Because wait, other people are running besides Hillary and The Cheeto That Walks Like A Man?
It's hard for me to care about the WV races this year. There's no Senate race this year. The House race is nearly uncontested. The incumbent McKinley has raised and spent orders of magnitude more than his opponent, Mike Manypenny. Which isn't so impressive when you find Manypenny hasn't even raised $10K. Suggests the Democrats are giving up on this race. Or gave up before it started. Manypenny was the only candidate on the primary ballot.
Governor? Fuck 'em both. Bill Cole and Jim Justice are nothing but water carriers for Big Coal. Justice went so far as saying the answer to the domestic violence problem was "more coal jobs." Justice is another one of those businessmen with no political experience and a trail of unpaid bills running for office this year. I'm inclined to either go for Charlotte Pritt of the Mountain Party (WV's version of the Greens), or just write in 101-year-old Ken Hechler.
The state legislature races are the usual suspects that wind up on the ballot every year. Only this time the Democrats are the ones on the outside looking in. I can only write in Ken Hechler once, you say? Then write him in once I shall and leave the other 3-4 choices blank.
I thank my lucky stars that there is no television in the lobby at work. That plus not watching local stations after means I've been able to avoid nearly all political ads this year.
Anyway, WV looks to be screwed come November. You guys looking any better/worse?
Ya, I'll admit when I saw that "Manypenny" had no money, I laughed. I can't believe I didn't pick up the Cole=Coal thing though.Sooo....Cole, in favor of Big Coal, Justice as a corrupt and unjust dick, and Manypenny the politician with no money. Are you sure you're living in the real world and not in a cheesy movie universe?
I have 0 thoughts or knowledge about this election but I love that party name.I'm voting for Charlotte Pritt. One time Democratic nominee for governor (lost to Cecil Underwood), and now running under the Mountain Party (WV's Green affiliate) banner.
Is it Grothman?Well, my local congressman is running. You know how everyone says congress is fucked up, but their local congressman is good? Not me. Mine is an anti-semetic asshole who was the first congressman to support Trump. I also went to high school with his kids. Back when he was county executive I loved seeing official taxpayer funded cars at high school parties. Not like this guy is worth 10s of millions of dollars or anything. Taxpayers gotta pay for his kids to get around. I know next to nothing about his opponent but she'll get my futile vote.
Also we are electing one senator. The incumbent has been around for awhile, but his opponent seems to be a standard republican. Nothing really appealing about her to me so I guess I'll vote for the incumbent.
I'll have to look into the state senators and state house members more. Honestly, at this point my pet issue is to make Uber legal in Buffalo. Anyone who promises that will most likely have my vote.
I mostly made this post to comment how much I can't stand that congressman.
Only way that's going to change is if voters do something.Party over country. It's the republican way.
I do all I can but I live in Nebraska. Backwards-assed country fucks who vote against their own interests because of the letter (R).Only way that's going to change is if voters do something.
You know what to do.

Do you honestly believe that's unique to the Republicans?Party over country. It's the republican way.
This year it's certainly more noticeable on that side.Do you honestly believe that's unique to the Republicans?
Since Trump is the first ever halfway legitimate candidate who might actually be anti-American, this is the first test that the members of any party have faced in this regard. This year it's certainly more noticeable on that side.

Given the number that say "fuck no, he's horrid, vote for somebody else other than Hillary and/or write-in," I'd ask how many Democrats are doing that? So I'd say it's the opposite with regards to party loyalty this year, in that Republicans are more willing to go against it in the face of... that horrificness. The Dems as a whole are not doing the same for nearly-but-not-quite-as-bad horrificness. This year it's certainly more noticeable on that side.
Fuck Ron Johnson.I spoke too soon. The Kochs, realizing that the presidency is lost, are trying their damndest to at least pay for their senators.
You got the cool amendments; our is just about replacing people if a term ends abruptly. Boring. We have a couple of amendments, single payer healthcare, right to die, trying to make it harder to amend the state constitution, bringing back primaries instead of caucuses, allowing independents to vote in party primaries, and a couple of local elections like raising town sales tax to fund a new police office, and a mill levy for the school district because most of the schools are overcrowded.
It's also not getting much coverage here. I've already explained it (like a 10-15 minute each time) to a half dozen voters, not one had heard of it. You got me hooked on that podcast with that reference, anyhow.Yeah, the Georgia one. I think I mentioned it but didn't do a link. Fantastic story, but very depressing when you think about it.
I've noticed that Ira is really bummed about this election and what has happened to the Republican party. This week the stories delve into how we came to this point and where it began. It's also not getting much coverage here. nothing "happened" to them. someone just turned up the volume. trump didn't bring one new person into the party.I've noticed that Ira is really bummed about . . . what has happened to the Republican party. .
Shhh, it will all be over soon. (quick, someone shoot him, for his own good)nothing "happened" to them. someone just turned up the volume. trump didn't bring one new person into the party.
That type of talk is exactly the wrong thing to do, and is blind. It's not enough to defeat the GOP, they must be destroyed.
I read it. My point stands. There's a reason people are ever more accepting of random weird conspiracy shit, and it isn't the fluoride in the water, you know. And if you think "the crazy" isn't part of why so many "fringe" parties are soaring over here, you're blind, too. Any sort of conspiracy or "oh my god, did you hear...." story is fuel for the mill. A basic disconnect - a lot of people simply don't believe anything coming from serious sources anymore, simply because it comes from those sources. Really, I know you can't read them, but you should see some of the stories that gain traction around here. Or the crazy ways people have to twist and turn to make their opinions still make sense on burkini, and freedom, and ritual slaughter, and resettlement, and what have you.The point Mr. Pitts is making is the party is far too willing to embrace the fringe. The "jet fuel doesn't melt steel beams" and "the moon landing was a hoax" tinfoil hat crowd. The type that see a gub'mint conspiracy behind every bush.
Actually, did you even read the article, or were you just responding to my sentence?

@Dirona had a saying about when buying a house, remember that the only thing you can't change is the location. It gets better. By better, I mean worse. Justice never bothered to tell his own staff that this was coming.
If I could pick up and move this house, I'd go anywhere but here in a heartbeat.
Except for Mobile Homes. And Campers. And Tiny Homes are pretty mobile too.@Dirona had a saying about when buying a house, remember that the only thing you can't change is the location.
This one's not tiny. And it has a full basement.Except for Mobile Homes. And Campers. And Tiny Homes are pretty mobile too.
So, like Trump, you want the Soviets to take over. This one's not tiny. And it has a full basement.
I had a dream that somehow a group managed to basically overrun the state 5x over and replace the entire electorate. EVERY elected position in the state was replaced by someone who was neither Democrat nor Republican (but definitely left of center.)
My vote is on Dave fucked something up again.
