We're freaking out over here! It is so exciting to share this news with you!

You can now Download the Black Mesa Soundtrack, courtesy of our very own Joel Nielsen, at the very generous price of whatever you want! Enjoy and share!
In the near future you'll see our Website, Wiki and Forums all taken down temporarily for renovations.
On September 14th you will see the first release of Black Mesa! This will include our re-envisioning of Half-Life all the way up to Lambda Core. We believe this is a great way to provide a complete-feeling 8-10 hour experience with a solid ending, make our fans happy and help us make the best overall game possible.

We are still working hard on Xen and BMDM, but instead of making you wait we are giving you Black Mesa as soon as it's ready! We're doing our best to help bring the immense vision of this project into reality, and we are very excited for what the future brings!

High-Fives Yo,
Carlos Montero - Project Leader
So, uh, yeah, to say that I'm excited would be a huge understatement.

That said, while I'll be playing the hell out of this, I'm a little confused and disappointed that this won't be the full game yet. I don't understand why they didn't just wait to finish those last two chapters before releasing the game.

Someone asked if they'll have to wait another 8 years for the Xen chapter. A response from one of the developers said: No. Development on xen is already underway and we hope to have it finished up in a reasonable timeframe. Xen is going to basically be a complete game in its own right, it's not going to be just an epilogue to the game; more of a whole new chapter. It'll be pretty well expanded.

The "reasonable timeframe" quote bugs me given that it's been 8 years of waiting as it is.

Still, the fact that this vaporware is finally coming out is astounding. How long do you think it'll take before Valve swoops in and says, "Let's put this badboy on Steam!" They've already mentioned their support for the project in the past.

Call me cynical, but right now I'm doing everything to suppress my excitement at this news. I'll believe it's actually released when I'm playing it with my own two hands. I still remember a certain trailer that said "2009" at the end of it. I'm sure these guys will do everything they can to make that release date, but their track record (or lack of one) speaks for itself.

Also, missing the Xen chapter? That's disappointing. I am disappointed in this news.

...

Oh who am I kidding. SQUEEEEEEEEEE I WANNA PLAY THIS RIGHT NOW!!!!

Given that they wanted to be able to release this years ago, I don't think 8 years falls under a reasonable timeframe for them either.

Anyway, this is sweet. Finally!

Trying to include Valve time seems a bit of an unnecessary touch, but I am happily awaiting this.

I'm pretty sure Valve said a long time ago that they would distribute this on Steam because they've been involved in the project themselves. Besides, they have that whole Steam Workshop thing now. It would be simple to add it in.

Bwahahaha, I can pinpoint the EXACT MOMENT I fell in love with this mod:

"Barney seems to be pretty scarce around here. His bar tab must've caught up with him."

Downloaded and ready to be installed.... though I don't think I'll be able to play it due to my NVIDIA issues.

Downloaded it, but no time to play yet. Those guilds don't war themselves. And those wars don't guild themselves.

Black Mesa news:

http://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?p=564005

1. A paid version of Black Mesa is going on sale on Steam. The paid version will have features not available in the free version, and apparently will enjoy more developer support.

2. Xen is still a long way from completion.

Depending on how much it costs, I might just buy it to show my support for these guys.

EDIT: Also, apparently they're porting it to a new engine? Huh, new generation Source engine maybe?

I wonder if Steam Cloud saves are going to be something that's limited to the paid version.

It's been a year (to say nothing of the REST of the development time) and they STILL haven't finished the Xen chapters? And now they expect us to pay for an unfinished product?

Someone wake me when it's all done.

Yep, no interest here. Yet.

It took them what... 5 years to get the first part done? I'm not surprised it's taken them this long.

I've never replayed the Xen portion of Half-Life, so I don't really see a problem with paying for a remake of the portion of the game I'm nostalgic about. If they were to add on a Xen portion that's actually good, it would be a nice bonus, but unnecessary.

What's Xen? Oh that part of Half-Life 1 that sucks.
