Dante's Inferno

After first hearing that EA would be making a game based on a famous midieval piece of literature I was a bit puzzled and well all honestly flabbergasted. I mean how could they make a piece of literature into a video game.

But after following it since its conception and EA taking a few creative liberties as well which I can live with I can hosetly say that I'm looking forward to this one as well as God of War 3 next year for my PS3.

I've been reading some of the forum sections too and it seems a lot of the fan boyism is pretty high with most ps3 users looking foward to it while the 360 users are anxious to get it.

Mostly the ps3 users are calling it a gow ripp off because I feel they're jealous that the xbox should be getting a gow clone at all. Seems a little unjustified in my opinion.

Its going to be an interesting game to play through with something based on a piece of literature.

What's next Moby Dick, Hamlet, Charge of the Light Brigade?

The 360 has had its fair share of shitty God of War clones, none of them even getting close to scratching the greatness of the original. I doubt this will, either. The reason the God of War games are awesome is because of the TLC that the devs put in. The game shines because of it.

Dante's inferno, on the other hand, has been surrounded in this bizzare perversion of hype since I've heard of it, which leads me to believe that the actual game/gameplay will be a giant turd. FROM HELL.

They should have used another name for the hero then Dante... and just have him tell his story to Alighieri at the end or something.

But the game looks positively perverted: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/lust-gameplay-dantes-inferno/57873
That's the Lust stage. What did you expect? Be interesting to see what they do for Sloth and Envy, though. Preferably, involving 100% less troops deployed via vomiting nipple-mouths.

Besides, in what other game does your character run the risk of being stabbed to death by prehensile stinger-penises?

Coming out of giant vaginas.... yeah, that was pretty f-d up, but yeah, it's supposed to be hell.

I don't really have all that much desire to play this game, as was stated prevously, it's been far to overhyped from the word go.

Also, PS3 users are calling it a GoW rip off because it IS a GoW ripoff. Does that make it a bad game? Not in the least, but to say that it isn't a GoW ripoff is simply untrue.

That was praise actually... and while Lust was most disturbing (to us prudes anyhow) the others where not far behind either.

Clearly, the first sequel will be a puzzle-solving platform game, and the second sequel will be an educational brain-training game with a test at the end.

Obviously the sinners will prefer the first game, and be forever damned.

:p

Wow, I had seen screenshots of the Lust level and had been fairly impressed that they nailed "Lust" ("nailed lust" tee hee) without feeling too weird and icky. Seeing it fully animated is another story... *twitch*. Still awesome though.

I have no idea how the gameplay will end up, but I think the concept is pretty awesome. I first heard about it a few months ago and thought "whatever, some diablo ripoff" (God of War didn't occur to me at the time). But the more I learn the more it seems like they are treating this seriously and it has a fair amount of depth to it.

It's also slightly infuriating. One of my long term goals is to do a massively multiplayer game about Hell, and the art of this game is pretty much identical to the concept art I had so far. Which makes sense, since we're both cribbing from the same source material. And it'd be at least 10 years before it's anything more than a twinkle in my eye anyway. So I'm not sure whether I want this game to be awesome so I can play the hell out of it ("play the hell out of it," tee hee) or if I want it to fade into obscurity so no one will remember it.

On an semi-related note, is it possible to play God of War on PC? Google gives me a bunch of torrents that all look pretty questionable.

I was actually getting more of a Ninja Gaiden vibe from the video previously linked, but I'm uncertain about the game. I might play it if I am bored with everything else when it releases, but I won't stop playing something else to play it.

I have loved their marketing campaign though, I want to work for those guys once I finish college.

Dude. Troops deployed via vomiting mouth-nipple.

Just how weird and icky were you expecting?

The game is a GoW clone, plain and simple.

I dunno, I love these kinds of games, from Ninja Gaiden (the first one, the second, not so much) to Devil May Cry and especially GoW. GoW/Bayonetta/Dante's Inferno trifecta should be a blast this coming year.

Dude. Troops deployed via vomiting mouth-nipple.
Which I didn't know about until AFTER I saw the video. In the Developer videos and trailers I had seen, characters from Lust moved in a typical sexualized manner but there were no mouth-nipple or dragon-vagina-tongue spawning points, nor giant cliterous tentacles emerging from things.

I think it IS appropriate (however disturbing) that they did what they did, I just wasn't expecting it.

Hey, I don't object to weird and icky, just the denial of its existence.

Yes, those of us who find vomiting nipples and giant penis vaginas slightly disturbing are prudes. Totally prudes. If only we could get over our prudish nature and find vomiting nipples and giant penis vaginas to be what they are, natural parts of sexuality! :p

Well, I admit the vomiting nipples were a bit of a turn-off :-P

Love the graphical vibe of the game though. The gameplay doesn't seem all that interesting, but I mgiht actually play this for the graphics - and that's been a while for me

Gameplay looked pretty sweet to me... but then I don't game nearly as much as I should and I've never gotten to play a quality hack and slash game. (Diablo and it's ilk are more "point and clunk" than "Hack and slash," which isn't nearly as satisfying).

Do it again in Middle Italian, and I'll be impressed.

Also, a Hamlet game would be fun. You could carry around a curtain to stab people behind. left right square circle CURTAIN TOSS'D! X THOU HAST STABBÉD WITH EXTRA DAMAGE DONE!

Damage reduced: Fail'd to make attack in iambic pentameter!

Same. GoW and Ninja Gaiden rock. The only beef I have with these types of games is once you master the button mashing, there's always a single move that kills everything. Ninja Gaiden flying swallow attack for instance. Sure you can combine it with various attacks, but you always have to default to flying swallow to make progress. GoW has a similar attack that I can't quite remember right now.

GoW and Dante are the reason to get a PS3 though.

It's a bullet hell shooter, basically, trick is to have insane fine tuned reflexes and intimate knowledge of your ships actual hitbox, which is usually a hell of a lot smaller than your ship's sprite or model.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2. It's on the PS3, another reason to own one.

I don't think I could play one of those... I'd just get sucked into the light show... Sooooooooo prettyyyyyyyyy...

Also, either the controller or the wall wouldn't survive their meeting.

isn't it not about reflexes at all, just memorisation?
