Just saw this advertised on television, and I'm glad I did. Has anyone else seen anything about Daybreakers?

The Wikipedia page quotes actor Ethan Hawke as calling it "'low art' and 'completely unpretentious and silly'." But I don't know if I trust his word, since I don't know his work/haven't heard him speak in an interview or anything. The ad made it look incredible, and it appears to have surprising depth, despite Hawke's comment. I'm excited to see it.

Ethan Hawke is one of those really artsy actors, so that doesn't surprise me. This is the dude who went all out for Hamlet, after all.

Still, I saw the trailer months ago and I'm stoked. I'm hoping Twilighters will finally see a proper vampire movie.

I saw the preview for this... Looked sexy.

Although from the preview alone, I think the human faction greatly overestimates the power of a crossbow.

When did that start anyway, coz in Dracula a Bowie knife did just fine... and it was the beheading that actually killed the vampire, piercing the heart just immobilized them (at least that's how it looked in the book).

Yeah, the wooden stake would immobilize them but it was decapitation that killed the vampires in Dracula. A sprig of wild rose placed on the coffin would prevent the vampire from leaving and crushed Eucharist could be used to prevent a vampire from entering an area.

I only delivering the message, I think that the "wood stake kill thing" might come from buffy, I remember a episode where Spike gets a stake in the heart... and doesn't die, because it was a fake stake made of plastic

In mythology, there were multiple things that had to be done to insure that a vampire didn't return. Beheading was primary among these. As was a steak through the heart. This was to actually pin the body to the coffin so it couldn't rise. They also took the head and stuffed it with garlic and buried it in holy ground away from the body. In Dracula, they decapitated him AND put a bowie knife through his heart, then the body turned to dust.

Garlic in the mouth was used in Dracula too so they wouldn't have any chance to come back ... (hmmm, Dracula not getting that treatment = sequel hook?)

That's where he got the name from ;)

Fun fact: David Bowie's actual name is David Jones. He changed it to avoid confusion with Monkee's front man Davey Jones.
