Another Random Thought- South Park

Do you think South Park would be as amusing* using a different animation style or is the style part of its appeal?

*assuming you find it amusing in the first place.

Definitely not.

Well the question is complicated it has two parts. So if you say no to both you are actually contradicting yourself...and therefore I don't know what you mean... >.>

Just apply the opposite answer to part 2 of the question.

I know you had a note ruling out the dislikers. I think the animation style is a bit part of what loses me. From what I hear from the fans, I could find a lot of appeal in it. So in my case, it probably would be more amusing if the animation style were different.

I did get a good laugh out of that though. I have a prof who would have smacked me for that question. "Do not ask compound questions!" *smack*

Personally I think there are other animation styles I would enjoy south park in. Like the style used for Recess.

The reason I wondered this was I am watching the ep about George Lucas and changing classic movies to update them. The SP guys were making fun of it by proposing updating the early eps of south park to make them newer and more expensive looking. As if that were bad. I was thinking "that would be awesome!" I would love them to update the animation. I also find it funny that anyone would use the word "charm" to describe a show with Cartman in it. Hehe. Oh cartman.

South Park was the original "Adult Swim" show. Very low quality animation meets highly controversial topics/nonsense. It worked, a formula was born, now we have an entire channel devoted to it.

If they updated the animation, they wouldn't be able to be as current as they are. Using the minimalistic animation style and their computers, they can crank an episode out in a week or two if they REALLY want to address something immediately, and I personally feel that the timeliness is part of the appeal of the show.

The writing has always been the big draw for me to South Park, so I don't think changing the animation style would hurt it, in my eyes. But now it IS part of it's "thing" so I don't think they ever would even though they have the budget for higher quality now. Plus, what Ashburner said - they might not be able to address topics as-they-happen if they took more time to do the animation, so that could be a detriment to their social "take that" episodes.

I think the cheap animation helps set it apart from other shows. It needs to be set apart. If it looked like any Saturday Morning Cartoon, think of the confusion it would cause...

They can also get away with the gross and tasteless because the art is so bad. Like the WarCraft episode, where Cartman craps in the bedpan... how would that have gone over with the censors if it looked more real?

Probably about the same as some family guy episodes, I'd guess.

Nah, Family Guy can get away with anything because it's so boring that you lose your ability to be shocked.
