BREAKING NEWS ALERT!!! Conan is BACK!

#1

Dave

Dave

From CNN:

Conan O’Brien will host a new late-night talk show on TBS, the cable TV network says.

#2

Shakey

Shakey

Ha! He's bumping Lopez Tonight to midnight.

#3

Charlie Don't Surf

The Lovely Boehner

This is the worst possible move he could have made. At least he'll get a decent lead-in from House of Payne. TBS is such a perfect fit.

#4

Dave

Dave

Negative Nancy.

This is a genius move by TBS. There will be SO much hype surrounding this that their ratings will go WAY up for a time. Sure, they may drop again, but Conan is pretty strong in the primary demographics and he has a slew of rabid fans who will follow him. But the first few weeks when he face-pounds Leno it'll be sweet, sweet nectar.

#5

Charlie Don't Surf

The Lovely Boehner

If you think Conan is going to get better ratings than Leno over even the first 3-months of live head to head, you're sorely mistaken.

#6

Jay

Jay

Yeah and you thought Mystic River was a good movie.

I'll be firmly in Dave's camp. WOOOOOO!!! Coooonaaaannn!!

#7

Chad Sexington

Garbledina

I hate TBS. But I guess I'm glad Conan got a new show. We'll see how it goes in the fall I guess.

#8

Dave

Dave

Yeah and you thought Mystic River was a good movie.

I'll be firmly in Dave's camp.
I don't know whether to believe you or not. You are no longer Serious, Jay.

#9

Jay

Jay

I'm 100% less serious now... at least for another 87 days. Then who knows?

#10

Charlie Don't Surf

The Lovely Boehner

This isn't really a matter of opinion. Conan going to TBS is a bad fit just objectively. The show might still be good, but the network and him don't fit. And his fans never watch TBS, and the people that watch House of Payne and Lopez Tonight REALLY aren't gonna watch Conan past the first episode.

#11

MindDetective

MindDetective

I'm with the Boner. It seems like a dead-end move for Conan (but a decent get for TBS).

#12

Dave

Dave

HoP is not the best lead in for CoCo, I will admit. But TBS WILL get a bump in ratings from this.

My only real worry are those people who still have network access but not cable.

#13

Charlie Don't Surf

The Lovely Boehner

And Team CoCo is gonna forget he exists on TBS so fast it'll make your head spin.

#14

Dave

Dave

NEVER!!!

I agree with these guys, TBS seems like a really odd fit.

CONAN HEADED TO TBS!

HOLY SHIT! I saw it first on his twitter account but it seemed sort of like a joke....

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/top/all/6955092.html

TBS!?!

What kind of ratings can TBS get!?

#17

Matt²

CONAN HEADED TO TBS!

didn't MONK start on TBS?

#18

Dave

Dave

CONAN HEADED TO TBS!

I'll merge this with the thread I started a couple hours ago on the subject....

The Lovely Boehner

CONAN HEADED TO TBS!

didn't MONK start on TBS?
What. no.

#20

Calleja

Calleja

Oh shit, I had missed the thread.

I'm worried Conan has accepted a deal that's basically going out to pasture to die... Will the internet "scene" even release a talk show that's on TBS? :(

#21

Charlie Don't Surf

The Lovely Boehner

Maybe until them, like the rest of America, collectively forget who Conan O'Brien is.

#22

Matt²

pretty much this. I'm not getting cable just to watch Conan.

Don't talk like that, man, it makes my heart ache :(

See, I don't have cable. What network was that?

#25

Calleja

Calleja

Monk is on USA, the network of Psych and Burn Notice.

#26

ahh...umm. ok then.. what shows are ON Tbs that are noteworthy? (Another nail in the coffin?)

#27

The Lovely Boehner

ahh...umm. ok then.. what shows are ON Tbs that are noteworthy? (Another nail in the coffin?)
there are 3 wildly successful sitcoms by Tyler Perry and a late night talk show starring George Lopez

#28

Steven Soderburgin

lol, can't wait for this thread to be bumped for about a few days after Conan's new show premiere, and then never be bumped again.

#29

Dave

Dave

I'm renaming you & Charlie as Doug & Wendy Whiner.

For Christmas I think I'm getting you guys the Transformers box set.

#30

Calleja

Calleja

Oh man, I miss Conan every day, but this TBS business has made me more nervous than excited. And its in part thanks to Doug and Wendy Whiner over there. :(

#31

Charlie Don't Surf

The Lovely Boehner

Look, I'd love for the new show to be entertaining and funny, but I don't think that's gonna make it not be a failure.

And of course there's no way TBS is gonna cancel it so I think you're safe, Mex

#32

Jay

Jay

Well, Leno's ratings have dropped from last year and are still dropping. Experts predict that by this Christmas he’ll be fighting to get 4.0… this was even before Conan announced his return. I’m willing to give TBS a chance and honestly, Cable is where it’s at! I don’t care about what other people think, I’ll be watching Mondays to Thursdays, every week.

I hope he does well and I hope in 2-3 years that his old network can truly go suck a dick.

#33

Calleja

Calleja

...h'e snot doing shows on Friday!?! Where did you see this? Oh man, this gets worse and worse :(

Stop being emo Hesus.

#36

Calleja

but... Conan! :(

#37

Jay

Jay

He'll be back and you'll still enjoy seeing his pasty white ass on the tube.

Caliateeeeee.

#38

Calleja

Calleja

But what if his show really DOES bomb? See, I depend on the kindness of strangers on the internet to watch talk shows like Conan's. If the show isn't popular enough, it doesn't even get released online. I have no way of getting TBS down here :(

#39

Matt²

So are we going to see George Lopez get all pissed off now, because he's being pushed back one hour by Conan?

You know, the same way Conan was pushed off by Leno.

#40

Calleja

Calleja

Tee hee, Lopez was one of the few that actually attacked Conan on the whole thing and made fun of him getting bumped... karmaaaaa!

#41

CynicismKills

CynicismKills

If you actually read the articles about this, Lopez called Conan himself saying he would be cool moving back to let Conan have his slot. Looking at the posts on the I'm With CoCo Facebook page, though, this isn't going to be a good move. Most people are saying they don't have cable/TBS. Also from what else I've read, they're planning Office/Family Guy to be the lead-in shows for him, and he's going to be up against Colbert/Daily Show more than anything else (and he's going to lose against those, I'm sure).

#42

Calleja

Calleja

Oh... good for George, then.

#43

MindDetective

Lopez is a pretty nice guy, it seems to me. He also may see a bump in ratings with Conan opening for him, so to speak.

#44

Frank

Frankie Williamson

I don't even get God damn TBS anymore. I used to, then it became Peachtree TV for whatever fucking reason. God damn it.

It doesn't start until November. Until then, contact your local cable company and let them know you want your Conan!

#46

Jay

Jay

I find it funny with the hundreds of satellite channels, people don't have something as awesome as TBS. Silly nooblets, get proper TEEEEVEEES.

---------- Post added at 05:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:42 PM ----------

And Fox would only have canceled his show after the first season.

*rimshot*

#47

Steven Soderburgin

Ah, TBS. So awesome. Where else will I get 3 hours of Family Guy reruns?

#48

You can also get 3 hours of new tyler perry programming that churns out like 80 episodes a season

Why, Conan, WHYYYy-YY!?

Alternate answer: Adult Swim.

#51

Steven Soderburgin

lol but seriously folks, I'd be willing to be that this had a lot more to do with Conan wanting more freedom than any of the networks would be willing to offer combined with the fact that TBS was probably thrilled at the prospect of giving Conan a show, rather than having to put up with networks saying "Well, we'll see if we can work something out"

#52

Calleja

Calleja

I hope they don't call it "The Conan O'Brien Show", though.

#53

Espy

I hope they don't call it "The Conan O'Brien Show", though.
I hope they call it "El Conando O'Briendado Mostrar"

Or alternatively: "Tyler Perry presents: White George Lopez"

#54

Steven Soderburgin

I hope they don't call it "The Conan O'Brien Show", though.
I hope they call it "Homicide: Life on the Street: The Squeakquel"

#55

The Lovely Boehner

I hope they call it "The Wirey Tall Guy"

Eh, other than all the specialty channels I get (movie channels, sports, all the Discovery and National Geographics) I don't have the most comprehensive satellite package and I honestly don't watch enough TV to warrant what I already have.

#58

crono1224

TBS really is a useless channel to me, it doesn't really seem to have any good original shows, it's best shows (i am being subjective) come from NBC, FOX and maybe ABC.

This seems like a quickly done shit move, that will lose his bounce back from not being on TV. Is this really the best place for a comeback show?

But where could be realistically go? FOX only does two hours a night and would need to convince affiliates to give up an hour they control and ABC, CBS, and NBC (durr) are all taken in late night. As far as the "best" cable channels go, Comedy Central is taken and USA is owned by NBC so....TBS. Yeah.

I will watch this show, either live or Tivoed. Conan is trying to make the bast of a craptacular situation and having a show on TBS is better than no show at all no matter how you look at it.

alternate alternate answer : CW ... ok maybe not THREE hours, but they are playing it now too.

North_Ranger

If SubTV or one of the other TV channels that aren't full of AIDS and shit here in Finland pick this show up, I shall watch it.

Also, no, the TV channel I mentioned is neither broadcasted from a submarine, broadacasting daily fights of Subway vs. Quiznos, nor hosted by a person dressed in a gimp suit.

#62

Dave

Dave

It turns out one of the big reasons was Fox had contractual obligations and Conan would have been on at different times on different days in different time zones and markets. Had he gone to Fox he would have been automatically done because nobody would have been able to follow his schedule.

On TBS he gets the 10 pm time slot regardless of area or market.

#63

Calleja

You mean 11pm

10 central. We don't care about anything else.

Although let's be fair, a handful of the biggest FOX markets get higher ratings than TBS.

Yeah so apparently this won't air in Canada. Lame, I won't even be able to see if I enjoy the new show. Well I guess there's always the questionably legal route.

This seems like a temporary move for Conan. I'm sure he'll hang out on TBS until one of the major networks opens up a spot for him. At least, I hope so.

Oh, and son-of-a-bitch! All the damn tickets for Conan's live show in Tulsa are gone!!! Damn it. Damn it. Damn it.
