News just broke that Akira Toriyama has passed away. While he had many creative achievements, he is best known for creating Dragonball and Dragonball Z.

Damn, that sucks.

"The creator of Dragon Ball, one of the most influential and best-selling Japanese comics of all time, has died at 68. Akira Toriyama succumbed to acute subdural hematoma, a type of bleeding near the brain, his studio said Friday."

Sad that he's gone. I grew up with characters he designed and stories he worked on. Of course Dragonball (the first show, not Dragonball Z), but also Dr. Slump and later Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest (the games got released later in Germany). Dr Slump was the first manga I bought.

Damn, 68 is not that old.

68 in mangaka years is like 135 years old.

It has been pretty amazing seeing how many people his work has touched.
