I didn't see any other active threads on this topic, so here goes. MTV has finally released the entire series of Daria on DVD. It just came out yesterday and retails for $59.99 and contains all of the episodes, the last few TV movies and extras.
The one unfortunate aspect of this set is the music. The reason it's taken so long for this set to come out was because MTV screwed up on the music licensing. As a result the songs that were in the original show have been replaced in this set with more 'generic' music tracks. This is really disappointing since those songs were a pretty integral part of the show, but it's just so nice to actually see this show again (unedited at least) that I'm willing to put up with that.
There's a pretty cool review of the set over at Salon:
So the dialogue's unedited, but a lot of the music has changed? I'm bummed about the music too, but I got sooooo sick of watching the edited reruns. Half the jokes didn't even make sense anymore! I liked this show a lot in high school. I'm so glad they at least got the uncut episodes on DVD finally!

Yeah, the bullshit music licensing issues is ruining a lot of my favorite series (not that Daria is one, I've never watched it myself but in general). I know WKRP (a fucking staple of my childhood) was absolutely butchered by the removal of all actual music in the DVD sets and shit, the Married with Children sets don't even have Love and Marriage in the opening title, replaced by some off key mockery of it.

Uh, huh huh huh huh... does it like... have the episodes of "Beavis and Butt-head" that like, feature Daria too or something? As like, a bonus in extras? Uh, huh huh huh huh huh... "bone." Huh huh huh huh...

Music Licensing issues are also why I'll probably never see a release of Pete and Pete on DVD. That was THE show that defined my childhood.

Yeah, there's no way I'm buying any TV show on DVD that has all the music cues fucked up.

I wonder how feasible it would be to get cover bands to perform for the DVDs. Sure, it probably wouldn't be as good, but it'd be cheap enough to actually produce.

I doubt it'd be cheap enough for MTV. This situation smacks of being cheap and short-sighted. I mean I could understand a TV show from the 80's not taking into consideration rights for future video recordings, since outside of syndication there was no additional market for those episodes. But by the late nineties there was clearly a market for shows like this, even if it was just VHS copies of select episodes (I actually have some early Buffy VHS tapes from Seasons 1 & 2).
This just illustrates how MTV looks at it's own products: cheap and disposable. It's amazing a show as good as Daria ever appeared on that crappy network.

I haven't gotten to the bonus features yet, but I actually wouldn't be that surprised. I know on one of the DVD movies they released they had some Daria on Beavis & Butthead stuff on it.

Uh, huhuhuhuh... Come to Butt-head. Huhuhuhuh.. Uh, huhuhuh.
That's awesome... but it's still missing the third season, which contained my favorite episodes "Farewell, My Little Viking". The only way you can get those is on VHS it seems.
