They're saying it's a traffic stop gone bad. Every cop's worst nightmare. That's why when I get pulled over, I always leave both hands on the top of the dash until the officer asks for my license.

I turn off the car, put the key on the roof and place my hands on the wheel. If I have to reach for anything I say, "I have to go into my glove box to get that. Is that okay?" or something similar. There's a reason cops hate traffic stops and showing them a bit of courtesy goes a long way.

Hm, keys on the roof - not a bad idea.

it is way too cold to turn the car off.

Most recent report I read (from a VTech'er who'd been listening in on the police scanner all afternoon) was that there was a traffic stop, but during the stop a 3rd party approached the officer, opened fire on said officer, then ran to the parking garage where the second body was found and apparently took his own life.

I hope the stop wasn't related like setting up an ambush or something.
Well, usually this is not a problem in texas... though in the grip of summer I might be reluctant to lose air conditioning while the cop fills out his paperwork before coming to talk to me.
Guess I'll just have to not get pulled over, I suppose.
