Anyone wanna get an MMO group going?

I played a murderer on a free server a while back, used the name "Willy Wonka" and everytime I killed someone, I'd loot them dry leaving only baked Chocolate Cakes and a small book with the inscription "Willy Wonka's Golden Ticket".

Alright, you've convinced me Shego, if we get a few people in, I wanna play a free Ultima Online server with you guys.

Because nobody ever put in any instructions as to HOW to get into a free server.

I've looked into UO a lot and basically concluded that it's just not my type of game, so I shall simply wish you all the best if you go that route.

Hopefully Star Trek or Aion will prove worthwhile and we can setup a group there.

Well except for UO, I'd love an EVE group. But most other MMOs just get dull to me in a short while. EVE lasts a lot longer due to it not being a grind fest. The most fun part of an MMO for me is crafting, bartering, auctioning and generally being smarter economically. That's why UO appeals to me too with its great crafting system.

Eve bored me eventually...heck, most of the 'leveling up' happened when I wasn't even online due to their real-time skill training system.

I guess you need to enjoy both the combat system and the complex economical world. Take WoW: the economy is quite small and primitive compared to that of EVE. For example, all goods are shared throughout the game. In EVE, clever selling & buying in different systems can make you a small fortune. Knowing where to sell and what to sell gives great depth to the game.

someone with a bit of experiences needs to take charge on the UO thing and just pick a shard/server whatever and let us know... if we just wait around this thread and its idea is gonna do like most other ideas and die off.

This is something I'm going to look into when I get home. There will be a server by then, even if I wind up picking it. And I don't wanna hear any complaints if that happens. you have your 8 hours to do so

Now, I'd love to check out UO if the option was there to disable PvP. I'm well aware of the fact that PvP is what made UO great, but I simply do not enjoy PvP where I have zero chance of winning and will come out of it worse than I came into it. It frustrates me so badly I just give up.

I would love to check out the gameplay of UO, though.

Seconded. Would also throw in SW: The Old Republic and the Agency.

Also, who knows what Blizz is going to pull out of their cap tomorrow/Saturday.

But that's the whole point! PvP in most MMOs is ridiculous. It's like a duel in ancient times. In UO, you can meet a PK (player killer) in the middle of a dungeon. You'll start sweating since you're carrying lots of loot. You'll race away from him, try to hide (you have a hiding skill which makes you completely invisible), try to get the monsters to distract him. It's exhilarating and tense! Not a SINGLE time in WoW did I ever feel tense. I died? Oh, I'll just run back as a ghost. In UO, your corpse is likely to have been looted of all your gear. You really will NOT want to die in UO. And that's what makes UO so good. At times you'll swear at the game but when you managed to get the PK back, you'll be happier than any silly item could make you.

Small story: I once had a thief steal an expensive item of mine. I was incredibly pissed off and decided to take revenge. In most games, this would not be possible, in UO? Oh, there's dozens of ways to do so. One involved me casting Earthquake in a crowded bank. Now, if you commit a crime, players can call the guards on you (you turn grey = criminal). A thief that has just stolen from you goes grey for example but since they're usually hidden while they steal, guards won't be able to be called. So I cast "Earthquake" which deals all creatures in a large area massive damage. Including other players. But since most players have a lot of health, they survived. I became a criminal though but ... thieves have little health. In fact, they pick intelligence and dexterity as their main skills resulting in low health. ONE earthquake resulted in FOUR dead thieves. Instantly killed by the Earthquake. And what did all the other players do? They didn't call guards. They all had a laugh, patted me on the back and waited until I turned blue (=no longer criminal) again. In the mean time, 4 thieves had died and got looted. Later, a blue would often ask those of low health to leave the bank and random earthquakes become a tradition to clean out thieves.

What about RF Online? There is a pretty good Free Server out there called RF equillibrium, and the population is pretty good too.
You can play either as a Magic Driven, Familar Summoning Cora (Elf); a Cyborg Fighter Race who gave up their Humanity, and the Tinker Race the Bellato who ride around on Freaking Mechs.

Cora (Bad Pic,most of the pics out there are Boob Shots; They Specialise in Summons)

Accrecia (Accrecian have a Specialized class that can use Launchers, takes a little while to set up,but hurt like hell)

Bellato (Usually the underdog race, MAUs, or Massively Armored Units, do Massive Damage, have tons of life but can only be repaired at home base,if they explode, their gone. You have to buy a new one,and thats expensive.)

It's VERY PVP driven, like every 8 hours there is a chip war where the 3 Races clash in a battle of epic proportions. When I lived in the Philippines there and the population on the server (run by Codemasters) was around 15k it wasnt a rarity that almost 80% of the server showed up during the chip wars.It was quite a sight seeing 1000 Black MAUs barreling down a hillside mowing down one enemy after another. Fun times.

I'd be interested in DDO as well... College will start around the same time the free release will happen, so I am not sure if I'll be busy or not.

I'm on Argonnessen on DDO. Johans Burrakas, level 3 wizard
really? I got 10 characters on Arg. one is level 11 the rest is like level 1 and 4 (give or take)

I have no problem starting out a new character since I am still learning all the new stuff in the game :) If y'all want to schedule a regular runs together, we can do that. Most of the quests upto 5 can run solo relatively easy. Beyond that it is easier with teams, but can still solo.

I wanna play something that's freeee (no credit card :()

UO sounds awesome... who would play with us if we set it up?

DDO will be free in a litlle over 2 weeks. At the rate we're moving this thread along, that should be just about right :)

There's no promise that the DDO mmo will be stable or great. Remember that the game is widely considered a flop due to poor implementation.

UO is a good way to go. (I love it.. longest I have ever play is 7 years also the longest MMO I have ever play)
I would LOVE Star Wars Galaxies BEFORE the big flop patch (i.e. no Jedi please)
RF online was cool. I hope that the person setting it up will give more money from digging than having to dig 24 hours a day to get enough money for stuff (and resources)
Earth and Beyond was a lot of fun. A simpler version of EVE
EVE would be awesome, but more than likely need to shrink the space quite a bit cause we will never see each other with such a small player base. Heck, there are time I don't see anyone on LIVE server when I'm in the remote area all by my lonesome.

Bummer, that sounds exactly like what you all were looking for.
Yea.. I been keeping up with that and there was a delay so I figure if someone else is gonna set it up.. that would be cool.

I don't have a server on the side to set anything up other than setting it up from my home, but then I need an extra PC for that.

callistarya and I are still playing ddo on sarlona, but it's sporadic..we never know exactly when we'll be playing

Right now I'm a 5/1 mage/rogue and she's a level 3 or 4 fighter.

Arise, ye thread! come forth from the annuls of yesteryear! LordRendar commands THEE!!! he spends 6 mana.

Seriously though, a grouping together, should we get soemthing that actually hold everyones interest, would be fun. But the key is the holding of interest.
