Okay...my excitement for this game just hit critical mass. I do not think there is any way I could get more excited for this game, after seeing that they not only included two of my favorite bands--Dark Tranquillity and In Flames--but chose not their most popular songs, but some of their best work. I'm particularly impressed by Goliaths Disarm Their Davids, since it was a b-side track that was only released on a compilation album.

Also, I'm really surprised (and VERY impressed) at the metal choice. It's got a lot of the old, and a lot of the (good) new. Totally can't wait for this game now.

Here's some links to a few of the songs on the soundtrack:

I started a one woman mosh pit upon seeing that setlist.

EPIC.

Rob Zombie - Superbeast

Ha ha ha, oh man, now I'm feeling nostalgic to the mid-late 90's when this song was guaranteed in pretty much every videogame or movie.

Mr Scary--Dokken's one really kick ass tune. Nice to see that they really put a lot of thought into it and gave the people what they want, a nice variety of excellent music from across all the years of metal. How bout ya send a letter to Harmonix, teach an old dog a new trick? Would have liked to see more Sabbath, though. Old people, we love the Sabbath. *Cue get off my lawn pic*

EPIC.
This is my first exposure to that band. They're pretty damn good*, and I don't even follow metal. Time to go expand my horizons again, it seems.

*Most metal bands make music like Michael Bay makes movies. These guys' talent is more like Ridley Scott or Christopher Nolan.

That actually might be one of the best sentiments describing metal I've ever heard, and it's one of the reasons it's so difficult for me to find metal I really like. Just springboarding off that music video you like (I personally don't like Dimmu Borgir, but I do like several aspects of their music), here's some recommendations:

Iron Maiden, of course. "The Trooper", "Hallowed Be Thy Name", "Fear Of The Dark", are good individual songs, and check out "Powerslave" for a good dose of metal. Other classics include (as I'm sure you're familiar with) Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Dio, etc.

Blind Guardian (Imaginations from the Other Side would probably be a good starting album for you) and Sonata Arctica. (These would be classified as Power Metal for the most part, and have more of the symphony/bit of orchestral feel to them)

Anterior is one of my favorite bands, with my two favorite tracks being "Human Hive" and "The Silent Divide". The entire album's worth a listen-through, though, especially the instrumental "Stir of Echoes" leading into "Scar City".

Dark Tranquillity (you'd probably like more of their latest work, "Fiction", due to more synth work). Their album "Haven" was really good, with my personal favorite being the track "At Loss for Words".

If you like Dark Tranquillity, some more Swedish death/melodic death metal to check out would be In Flames (in general, anything before their latest album; although Clayman, Colony, and Whoracle are my three favorite albums), Scar Symmetry (great band; The Illusionist is a good track), Soilwork (harder and more thrash-y), At the Gates (one of the "big three" of Swedish death), and The Haunted.

Shadows Fall: nothing to say about these guys, other than they're classic thrash superimposed on present tastes. Check out "Another Hero Lost" and "The Art of Balance (the song)" if you want something slower, or "The Mystery of One Spirit", "A Fire In Babylon", and (one of their hits) "What Drives the Weak" if you like speed.

Devildriver's a band that tends to be very hit or miss with people, but I personally love them. They don't do anything new or revolutionary, but they're amazing at getting a crowd worked up and have the songs to do it: "I Dreamed I Died" for a nu-metal feel, "Hold Back the Day" and "These Fighting Words" for speed, and "Teach Me To Whisper" for a sample of their latest work.

Dethklok, of course, especially if you like metalocalypse. "Go Into The Water" and "Bloodrocuted" are my faves. If you like them, I recently discovered a band, Obtenebris, that has a very close feel to Dethklok in terms of vocals (I think it might actually be the same guy), but I like the music a bit more.

Feel free to PM me if you want, I'm always up for meeting a new inductee to metal! :)

I'm going to throw in some Killswitch Engage for newer, melodic metal:

Love it.

Edited because the music video version sucks balls apparently.

Agreed with the Killswitch, and--off the same album--I'll throw in Rose of Sharyn:

Ha ha. Dethklok is almost entirely Brendan Small, he does Nathan Explosion, Skwisgar and Pickles. He also created the show and writes all the music. His old show was Home Movies. He's fucking awesome.

Yeah, you hear a lot of guest work in vocals or instruments, but 90% of Dethklok is just Small.

Metal's a weird thing for me, I used to be into the heavy stuff but lately I don't venture too far past Killswitch, 3 Inches of Blood and the younger metal bands like Greely Estates or Every Time I Die.

And yes, I realize the metal purists will be upset by me calling them metal. :heythere:
