Really? No one's posted about the DayZ standalone release that came out yesterday? Halforums I am dissapoint. but hey, I got the game, it's alright they need to tweak the food/drink system right now you get hungry and thirsty it seems like every 5 to 10 minutes and that's no bueno. That's really my only complaint so far.. Well that and zombies can run through walls, not through doors but through walls lol

I keep getting this game confused with The War Z, and I can never remember which one is supposed to be good and which one is supposed to be terrible.

Day Z = Good
War Z = Bad

Good way to remember:

One is so good, you'll play it DAY in, DAY out.
One is so bad, you'll feel like going to WAR against the developers.

It's not a standalone release, it's an alpha (give me money now, maybe I'll fix the game later) release. Huge difference.

Call me when they fix the bugs and provide a better "zombie experience" without the PVP BS.

My issue with it is the real time lighting. I almost always have to play games at night so it would always be dark for me, and in this game that's killer.

But man do I want to play this again. I played it as the mod and liked it, but couldn't play during the day enough to make it fun.

Some servers are restarting every x amount of hours to keep the daytime going, Dave

Really? Well then. That would really change things for me.

I'll probably have to pick this up when I come back from vacation on Monday or Tuesday.[DOUBLEPOST=1387376660,1387376650][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh, and thanks for the info!

My first close call tonight

A friend and I were playing today and we came across another player in a market with no weapons I felt bad and since I had a pistol and a rifle I gave him my pistol and some food and stuff as did my friend he didn't fire on us and was being friendly. Later on in the same city my friend and I went out into the woods and he needed to afk a second and the other guy was nowhere to be seen, somehow he circled in behind us in the wood and came up behind me to kill me, just randomly I looked right a little bit and saw him just as he unloaded 11 bullets in my direction from only about 2 feet away as I started side stepping and unloaded with my rifle taking him down. I didn't think it was the same person at first but after he died I got a good look at him and up, it was the same guy we helped out earlier.. oh well at least we got our stuff back plus some extra food
down side was somehow me killing him ruined the mag in the pistol so once again I have a pistol but no mag =/

So then people still are huge dicks in this game? Good to know.

No surprise there

Reminds me of how people acted in another zombie game (albeit turn based browser zombie game) as well, Urban Dead. Other survivors were 10 times the danger the zombies were, and more than half of the other survivors made dick-being their primary goal.

Oh @Dave if you do get it I have a voice server and I play with between 1 and 3 other players besides myself at any one time so if you need a group hit me up

Isn't that a common theme in zombie movies and shows though? Humans are the real monsters.

Buddy, you don't gotta tell ME that. But it's seldomly so blatantly on display as in these sorts of games.

Yes, but in works of fiction, they often at least try to work through some sort of social order, or may work out deals to avoid their own destruction.

In games like this, people can do it just to troll, and if they die they don't care, because a new character can be created. Survival is not their game, they are just a smarter zombie. With a gun.

Isn't that like the overall main theme of every zombie genre movie and content - like ever?[DOUBLEPOST=1388147374,1388147104][/DOUBLEPOST]

Jay, I agree with you buddy. I don't want to waste the money on an alpha game, but Day Z seems really boring to me overall. While the vids are funny, where are the friggin zombies?

Right now only 4k zombies spawn on server start but they don't respawn yet (same with loot)

@Mathias It's because it's still alpha as fuck.

I'm apprehensive if this game will ever be more than man eat man.

In the totality of videos I've seen the zombies aren't even a problem. They got the food/water thing well enough but it's all about the PVP.

You remove the PVP aspect of the game and make zombies the real problem, I'll buy the game and play it on a personal server with friends.

It was a little different in UD because becoming a zombie wasn't game over, you kept playing as a zombie, and other players could manufacture cure syringes and bring you back to humanity. So it felt more like a vampire movie really, like in Blade, where the zombies had human "familiars" that would sabotage defenses. The zombies would be stuck outside clawing at the barricade, but they'd metagame having a human parkour over onto the roof then come down inside, destroy the generator, open the barricade, then start shooting defenders. It was kinda BS.

Also, to name a couple, Left 4 Dead and Killing Floor didn't have that factor.

As much as I like extremely "hardcore" games, I am not a fan of this one, yet. Given time it has a lot of promise, but not a fan of "Starvation simulator 2013" right now.

Arma3 Wasteland is 100x better.
