She had a good run, and we were better for having been able to experience her.

Confession: When I saw Hook, Maggie Smith's old makeup was so good that I didn't realize it was old makeup (note: in the flashback scenes with Peter visiting Wendy, actual Maggie Smith is in that scene and I still didn't realize it). The makeup was so good that when she was actually 30 years older she looked about the same as she was madeup in that movie.
But RIP. I'll watch Hook with the youngin tonight out of respect.

She was great in so many varied roles. I wasn't a huge fan of Downton Abbey but I loved her character.
Dumbledore(s), Snape, Hagrid, McGonagall... hope Mad Eye and Sirius Black are well.

This has been a terrible day for Mr. Z. He loves Maggie Smith. LOVES her. She's been on his radar since Sister Act, and he'd watch (almost) anything with her in it. I can't explain the obsession, it's just a thing that is.
Breaking the news to him didn't go well. I think I ruined his whole day. She was such a talented actress, so it's a loss for the stage and screen, for sure.

And he got in trouble for doing that.

She had a amazing career that crossed generations of fans. I always think of her in Murder By Death opposite David Niven and Peter Sellers among others.

I've always known her. I really wish I knew what for. I was to young for Clash of the Titans. But I was too old for Potter.
I knew her best from The Secret Garden before the Harry Potter films came out. In my childhood mind I may not have realized that Wendy in Hook was the same actress.
