It's more likely now that the execs thinks they can pull in Avengers figures.

They probably could. The DC Heroes are much more well known than Marvel ones due to years of TV saturation. Pretty much everyone knows who Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are.

Yeah, if it's a good movie, JL would make Avengers look like nothing. My wife knows who the main JL members are. She had no clue who Iron Man, Thor, or Hawkeye were.

They've got a lot of setup work to do though, unless they want to just toss new versions of every character not named Superman into a movie together with no work establishing those versions of the characters.

I actually think that the relative unknown nature of the Avengers it part of why the movie was so successful. Since you don't know the characters, you go in with no expectations. That will be much harder to do with the DC heroes.

Besides, with the exception of the Nolan batman movies and the first Burton Batman, DC has a horrible track record for bringing their properties to live action film.

Now a fully animated JL movie, that might be a thing to see.

The other thing is that because Avengers is coming off of other movies as planned, there is consistency. As tolerant as we are all learning to become about reboots, a lot of people are going to be put off if Batman isn't Christian Bale, Superman isn't *insert name of actor playing Superman the year this thing happens*, Wonder Woman isn't Lynda Carter, etc.

I just dated the fuck out of myself, didn't I? :awesome:

Woah. Four-year-old me just got four-year-old wood.

(Which, for the record, is totally embarrassing for 37-year-old me.)
Well, you are called "fun size"...

I honestly think that, since the Justice League is so all over the map in terms of powers and origins, the best choice is to start with a Justice League movie and then follow it up with connected films.

I don't really think it will work out for them...

Batman in this age is defined by the Nolan movies. People are going to be looking for a very realistic take on the character, which will be hard to pull off when he is standing next to an alien and a demigod. It was the realistic dynamic that helped pull Batman out of the gutter caused by the Schumacher movies, and I think changing that will just remind people of movies like Batman and Robin more then The Dark Knight.

I might be wrong, they did pull off that Justice League cartoon awhile back that merged the Batman: Animated Series and Superman: Animated Series character and universes successfully, but I just worry it's going to be hard to shake Nolan's take on Batman without throwing off the audience. Say one thing about the Avengers, it had a really consistent take on the characters and universe, making it much easier to go in and feel "Oh ya, these are the same guys I have been following from 2008". Depending on how they do Justice League it may feel too foreign and won't gather the word of mouth needed to get Avengers numbers.

Well, with TDKR being the last of the Nolan Batman movies, people would have to get used to another version of Batman sometime down the line anyway.

Yes but it's better, at least to me, to start out getting to know the "new" Batman on his own terms then have to figure it out while people like Wonder Woman, Superman, The Flash, etc... are all trying to also get some screentime.

That goes back to the establishment of the Avengers. The movies leading up to it allowed us to get to know THESE characters (Well... minus Bruce Banner, as I felt Ruffalo did a much different take on the character then Norton). While the Avengers might have still made some decent money, I don't think it would have been the blockbuster if they got a whole new cast and had to establish all their individual takes on the character while also trying to establish the team, some people still complain about Ruffalo replacing Norton.

Again, I think it may still work depending on how they handled it, but I worry much more it's going to turn into another Batman and Robin or Superman Returns, only dragging down all the characters.

I agree with you, the way Marvel built up to The Avengers was a major component of its success.
But his name is Mark Ruffalo.

Personally I thought Ruffalo was a much better Banner.

I do see your point, though, we'd need something like a LotR-length JL movie to get to know all the heroes in even remotely the same way we knew most of the Avengers.

I remember being annoyed that Norton wouldn't reprise the role. I liked him in the Incredible Hulk. But damn, Ruffalo's performance made me forget about all that. He really hit a homerun.

I agree, I think I mentioned during an older post in this thread, but I consider his role the best take on Banner/Hulk in ages.

Exactly, many people already felt Hawkeye suffered a lot by not being utilized more in the older movies (He only got a very small, mostly silent Thor cameo), and I agree that his position on the team almost felt out of place in the grand scheme, even more so considering what he did the vast majority of the movie. The others, even Black Widow, just felt more established due to their larger appearances in other movies.

I guess what worries me the most is that Batman and Superman are the only two with a lot of mass presence, due to all the movies made for them since the 80s. Green Lantern only recently had a movie, and it pretty much bombed as far as the studios concerned. A Wonder Woman series was recently dropped, and when is the last time we really saw the Flash outside of the cartoon?

I just don't want us trying so hard to establish them in a Justice League movie that they decided to make all of them the "Hawkeyes" while everything else focuses on Superman and/or Batman.

Stark and Banner, coming this fall on Fox.

As for Norton, I've always felt he should have been cast in a live action Doctor Strange film inst-

... EXACTLY!

What kills me is I think Ryan Reynolds would have made a killer Flash. His snark is exactly how I'd picture a live-action JLA cartoon Flash.

Also, I think unlike Avengers, people would expect to see more of certain JLA-ers than others. For example I'd see Supes/Batman at the forefront, obviously, as the movie tries to build that brotherly/rivalry sort of bond they develop. Wonder Woman would likely be a foreground character as well, but I think guys like Martian Manhunter, Aquaman and the rest would get Hawkeye'd pretty hard. Hell, the JLA changes rosters so much I'm not even sure who they'd use without bloating the movie like Spider-Man 3. I guess Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Martian Manhunter and/or Aquaman?

Totally forgot about that show.

Still though, when is the last time we saw Flash in anything outside the cartoon RECENTLY?

I guess Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Martian Manhunter and/or Aquaman?
Don't really see them using Martian Manhunter or Aquaman. Aquaman has always been snubbed as a joke, which is why he barely even got cameos in the Justice League cartoon, never becoming a real member. Even his recent appearances in Batman: The Brave and the Bold have been purely comic relief.

Martian Manhunter I just don't see doing correctly, his story would take way to long to properly explain.

If anything I see them using one of the Green Lanterns, and depending on how well the new Arrow series does, a variation of Green Arrow (Though I see a lot of people unfairly connecting such a character to Hawkeye).

I felt bad when I was talking to my cousin about which of the other Marvel movies he'd seen.

"I wanna see the Hawkeye movie."
"Well ... there isn't one."

Out of character, no character interaction, mindless beat-em-up with horrendous overly designed costumes?
And the problem with that is? I'm sure Warner Bro's Justice League will be so much better than that clip, though.

And I hope the Avenger's re-release is not just a rumor. Would definitely see it.

The problem with that? Didn't I just mention every problem with that? Superman acts and looks more like the evil Superman from Superman III than he should.
