Duck Tales: Remastered.

So thoughts? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Is it whatever?

I haven't had time to play much. I've played the intro level. So far I think the gameplay is just like the original. The only thing I'm not liking is the voices. Maybe I'm just sensitive, but the actors can't hold those voices as well as they used to. Scrooge, Duckworth, and Burger Beagle are good examples. Burger especially is hard to listen to.

And the actor playing Fenton wasn't even close.

I freakin' love it. The gameplay is faithful to the original, they expand well upon the story and dynamics of the levels, the music is wonderful. This feels like a great example of how to remaster a game, on the whole.

Also, you can swim in the Money Bin.

Gameplay is fine I think, very much like the original (with some wonky 2D to 3D hit detection, but WayForward, so should be expected).

I think it's great and all that they got most of the original voice cast back (some of them nearing 100 God damn years old) but Holy Fucking Shit, ENOUGH with the voice over breaks. Every 20 seconds it feels like I'm stopping to hear Scrooge's thoughts. Those voice overs could just play over gameplay most of the time without it being an issue. And the fact that they play even when you return to a level is ridiculous. I know you can skip them, as long as you don't mind pausing the game to skip, but the interruption in gameplay happens none the less. Just really shitty design choices.

The character sprites look fantastic but the same cannot be said for a lot of the 3D shit in the backgrounds. They way too often look paper dolled on rough textureless 3D constructs (especially after playing Dragon's Crown).

Most of the music remixes are good stuff, with the exception, in my opinion, of the moon. I don't like it.

It's a great game underneath everything, I think it's not made better by a lot of what WayForward has added to it. I'm still just not the biggest fan of their work.

You know, I do enjoy the voice acting, but all of the breaks for that are my primary gripe with the game. Still, I love it.

Alright, we all know why Count Dracula Duck (awful) can't be called Duckula (British cartoon of the same name) but why not Drakeula or something?

Especially considering that "Drakeula" makes an appearance on the show in the episode "Ducky Horror Picture Show." Based on what I've seen so far of the writing, it's clear they have watched a lot of the show. I'm rather surprised the name didn't survive. I haven't played Transylvania yet, so I'm not sure if the character matches the version from the show yet.

My thoughts so far: I think it's a pretty faithful recreation of the original game. The gameplay is the same. Many of the sounds are the same. Music is pretty nostalgic. I've already griped about the voices a bit, but I suppose it's hard to replace people like Fenton when the original voice actor died. But then again, I've been very into the voice over industry for quite some time now, and I think that they could have easily found better voice matches for the characters who's original actors died. Flintheart Glomgold could not have been that hard to get closer to the original.

The cinematics and dialogue are a little much, but since you can switch them off I suppose it's not really worth griping about.

I gotta say though, I'm impressed with the animations on a lot of the sequences. The gizmoduck transformation was pretty damn accurate in comparison.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck this game is fantastic. The music, the art, everything. Best purchase I've made in a long time.

What...what kind of stance IS that?

FYI, you can skip the cinematics by pausing and selecting Skip Cinematic.

Also, easy mode is... well, "baby's first video game" easy.

I was just waiting for the game to update (super slow connection on my laptop because it's through my 3g cell phone.) when I decided to look at the Steam forums for the game. What I happened upon in a thread regarding negative reviews of the game was quite possibly the best post on any message board ever.

I don't know why, but I just can't stop laughing.

Make sure you turn hard pogo on for the full experience (or don't because it's way touchier than the NES original).

Finished playing it on EASY and quite enjoyed it. I'll set it to hard next, but I just wanted to get through it as quickly as possible since I don't typically have a lot of time.
My thoughts: It's pretty much the Ducktales we know and love. With better art, VO, cutscenes, and some extra levels. A lot of people are praising the VO, and I can understand why. But trust me when I say that there are some incredible differences. Yes it's been 20 years since these actors last performed these roles, but it's sometimes hard to listen to. And I've got a good source of comparison as my kids have been watching my Ducktales DVDs in the car for about a year now. Some of the voices are just unbearable to listen to, such as Burger Beagle. The voice is just so high it's painful to listen to. Then there are some unfortunate additions made due to the original actor having passed on such as for Fenton, Gyro, and Glomgold. Sadly they absolutely failed in finding a decent voice match for any of those characters.
The cinematics are a little long and unnecessary. I understand you can skip them, but there should have been a way of just turning them off completely. Watching them the first time through is entertaining enough, but after that they just kinda get in the way.

Bought the game a few days ago. Really enjoying it. Love the music, too - but therein lies my one criticism of the game: not-readily-discernible volume controls, if they even exist at all. Yes, I get that this is just a remaster of an old NES game and that the volume control used to be the TV volume - but you've obviously added resolution controls, so how's about letting me turn the volume down a skosh without having to mute the Netflix that my wife is listening to at the same time, eh?
