Core i what now?

I just use microsoft security essentials. That and not being stupid seem to be enough. I know this isn't your first rodeo.

If you want to go paid, nod32 has long been considered the best. I don't know if this has changed.

For free, go MSE + brains. For paid, NOD32 will drag your system down the least, but for overall efficacy, BitDefender comes out on top in the most tests. BitDefender also has a version (Game Safe) which claims to be lighter and not get in the way of gaming, but I have no idea how 'lean' it is compared to NOD32.

However, if someone comes out with an ATI 5xxx-series card for the Mac Pro, get that one.
Well, lookie there. Apple not only released an insane, 12-core version of the Mac Pro*, but they also announced a Radeon 5870 upgrade for it as well. Odds are pretty good that it will work in your 'older' Nehalem Mac Pro as well, we will find out in August.

*Available with up to 4 512GB SSD, too (probably at an additional $2k each, too)

A computer with 2 TB of SSD? I expect SSD to completely replace standard HDs in a couple more years, really I do, but...Yikes. I'm going to go cry over there in a corner now, playing games on my €700 laptop and thinking it looked fine :-( [to be fair, my laptop still meets the recommended requirements for Starcraft II except for the processor, which no normal production laptop did at the time i bought it, so it's still an ok machine :p]

Honestly, I'm a gamer and I update my computer far too often, but who in their right mind has $10,000 to blow on a gaming machine?!

I think I might order one, just to see. Those things are a bit of a pain to move around but it is a dodecacore...

That's pretty specialized, all right. Might want to franchise a line of soft-serve Habitrail dispensers.

If you really want to just say the hell with it, you could just plunk down $15K for the Maximum PC 2010 Dream Machine:

CPU: Two Intel Xeon X5680s
RAM: 24GB Corsair Dominator DDR3/1600
Motherboard: EVGA Classified SR-2
GPU: Three EVGA GTX 480 SuperClocked
PSU: Corsair AX1200
SSD: Two OCZ Vertex 2 200GB
HD: Two WD 2TB Caviar Black
Optical: Plextor B940SA
Sound: Auzentech X-Fi Forte
Case: Mountain Mods U2-UFO
Cooling: Danger Den Custom Liquid
Bezels: MNPC Tech
Keyboard: Microsoft X6
Mouse: Mad Catz R.A.T. 7
Fan Bay: NZXT Sentry LX
Monitor: Three HP ZR30w
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate

Any single part costs as much as, if not more, than the full notebook I just bought for myself. >_<

And if you want to compare your current rig (whatever it might be) to something with about as much graphics muscle as can currently be squeezed into a single computer, check out the reviews of this system. Quad 5870 CF v. 3-way SLI GTX 480s, all on full-speed PCIe x16 slots. It's pretty impressive. Probably hell on your cooling bill, too.
