Fuck yeah, Adventure Time! I've been waiting for this to be a show for forever.

Why is all the animation so awful?! Otherwise they look ok.
I guess because they were made for a lower budget by smaller teams. If you look through the Adventure Time blog, you'll see that the art and animation (As it is currently) is far superior to the pilot now that they have been picked up by CN and have a higher budget to work with.

The '90's American Animation Revival is over. All that is left looks like dreck.

Then you must remember some of the bigger cartoons had terrible animation too. Bevis and Butthead, Ren and Stimpy, Batman the Animated Series...

I liked them both, but somehow I feel like these are more like cartoons for the internet than cartoons for TV. of course, if Spongebob Sqarepants was some new project, I'd say the same about it...

Didn't want to get into a rant... but those worked because there where few and the animation fit the subject matter.

Now everything looks like that for no good reason.

And i'm not just talking bad from a technical pov (frankly i prefer the look of older Disney cartoons [Sleeping Beauty] to the newer, slicker looking ones [Alladin, Lion King, Hercules]), they just look like they weren't even trying.

Batman the Animated Series...
Huh?!

It does, but Timm was really breaking new ground with this stylized realism stuff. I really loved his early DCAU stuff. He captured the feel of the characters in the art itself by slightly breaking reality. I loved that, and I still do.

Look fine to me:

Of course i've been watching bits and pieces constantly over the years, so i didn't have any expectations built up.

Well, at least it isn't as bad art as 12 oz mouse.[/QUOTE]

There was nothing good about 12 Oz Mouse, though.

Anyway the major issue is a lot of cartoons are being made through Flash or After-Effects/Illustrator type programs as it's much MUCH cheaper than traditional cel animation. Sadly the lack of effort also shows. Also, Ren and Stimpy had fairly good animation, not to mention the close-up painting images from John K that so many Nicktoons have used/copied since.
