The tsunami has hit but it was only 1 m in height due to the depth and distance of the temblor.

The latest from Kyodo News is that "no problem at all 6 reactors of Fukushima Dai-Ichi" nuclear power plant after this latest earthquake, according to Tokyo Electric Power Co.

After first saying it was a 7.4-magnitude earthquake, the U.S. Geological Survey is now saying it was a 7.1-magnitude temblor. It also puts the time of the quake at 10:32 a.m. ET — 11:32 p.m. local time in Japan.

When does Typhoon Season start?

They really can't seem to catch a break right now.

What's the difference between an earthquake and a temblor? I thought they were the same thing.

It is just a way to not say earthquake twice in a row, in the same paragraph.

If they said it any other way it would be redundantly repetitive.

When we were in San Diego the news broadcasts used "temblor" when it was something insignificant like a 3.0 that barely rattled a window. Maybe they just used the different terms there so people wouldn't freak out over something small. But it did make me think there could be some sort of difference.

I laughed. I shouldn't have, but I laughed. That's not the right animation though....

I know, I searched really hard for the "earthquake" one, but it's just not there. That was the closest I could get.

Speaking of video games, http://speeddemosarchive.com/ is holding Japan Relief Done Quick (to benefit Doctors Without Borders). They're speed running a whole bunch of games on a livestream with video of both the game and the player(s). They're holding drawings for prizes, and possibly doing other stuff (during the last charity drive they did, they let people pay to name characters, choose outfits, make them wear funny hats in real life and such). If you want to know what's going to be run, you can check out the schedule.
