inseminate a female chihuahua using natural means, and the reverse is just as unlikely using natural means.

Nacho was a very large, very well behaved Chihuahua. Haven't seen either the dog or the owner in years though. He ended up buying his grandparents' farm, so I hear, and is comfortably well off with no debt after a divorce, so he's just a great big walking contradiction of a person. Every so often he'll just post something on his facebook to the order of "I got my shotgun, I got a propane tank... I'm goin out back and see what I can figure out."

Things got a lot more boring around here when he moved away.
