Dream Projects You Want to Exist but Likely Never Will

You know, sequels or remakes to old games that deserve them, but that will never, for some reason or another, ever happen. This is some real self indulgent wankery for your favorite dead (or undead) games you want more of.

I want Activision to suddenly lose interest in Skylanders, let Toys for Bob off the hook and allow them to make a proper sequel to Star Control 2. I know the guys at TfB want to do it. They tried to get fans of the series to write letters to Activision letting them know they want a new Star Control. I know I did and got a personal response from Paul Reiche about it. Star Control 2 is maybe the single best video game ever made in my opinion and it's a crime that it's only follow up was the shitty, shitty Star Control 3 (made by a different studio after Accolade decided it would be cheaper).

The Ur-Quan Masters PC version of the game's (mostly like the original save the title) intro:

Or, the rad as fuck early CD CG intro from the 3DO version of the game:

I also want Crystal Dynamics to magically hire Amy Hennig back from Naughty Dog, hire a bunch of the Vigil studios guys and have them make a real....Darksidersish remake of Legacy of Kain. I think that that would be fucking keen. This one is a lot more far fetched than the Toys for Bob one I'll admit.

I only wish the rights and studio weren't owned by Activision. In this modern era of crowdfunding, Toys for Bob would be funded just as quickly and fervently as Torment or the similar Obsidian project.[DOUBLEPOST=1366963293][/DOUBLEPOST]

I would also like to see the final, idealized, ultimate version of Dwarf Fortress within my lifetime. The one with all the features implemented, all at the level of realism Dwarf Fortress players look for.

And preferably a decent interface and maybe some non-ascii graphics, but that's not essential.

Moar Firefly, 'nuff said!

Yes, it probably will never happen and even when it did I'm not sure it would be the same. But I oh so wish they had shot more episodes back in the days.

I want to see some of the lesser know MicroProse games get a redo, hell some of the popular ones too...

Sword of the Samurai
Gunship
F-19/F-117
Darklands

A return of the following IPs:

Battletoads
Noctropolis
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Nightshade

I second bhamv3 want for a Half-Life 3. Part of me kind of hopes it'll be announced this year at E3, but I'm not getting those hopes high.

And of course, a Superman game. A good Superman game on par with Arkham Asylum games.

The alpha game footage looked pretty solid to me. Admittedly, I'm don't have much experience with shadowrun specifically, but from a general turn based rpg standpoint, I like it.

Also it would blow me

Give me another true sequel to Ogre Battle, or Brigandine, or FF:Tactics. I also second the call for Chrono Trigger 2: Chrono Harder.

I want a new version of Mount and Blade with cooperative multiplayer so you can have your buddies as lords under your command and they can fight their own battles as well as join with you for coordinating larger assaults.

I also want EA to die horribly and the rights to Mass Effect and Dragon Age go to a studio who won't piss and shit all over them.

That could be pretty awesome.

Considering the best one of them all (the SNES) was the 5th episode, I want the whole series redone in that engine/style!

Oh hell yes. Though Ogre Battle 64 was pretty bitchin'. They could use that engine too.

Another one for the books:
A true Suikoden 6 (Dunno what the hell they were thinking going to Tactics style). I've truly enjoyed every Suikoden game and was one of the few that stayed true to a formula and did it better with every game.

A real MaRPG sequel, and a Paper Mario sequel that brings back old original characters other than Kammy Koopa.

A Metroid sequel with good gameplay, but where Samus doesn't need to be "allowed" to use her powerups by her not-boyfriend. That was just bad writing.

Capcom to bring the 3 Ace Attorney games that haven't been translated TO FUCKING AMERICA! And I do NOT believe that the series isn't popular enough, they decided to put him in Marvel vs. Capcom rather than Megaman! Speaking of which-

-more Megaman games! I don't really care about the franchise admittedly, but a lot of people do and its not fair how crappy they treat this franchise.

A Sonic reboot. Its reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally needed.

And finally I want Activision to work with Imsomniac and make the REAL sequel to Spyro. And no I'm not knocking Skylanders I hear thats good, I'm knocking the piecashit sequels created by fucking Vivendi! HOW DID RIPTO AND GNASTY COME BACK TO LIFE! One of them fell in lava, and the other turned into gems! Even worse than what they did to the plot, the games are crap compared to the original trilogy. "Enter the dragonfly" had only ONE boss fight, and the one with Gnasty looks like it has waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much level grinding.

ALL OF THIS. I would love, love, love a true sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics, not that Advance crap with its stripped-down ability customization and its silly Narnia-style story involvement. Give me politics and bloodshed and the freedom to totally abuse the support, counter, and move ability settings.

Also, for Nintendo to release Mother 3 in English outside Japan.

That Narnia plot was ridiculous. "Hey! I think we are in the game Final Fantasy!"

I think it's funny how in the first Advance, the kid is like "We have to find a way out of here and back to our real lives!" whereas in Advance 2 the kid's attitude is pretty much "I have everything I've ever wanted, right now."

A Kirby game where they finally explain what the fuck Meta Knight's relationship with Kirby is. Why do they look the same? Are they related? The same species? WHATS THE DEAL?!

Disney to bring back Lucasarts, and allow Boom studios to make Darkwing Duck comics again. I know thats not a game, but those comics were fucking awesome and I felt they could've gone on for a long run.

A sequel to every original Tim Schaefer game that doesn't have a sequel! What the hell world, Call of Duty gets a billion sequels yet imaginative games made by the Schaef-man don't? WHATS THE DEAL?!

A second season to SBCG4AP. Really I just want the brothers Chap making Homestar Runner stuff in general, but this especially.

I thought it was pretty obvious that they were both Dreamlanders, or whatever Kirby's race would be called.

And hell no, you -never- explain the mystery behind something cool and mysterious. That just ruins it. See: Midichlorians.

#34

Gilgamesh

Gilgamesh

I have to agree with Ravenpoe, when I was younger I wanted everything that was mysterious explained and dissected. Now as I'm older, I find that most of the time the mystery is much better than the reveal and much prefer the mystery.

EX: Kirkman has said he'll never explain the origins of the zombie infection in Walking Dead because it doesn't matter, what matters is that there's zombies and they're awesome.

I just feel the whole mystery angle to Meta-knight is a little forced. "Ooh, Meta-knight revealed he looks like Kirby...again!" And then it makes me wonder, why does he KEEP doing this? Kirby has seen it before, what is the point in unmasking himself dramatically more than once? Its not like characters like "The Phantom Stranger" that never give a certain origin, Meta-knight gives off that he DOES have certain origin and they aren't telling us just because it makes him look cool or whatever. I accept I'm the minority on this, but it still bugs me.

Because it is largely aimed at children who have not played every kirby game and memorized every kirby event.

Right, not every event but I'm pretty sure they'd remember the unmasking of a recurring character if they get one of the sequels. But whatevs, series ain't gonna change.

A god-game that is completley from Bowser's perspective making traps and setting up bad-guys for Mario to be killed by! Too dark for a real game I know, but it still sounds cool.

Marvel vs. Mortal Kombat: Just because the idea of Scorpion meeting Ghost Rider would be hilarious. "You made a deal with a demon that gave you a flaming skull? ME TOO!"

More MidEvil games! Sir Dan-ROCKS!

I could wear that this has been done, it wasn't Mario, but it was a tower defense game where you play the role of a villain laying traps for side-scrolling heroes. I can't remember what it was called, though, and I can't seem to find it. Anyone else remember seeing this?

Now that I think about I may have read a description to a game like that, can't remember what it was called though. Your not talking about Villainous right? That reverse Tower Defense game?

There are tower defense games based around being villains trying to stop heroes, but I've never seen a sidescrolling one and of course there's Dungeon Keeper and Deception.

Actually I'm not sure this one was tower defense, but it was a Mario-style platformer in reverse, where the player took on the role of the villain designing a level to kill the hero.

Oh, than I don't know. Sounds cool though, when the name comes to mind tell me.

A good Crash Bandicoot game. What happened to that fuzzy guy? Damn disapeared.

A Bubsy the Bobcat game that is mostly a comedy where he accepts how terrible a character he is. THAT-would be funny.

Does anyone remember the "Left Behind" series of novels? They were a rather cheesy bit of Christian fiction based around the author's interpretation of the Revelation of John and the other prophetic books of the Bible, and what happens after the "rapture". At one point a video game was made based on those novels, and it was just a crappy cookie-cutter RTS that, thankfully, sold poorly. The game really puzzled me because of it's lack of ambition. At the time I really wished that they'd made something like a post-apocalyptic Animal Crossing instead. In the books the city of Chicago is bombed, and the underground Christian resistance hacks government computers to trick people into thinking that nuclear bombs were used and the entire city is radioactive. They then set up their base amidst the ruins of Chicago. Imagine a setting where you run errands for people while exploring a bombed out metropolis for supplies. Collect items to furnish your base however you like, unlock new modes of transportation, etc.

Now I'm thinking it'd be more fun to make a steampunk version of animal crossing. Picture a steampunk universe where there's a town built to be a think-tank of quirky and eccentric scientists (kind of like the SyFy series Eureka), and you play a bike messenger just hired. You run errands, help with experiments, find lost parts after explosions, provide first aid, build robots, celebrate holidays, work your way up to better jobs, etc. All the while you're upgrading your own living quarters, from a tiny little one-room pre-fab, up until you've got a nice townhouse, or maybe even a mansion. You get furnishings, and inventions to play with. I think something like that could be amazing.
