I think I'd be startled seeing a girl in a place where she should not be. But I don't think I'd run and scream.

Oh cmon, she appeared and disappeared, was deathly pale and would scream before disappearing.

No, I'm going with the startled thing. If she had touched people, I probably would have screamed, but as is in the video, just startled.

Those are some fantastic pranks. I like that that last lady screams and runs at the girl and people have to come out to protect her!

Regarding the elevator one I am surprised no one attacked the girl with how freaked out they were.

The creepy little pale girl has become pretty iconic in horror movies. So I'm not sure how I'd react. I doubt I'd scream like a little girl, but I'd be freaked out.

I'd like to see outtakes of people that didn't freak out & see how they reacted.

That's a good point, these shows never show you the ones who don't react "properly," those stay on the cutting room floor.

It's not a matter of it being a creepy little girl bit from scary movies, it's the point that someone is suddenly there, who clearly wasn't then isn't again. That alone is startling whether you're -stone cold- or not.

Yeah, what the hell was with that? Who reacts that way? Stupid asses, that's who.

As for the elevator, I'm not claiming to be bad ass or stone cold or whatever, but I would've been more affected by the lights going out than the girl suddenly being there. My dad taught me to be paranoid about everything, so when faced with weird shit, my first instinct is that someone's trying to pull one over on me. (So far there have been no ghosts.) The kid screaming is another story--that would startle me. But if she then disappeared, it'd be back to "oh, it's someone doing this" and I'd start laughing like I do in every haunted house.

I'm no fun :(.

GasBandit

Even without little screaming dead girls, elevators that stop dead and start to flicker into darkness is enough to unsettle anybody, I don't care who ya are. You start thinking "boy I hope those emergency brakes are well-maintained."

#21

but what blows the whole video out of the water is, that there is no elevator.

I found the video. GasBandit has a point. The stopped elevator would freak me out more than the little girl.

They're full of it. Screaming startles people even if they see you first and there's nothing odd about you and you're totally at ease. I know. Sometimes I've done it to my coworkers. We'll just be having an ordinary conversation and then suddenly I'll bellow "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!" at them. They jump. Of course, it only works once, maybe twice, per person.

Also, it has to be said that those in central and south america have a TOTALLY different view on ghosts and the dead from those of us in North America and (most of) Europe.

I think it's just the continued fear that I'm sceptical of. I would definitely jump back or gasp, but I don't think I'd stay in the corner or scream, I suppose. The fight/flight thing is certainly going to kick in though, and it's hard to know what you'll do. Easy to say I'd start looking for the rational explanation for her appearance when I'm not currently under the adrenaline rush of the initial startle. But I do think, or like to think, that I would be able to reject the idea that I was being haunted or having a supernatural experience pretty quickly.

#27

Azurephoenix

I'll admit I would definitely be creeped the hell out and would probably flinch at the scream. The honest truth is none of us really know how we would react unless we were in the situation.

Except for all the hardcore badasses ;).

Re: tsunami, once the water started rushing in from behind, I think I'd have tried to go around the cars in front... but if I didn't think of that in time, I, too, would have basically sat in the car thinking "Well, the car seems to be floating, so I'd rather not open the door unless I absolutely have to... and I'm pretty much at a loss for what else to do other than call 911."

I do not have any kind of recollection of that and since I can't see my history that far back I'm just going to say that if I ever came across like that, it was never intended to be badass, if anything it was meant to be humorous. My apologies for giving off that kind of vibe at any point and time. Again I don't remember ever doing something like that because it's not remotely in my nature.

Maybe people are afraid of or react differently to different stimuli. You're a jumpy type, so you react to sudden loud noises. For me, a slowly worsening situation is a nightmare, like those rising water levels. I don't startle easily, as my siblings discovered when they used to sneak up on me. Maybe I got numb after years where evenings of peaceful silence were suddenly broken by my mom bursting into my room screaming at the top of her lungs. I can only guess that that type of thing would have an effect.

Aren't parents grand?

Also, it has to be said that those in central and south america have a TOTALLY different view on ghosts and the dead from those of us in North America and (most of) Europe.
Okay, that might explain why that one woman charged the girl in the hall even though she was just standing there, not screaming or anything, but I don't understand why. Anyone care to explain?

For the elevator, as soon as the lights flickered I would be looking at what firm was responsible for it's maintenance. When the lights went out and no emergency lights came on, I would be angry with the maintenance firm. When the little girl first appeared I would still be angry, so most likely I would react in anger.

Only read half of the first page, but I bust out laughing the first time she screamed at the woman. That was brilliant.

That being said, no idea how I'd react. The elevator would put me at ease, the girl would have made me go "Oh god." and the scream would have startled the shit out of me. Not the literal shit, though.

I'm not superstitious and generally don't freak out, even when people try to startle me from behind, I barely react, but yes, this is well done and would make me go o_____________o

This actually reminds me of an old campfire story I once heard...

In the olden times it was customary for the newly dead to be moved from their house to the sauna for the night before the burial, with someone to watch over the corpse for the night. In one village, one of the old folks had died, and his corpse was carried to the sauna, and the local tailor - a small, bespectacled mouse of a man - was asked to watch over him for the night. Some of the young men of the village decided to play a prank upon the tailor, and before the night fell they switched the old man's shrouded corpse for a volunteer who wrapped himself in similar shrouds and waited.

In time, the tailor showed up and sat down in the corner next to the firewood. He picked up some of his work, a needle and thread, and started working. The young man in the funeral shrouds waited, trying his best to stay completely still and silent as time dragged on. The only light in the sauna was the flickering light of the candle, the only sound the tailor's work as he worked. In the dead of the night, when all else was quiet and the hour of midnight approached, the young man decided it was time. Slowly he began to get up, moaning and reaching up from the casket as he sat up, thinking to scare the tailor out of his wits.

But the mousy little tailor looked up, picked up a heavy piece of firewood and hit the young man hard on the head. "The dead aren't supposed to peek!" the tailor yelled as the young man, still covered in shrouds from head to toe, fell back into the casket.

The next morning, the young men found the tailor still working in the sauna - and their friend, lying dead in the casket, his skull cracked.

Not to be all internet badass and shit, but the fetal position screaming is just bizarre in that second one.

I feel like the whole thing has got to be fake, because I can't imagine the second one being even remotely scary, just startling in that first few seconds.

At least the first one did the whole, lights flickering on a off and creepy girl appearing out of nowhere thing.
