I'm loving just about everything about Arkham City. The addition of Two Face, the apparently increased mobility for travel, the design of the city. Most of it looks great.

Except for Harley Quinn. They took everything I hated about the B:AA design and distilled the costume down to that. She looks like generic biker slut now, not like she's part of a costumed rogue's gallery.

#5

ThatNickGuy

ThatNickGuy

To be perfectly honest, I hated Harley's design in AA. Then again, I'm a big fan of her original design.

At least the voice actor brings the character back to where she belongs. The writing and voice acting saved the terrible design big time. The same can easily be said for this one.

#6

Espy

Espy

I agree her costume in this seems a little... weak. Changing it is fine but it seems they just kind of threw the whole thing out the window.

I don't like Harley's new costume :( I do dig it in AA tho.
Catwoman is the same from DCUO (or REALLY close) which is awesome.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/new...-Does-Jigsaw-Killer-Impression-in-Arkham-City

According to Joystiq, Edward Nigma is still going to be challenging players with devious puzzles, but things will take a definite Jigsaw Killer turn: Failing to solve the puzzles results in the deaths of innocent Gotham City citizens.
While I think this is a great idea and will certainly lead to some fun and interesting moments, the idea of Riddler being like Jigsaw feels a little out of character. Riddler's always been more of a heist kinda guy. Making loads of money via clever robberies or extortion.

At the same time, though, he's likely pissed at Batman solving all his riddles in Arkham Asylum. So, given that context, it kinda makes sense.

#17

Gusto

The Riddler as a sociopath who uses the lives of other people as tools to manipulate and torment the Batman for his failures feels pretty spot-on to me.

@Li3n

The Riddler The Joker as a sociopath who uses the lives of other people as tools to manipulate and torment the Batman for his failures feels pretty spot-on to me.
See the problem now?

It would be better if it would go something like "solve this riddle so you can find out how to stop some other criminals from doing something that will result in dead people" or something...

#19

Ravenpoe

Ravenpoe

It sounds like they're just continuing the version of the riddler that was introduced in the first game, someone driven to murderous madness by arkham. Listen to his recordings in the game, it's a very different riddler than we're used to.

#20

Chibibar

from DCUO
Riddler in DCUO retired and actually become a detective. There is a mission on Hero side where he left clues about T.O. Morrow's plan with Joker

He's like that in the comics now too (last i heard).

I really need to get playing that game for real already...

OK, after the last Steam sale I caved in and got the GOTY version of Arkham Asylum.

...damn this game is more awesome than I thought it would be. The combat, the stealth, the sheer number of collectibles, everything. Can't wait for the sequel.

While I found the Scarecrow mindfucks to be a tad silly, the third one really suprised me. I REALLY thought the game had glitched out until they showed the warped opening cinematic.

Tell me about it:
I got really freaked out because that's exactly what happened last time i had PC trouble (and the VC isn't made any more and it took forever to get it replaced under warranty) and Shift-Tab'ed then Alt-Tab'ed and missed part of the cinematic...

Also, noticed how his "monocle" isn't a monocle?

It's been revealed that Catwoman gameplay will unlock via a code, so that used copies will have to buy a pass to play as her.

As a PC gamer I say, "Meh, I'm waiting for the inevitable GOTY anyway."

No, what's especially bullshit is that Gamestop is being issued free codes to give out to people who buy it used. So this is really only going to hurt the small game trade places and eBay, not the single biggest source of used game sales.

Well, Warner Bros. Interactive still says it's releasing on the 18th, as well as the Arkham City game website. I did notice that gameinformers review of it says it's not being released until Nov. 1st. So, maybe it did get changed and I'm just out of the loop that much .

The general consensus seems to be that it's not as good as the original, but that it's pretty damn close. It looks to be averaging in the mid 90's.

#47

Frank

Frankie Williamson

Yeah, most of them call it the best single player experience this year or very close to it.

Reviewers have probably entirely forgotten that Portal 2 came out this year.

#49

Maybe they consider best single player experiences to last longer than one night.

Still, Skyrim.

That is all.

Bethesda usually wins Game of the Year whenever it releases an Elder Scrolls game, and there hasn't been a lot of competition outside of Portal 2.

#52

The reviews I have read have liked it more than the original. They said the combat was tighter, and the more open world gave a better experience - less linear. Reviews aside, I still can't wait! I think I will like it more then the first.

I totally agree bhamv3!!! =^^=

As for another character... Superman games ALWAYS suck. He's just too strong to be fun in a game.

There's never been a GREAT one (and certainly a lot of bad ones), but I kinda liked Shadow of Apokalips. Plus, I had a very, VERY long post once about some ideas for a Superman game. Truth be told, I think it would work really well.

No, I know some guys and got a copy before street date. I'd say the main story is at least ten hours, and that's all I did so far. But there are still tons of side missions to do...

- Rescuing Hostages from the Riddler (plus all his challenges and trophies)
- Tracking down Titan containers for Bane.
- AR Training (which gives you upgraded gadgets, like the Grapnel Boost)
- All of the Robin and Catwoman stuff.
- Rescuing political prisoners.
- All the challenge maps.

It's gotta be at least 25-30 hours of stuff with all that included.

Hmm... apparently they left some hints for the sequel in the game again, though they are much simpler to find this time around. I won't say WHERE they are, but I will say that it's somewhere you have to go to at least once in the game and that you don't need to do anything special to find them except looking at them.

Sorry to necro the thread but...I got this for Christmas and...

Oh my God, you guys! This game is fucking awesome. I've already gotten all the side quests and Riddler trophies (aside from a couple of physical challenges), all the Catwoman stuff, and now starting to work on the challenge maps. I really suck at the combat, honestly. I have a hard time keeping a good combo going, or especially avoiding getting hit to get that bonus at the end of each round.

Still, I've been playing this game obsessively since Christmas day. It. Fucking. Rocks.

It's tied with skyrim for single player game of the year for me. It's awesome, and the Batman mythos is treated with such respect.

I'll admit it, though, I HATED the ending. It felt far to abrupt, although

The clayface inclusion was freaking brilliant. However, I don't understand why the Joker didn't just take the cure the entire time he had it, rather than keeping up the charade. It was already my understanding that there was enough cure for both him and Batman and he had the vial for almost half the game.
That being said, it was a fitting end for this being Mark Hamil's last turn as the Joker.
The inclusion of the Mad Hatter was awesome, I think he's one of the most underrated Batman villains and to have him voiced by Peter McNicol was just awesome.

I'm just starting on finishing up the sidequests. Does anyone know how to trigger the second part of the "stalker" sidequest?

You just got to find him. He's usually standing on something high and unarmed so when you spot someone really high, alone and not wielding a sniper rifle, it'll be him.

Peter McNicol voicing who he did was pretty awesome but man, the voice actor for Ra's still bothers me. That's the best they could do? I still think of David Warner doing his voice thanks to the old Batman cartoon. Every time Warner called Batman detective, it just sounded right.

Just finished the game myself, really awesome game, loves the side missions and the main storyline had me hooked. One correction though in Bowielee's spoiler.

The clayface inclusion was freaking brilliant. However, I don't understand why the Joker didn't just take the cure the entire time he had it, rather than keeping up the charade. He didn't have the vial though. After you get the cure to work with Mr. Freeze, and it is stolen by Harley Quinn, she is intercepted by Talia, who steals it from her. When you find Harley tied up not far from the room with Clayface Joker, you are supposed to assume Joker tied her up as one of his little games he plays with her, but in truth it was Talia that got her right before she reached the real Joker in whatever hiding place he was staying. Clayface Joker, probably unaware that Harley was intercepted and working to keep up the charade, decides to go with Talia while the real Joker continued to wait for Harley, only for her to never show up, thus causing Joker to assume Batman had got to her first and stolen the cure. He then informs Clayface Joker, and the two decide to instead use Talia for leverage to trap Batman and regain the cure, unaware that she had it the whole time.

As for why Joker had Clayface start the charade of him being healthy before he himself gained the cure, it is likely his "troops" may have started defecting from him if they knew the extent of his illness by that point, so he had Clayface imitate a healthy appearance so that morale would be higher for the breakout he was planning. So in the end, Joker never had the cure, he was close to getting it, but it never got into his hands.
