Anonymous arrests: saw this coming.

Apparently governments don't like their shit messed with.

Interpol has arrested 25 suspected members of the Anonymous hackers group in a swoop covering more than a dozen cities in Europe and Latin America, the global police body said Tuesday.

"Operation Unmask was launched in mid-February following a series of coordinated cyber-attacks originating from Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Spain," Interpol said.

The statement cited attacks on the websites of the Colombian Ministry of Defense and the presidency, as well as on Chile's Endesa electricity company and its National Library, among others.

The operation was carried out by police from Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Spain, the statement said, with 250 items of computer equipment and cell phones seized in raids on 40 premises in 15 cities.
I'm going to stay neutral on whether Anonymous is a good thing or a bad thing, but I'm surprised it took so long for governments to crack down on the group. I wonder whether members of Anonymous will continue to have as many participants if these kind of crackdowns continue, or whether most of the participants are simply kids who think it's a game and flee at the sight of consequences.

I'm actually not sure which it would be.

Queue claims they aren't really anonymous members, blah, blah, blah.

I was surprised to learn that three of those four countries even had internet access.
Queue claims they aren't really anonymous members, blah, blah, blah.
Oh come on. Chile? Colombia? Argentina? This is some serious third stringer kabuki law enforcement theater here. I'm not saying they "aren't anonymous," but this is like arresting a few wisecracking newsies and claiming to have brought the hammer down on organized crime.

Wake me when the "crackdown" gets outside the third world.

Yep which is why if someone gets arrested for anything to do with anons actions the claims come out that they're not really members, blah, blah, blah.

2 things

1. he is douchier than I expected, and

b. Shouldn't the whole thing get tossed out of court? Since he entrapped other individuals to attack the FBI while working for the FBI?

I believe it's only ever considered entrapment if you force people to do something, then arrest them.

Entrapment (1999)
Gin: I said this is called entrapment!
Mac: No, actually it's called blackmail. Entrapment is what cops do to thieves.

That cuts both ways: Yes, people will get caught and made an example of by the government, but such hamfisted operations just inspire more people to strike against the government.
