I'll add Patrick McManus at a book signing. - my favorite humorist.

Ran into James Carville in New Orleans. He has a really hot daughter. Or it could have been his date.

Rubicon

in terms of nerd fame i've met;

Lou Ferigano
Mark Waid
James O'Barr
Robert Kirkman
Jackson Guice

and a bunch of others I can't remember at this early hour of the morning.

Oh and I did meet Kurtz one year at a convention, but I wouldnt classify him as a celeb

I've met, in no particular order:
Chase Masterson (Leeta the dabo girl on DS9)
Robert Trebor (Salmonius on Hercules/Xena)
Alexandra Tydings (Aphrodite on Hercules/Xena)
Eric Estrada (Ponch on CHIPS)
Gigi Edgley (Chiana on Farscape)
Claudia Black (Aeryn Sun on Farscape)
Ellen Muth (George Lass on Dead Like Me)
Eliza James (violinist for Burt Bacharach and girlfriend of Limp Bizkit's drummer, John Otto)
the band members of GWAR
Steve Jackson (Steve Jackson Games)
Walter Koenig (Pavel Checkov on Star Trek, Bester on Bablyon 5)
Jason Carter (Marcus on Babylon 5)
Richard Biggs (Dr. Franklen, Babylon 5)
---I played tinwhistle with Jason and Richard at Dragon*Con the year they were there, while they were jamming at the late-night drum circle. Was hecka fun. RIP Richard.
Warren Buffet (Famous investor/businessman)
Alan Bean (Astronaut. I used to work security where he lives in Houston, a long time ago)
Dominique Sachse (Channel 2 News Anchor in Houston. Lived in the same neighborhood that Alan Bean did)
---Mr. Bean was hecka nice..just kind of a 'regular ol' guy' and would talk with me all the time. My only communication with Dominique, on the other hand, was her getting pissed because I didn't open the security gate for her fast enough because I was helping one of our elderly residents with her mail. Not a good first impression.
Lived down the street from, and was friends with Alan Price, guitarist for Dead Horse (middling successful band, sold about a million records and got radio play back in the day)
Kurtz and Straub, naturally.
Pete Abrams (Sluggy Freelance webcomic)
Anne MccAffrey (Dragonriders of Pern, among other books)

That's all I can think of at the moment. When I go to Dragon*Con, I get to hang out in the green room, but perhaps not surprisingly, I've never met a celeb there. On a slightly creepy note, someone once asked me for my autograph at Dragon*Con because they recognized me from my website (which does, admittedly, get 2 million hits a year now), but I really don't consider myself a celebrity in any shape or fashion. So I felt kind of weird about it. But I *have* gotten used to being recognized by every tinwhistle and flute maker at every festival I go to. ;)

Got an autograph from Alan Tudyk.

I asked him "So... uh.. you're the guy that played Spike, right?"

He said, [spoiler:3ovjiwvz]"No, I was the guy who got spiked."[/spoiler:3ovjiwvz]

:rimshot: :D

oh, also met alan moore.

it happened to be at the same time as a chanology protest against scientology was around the corner, so i had the opportunity to see dozens of geeks wearing guy fawkes masks awkwardly queing up for signings.

I'm not counting the 1-minute handshake & photo you can get at any convention, otherwise (like many others) the list'd get too long. :p

Ate dinner with author Timothy Zahn.
Had beers and talked baseball with Kat from BSG, Luciana Carro.
Compared heights and chatted with Ray Park.
Sang karaoke with football player Braylon Edwards (he prefers Elvis songs).
Had beers with wrestler Rob Van Dam and Bud Bundy himself, David Faustino.
Chatted for a long while with James Earl Jones.

But the topper, the king of them all, the event behind my av...

Drinking beers, talking about any-and-everything, and drinking more beers with Colonel Tigh, Michael Hogan. Greatest. Night/Early Morning. EVER.

For several years, the Origins gaming convention (in Columbus Ohio) used to have LARP events, where they would ask one of the celebrity guests to make an appearance in it, if it was based off one of their shows/movies. Some of them just made a token appearance, coming in and saying hello for 5 minutes and leaving. But a couple actually leapt right into it, getting into the role playing and interacting with all the players. Two awesome ones I was able to experience were:

Jeff Conaway from Taxi and Babylon 5 - A really funny guy, and excellent improvisational comedian. I got to talk to him as the security chief of Bablylon 5 briefly and shake his hand.

Bruce Campbell - In a Brisco County Jr LARP - he was just unbelievable. He never stopped cracking jokes, and keeping everything active. He sentenced me to hang and (literally) tossed me into the jail. Great stuff!

Other than that, Dave Arneson was one of my son's teachers at Full Sail for game design, so I met him a couple times.
Sat with authors Ed Greenwood and Michael Stackpole at a small fund raising dinner.
Hung out and chatted with Chuck Dixon at a local comic book shop many years ago.
My wife and I got to be extras in the filming of "Invincible" (playing crowd members in the stands) and Mark Wahlberg and Greg Kinnear were a few feet below us. they were both very friendly and went around to say hello to the extras (but the crush of people was pretty thick, so I didn't get to shake their hands myself).

I never met this Kurtz guy you speak of. :heythere:

That is fucking beautiful. I mean, sunset with a rainbow kinda shit right there.

Lots at conventions, but I won't really count most of those. Some of my favorites were Alan Tudyk, who I actually had something to say to because I had seen him perform in Spamalot on my honeymoon, and Peter David, who was impressed that I knew how to pronounce "apropos." I was irritated at myself for not bringing a script for PAD to look at, as he's open to that and I had him pretty much all to myself.

I met Jerry and Mike from Penny Arcade and hung out and played video games with them at a Gameworks. (They were in town for a talk at a college.) Tycho compared my hair to "spun gold." That was a blast. They signed a cardboard tube for me.

Way back (2000? 2001? I know it was before I met my wife), I ran into Keri Russell at a bar, the day after Christmas. Apparently her brother went to the same college as me, and she was there visiting. I was the only one among my friends (was just drunk enough) to talk to her. She already had a drink, so I can't say I bought her a drink, but we did chat for a little bit before the bar became crowded and she started to get swamped. She was friendly, though I completely blanked on her name at the time and might possibly have referred to her as "TV's Felicity."

I haven't met you. Not in real life. It doesn't count if it's not in real life.

We should arrange a Official Halforum Party sometime, where we get together and drink and maybe a few people punch each other.

It's a funny thing, as tempting as it was, I'd have preferred not to lose Halforum or have it run by someone a bit less "Mad Scientist".

Though of course, had I been under contract.... :ninja:

Do cons count? In that case I've met a few B-listers there. But nothing much.

I did have an email rapport for a while about art with Chris Hastings (of Dr. McNinja) for a while, but that's not all that fancy. You can hang out with famous comic artists on the web a lot. Gutterzombie for colorists. Penciljack sometimes has pencilers. Sketch Tavern has some "famous" animators. Etc.

Not a lot of celebrity sightings considering my location...
*Played some basketball with Frankie Muniz at Oakwood apartments.
*Had a conversation with Sly Stallone about how Quentin Tarantino stole the idea of "Grindhouse" from him.
*Took voice over lessons from Kat Cressida (voice of Dee Dee on Dexter's Lab)
*I see Brian Henson on occasion when I attend "Puppet Up" performances, but just as an audience member.

I've had other sightings at the hotel I work at.
I've checked in or assisted John Goodman, Gary Sinese, Penn and Teller, Kate Jackson *cough*BITCH!!!*cough*, John Amos, and Adam West who actually came to the front desk with a deactivated room key and said "I'm not sure why it's not working. I don't believe I had it next to my utility belt".

That's either incredibly awsome or infinately sad. I can't decide which.

Ex-gf worked at a major movie theatre in Chicago had met a ton of celebs.

Brother was quite the Metal concert gooer for a while, ended up as Slipknot's "weed provider" one time when they were down doing a show and their provider had fallen through, he ended up backstage, lighting up after the show. Brought back a CD full of autographs. :uhhuh:

I know Zen has a nice little list I'd like to see in detail.
 You'd really like to see the phone list I stole when I was working for director Alan J. Pakula. Had tons of interesting names on there and being too good of a girl I never did anything with it.

Not gonna bore you with the full list (especially since no one liked my picture with Tony Shalhoub ) but here are a few of my highlights.

My father was -- or is still -- friends with David Frost (as in Frost/Nixon) and since even as a little kid I knew who he was, I was always impressed that he would sit down and talk to me like an adult, and really listen, just like I was one of his interview subjects. Very fond memories of him.

I've hung out with the Redskins and been on the floor of FedEx Field right before a game. I mainly talked to Darrell Green, though, who is a total sweetheart.

Favorite authors I've met at signings: Margaret Atwood, John Irving, Tom Stoppard.

Working for Premiere my interviewees included Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie, before they got crazy famous. My very favorite in-person interview was Walter Matthau.

When I ran my fan site for the TV show American Gothic I somehow got lots of fun people to do phone interviews with me about it. Sam Raimi, Ted Raimi, Bruce Campbell, Shaun Cassidy, Nick Searcy, Jake Weber, Brenda Bakke, producer David Eick (later Battlestar Galactica), writer Stephen Gaghan (later Oscar winner for "Traffic"), composer Joseph LoDuca, and some of the directors. Still have them all on tape; recently got up the guts to listen to the Bruce Campbell one again.

Too many to mention from working for Pakula, but my favorite was Robert Culp. When I was interning, I called to invite him to the premiere of The Pelican Brief and he was a total Hollywood douchebag to me, unlike every single other person I called. About six months later, after I'd been hired there as a development associate, Alan came up to me and said "I have this script by a friend and I'd like you to let me know what you think."

It was by Robert Culp.

Not a matter of "not liking it" but a matter of we know you purposely blurred it to unrecognition to avoid us seeing you!

FALSE! I very much liked it.

Having met Darrell, I totally concur. I was a little kid at the time (like 7 or 8), but me and my mom and my sister asked him for his autograph, and he was so awesome about it. We asked him to sign our t-shirts, and I pointed out a specific place and said "sign right there!" and he laughed and said "Yes, ma'am!" (I guess it was the combination of it being a weird place... on the shoulder of the shirt, and also my little kid bossiness) My mom getting to meet him/talk to him was like, a dream come true. She's a diehard Redskin fan (a trait she passed on), and Darrell has always been her favorite player.

I was so freaking nervous. And he was wonderful. He wrote down his original, ridiculously long last name on a napkin for me and I wish I knew what happened to it.

Ha ha, no, the picture really is THAT BAD. It was taken with a mediocre camera phone inside a relatively dark movie theatre.

Aw, that's great! Yeah, he is a very genuine person, didn't get any hint of sports-star ego at all. And he's certainly entitled to some!

It was pretty hard for me to talk, I'll definitely admit that.

Oh, I forgot another good one -- Stephen Colbert looked down my blouse when I met him after a production of Wigfield.
