Dishwashers!

Dishwashers! Is there such a thing as a dishwasher that can be packed full (ie, a dish inbetween every set of prongs) that doesn't require pre-rinsing of dishes, or post-rinsing of dishes, just scraping solid food off? We could probably go to three lighter loads a day rather than two heavy loads, but time is an issue, and buying a good dishwasher might be a reasonable solution.

What brand (and model if you know) dishwasher do you have? Do you have to pre-rinse or post-rinse? If not, do you find yourself coping other ways, or does your dishwasher take everything you can dish out without complaint or extra work?

Maytag Quietseries 300: light loads, or pre or post rinsing required. Has no food grinder.

I was going to post a picture of a Hispanic person... But I guess your pic is close enough
Came here to do this. A restaurant manager I used to know always said it was important to hire hispanic kitchen help - white kids don't want to work and will go slow and surly.

Was going to post either that or, "You have a jillion kids, what do you need a dishwasher for? Isn't that WHY you have kids?"

I have no useful info. 8 years ago, we bought a 20yr-old Montgomery Ward's dishwasher for $25 and then used it for 5 years. It was noisy and had its flaws, but it was still easier than doing dishes by hand. Then the door seal finally went, and we've been doing dishes by hand for the last few years. When I have a few hundred dollars I can throw at appliances, then I'll start researching.

Whatever you do, stay away from Hotpoint brand model HDA2100N10WW - they're absolutely abysmal dishwashers.

Elsewhere I've gotten a lot of suggestions for bosch dishwashers.

Then someone pointed out that Hobart had commercial dishwashers that fit under counters, and run a full load in 2 to 4 minutes. Of course, they cost $6,000, so not worth it for me, but I'd love a dishwasher that could go that fast.

As far as hand washing:

As far as I'm aware, unless you're going the industrial/commercial way (and those are awesome to use), you'll always have to rinse a bit before hand.
Of course, it depends. With just the two of us, and not cooking every day, and both working full time so eating at work often, we fill about one machine a week, so half the stuff is caked on. Doing a machine twice a day means nothing's caked/baked on, so you can get away with a lot more.
Personally, I prefer rinsing beforehand anyway, because it means the filter doesn't get as clogged, and you don't run the risk of having bacon fat stuck to your breakfast cereal bowl or vice versa.

That said, I've used many a machine over the years (not because they break but because I've done dishes in a lot of places :p), and the lay-out is really something to pay attention to. I have the distinct impression the "cheaper" machines are made with such a lay out that they're simply not as effective and as good at cleaning as the more expensive ones - even if they technically have the same washing power. I know I can't put the plates right next to each other in the machine I currently use (my neighbours'), because they simply won't be clean, no matter what.

I hate hate hate my dishwasher. It's slow, loud and crappy. Doing my dishes by hand has actually become a nice quiet way to finish off the evening before bed. Of course, I live alone and so the quantity of dishes produced in a single day is pretty insignificant.
