This is just getting started and is already looking like a pile of ass. I knew this was going to be a disappointing year for games and my wallet is thankful for it, but it is kind of sad. I'm running out of older games I missed during college.

Feel free to share videos and tidbits and ranting; we can pile it all together.

My share: Remember how the WiiU is going to have that terrible screen on the controller gimmick? Microsoft was feeling left out, so we're getting a second screen for them too. Bad call, guys.

Apparently my old college buddy works for some gaming website and is out there covering it. I'll link whenever I realize it is that he's exactly doing (I'm just getting some second-hand comments from his status updates on FB)

New IP from Ubisoft called 'Watch Dogs'. I quite like the idea, the demo looked pretty fun. Heavy Rain-esque, but I'm not complaining.

I enjoyed the Tomb Raider demo, missed most of it though. I'm glad that they pushed back the release date since graphically...I'm not that impressed with it. This game looks so much more brutal than any other Tomb Raider I've seen, but am still excited for it! :)

Also, I'm actually quite pleased that there was no next gen announcement from Microsoft.

It's the usual crap that E3 lets them shovel out. HEY HERE'S THE HYPE MACHINE GUYS LOOK IT'S USHER AND SCREENS IN YOUR LAP FOR ALL also here's 4 minutes of Halo 4 and a small preview of the South Park game, something you jerks actually wanted NOW BACK TO THE KINECT.

Checking all the daily trailers / news
Ice Planet 3 - Reminds me so much of Dead Space. Looks decent enough. Console though so meh.
X-COM - The fuck is this shit? Good lord.
Sleeping Dogs - I LIKE IT! Definitely on my radar now.
Hybrid - Sucks.
Theatrhythm Final Fantasy -:rage:
Resident Evil 6 - Interesting. Please don't fucking suck like RE 5.
FarCry 3 - Don't care.
Devil May Cry - Really don't care.
Halo 4 - Don't care at all.
South Park RPG - I LOVE IT! I lost it when he said "Jews can't be saviors".
War of the Roses - Reminds me of the MP part of Mount & Blade. Seems interesting but I didn't like the rock song... so I think it'll be mostly death match bullshit.
The Last of Us - FUCK YES.... TAKE MY MONEY. I'd pay double for PC!
The Last of Us, Sleeping Dogs, South Park RPG are on the radar. Mild interest in War of the Roses and Resident Evil 6... maybe.

The Last of Us and Resident Evil 6.

X-Com had me at one point, but it sounds like they're fucking it up, so meh. You don't start making a sequel when you haven't finished the first damn game.

EDIT: I should be more specific. Right now they seem to be trying to make it more like the other X-Com game fiction with new game mechanics. I liked the whole 1950s paranormal investigator route they were going before. So meh.

#9

CynicismKills

Watch Dogs looks like a lot of fun, depending on what all you end up being able to do with that hacking device. Halo 4 looks like Halo, but I enjoyed 3 so we'll see I suppose. South Park could be awesome, I'd like to see more of the gameplay and such.

Overflight

I think you must be confused, Quotemander: they haven't released media related to the XCOM FPS for a while now (it was delayed for next year). Most of the media they are showing now is a new X-COM turned based strategy game closer to the original games. Is that what you are referring to?

#11

Out of all those games, the only one I'm sure of getting is "The Last of Us".

I don't know if it's a testament to how shitty everyone else's E3 offerings were or to how much Ubi may have improved but Watch_Dogs looks like it may be the coolest fucking game ever made. That was an incredible showing.

EA's was awful. What a bunch of trash.

What i want to know is if they announced the Wii U specs... 2GB of RAM min pls, pretty pls with cherries on top...

Seriously, RAM is dirt cheap right now and i don't mind the graphics being behind the curve because of consoles, just makes me able to use my original video card longer, but the lack of processing power leads to really annoying consolitis stuff...

All signs point to it being comparable to the 360 power wise. It may be higher or lower depending on different leaks from different developers.

Unless they have a time machine they use to get very old hardware i doubt that...

At this point in time i don't think i could even buy a 300$ PC that's weaker then the 360 (assuming all relevant parts)...

Teh graphics not being all that much more of a jump is another thing, and i'm positive that Sony and MS's next gen won't have as much of a graphics jump as previous gens did either...

Aisha Tyler was ok, but that other guy she was saddled with might have been the worst presenter Ubisoft has found to date. How they keep continuing to outdo themselves with shitty presenters year after year is amazing.

#46

SpecialKO

SpecialKO

The problem with Ubi is that they live in a strange bizarro land where everyone who hasn't bought their PC games must have pirated them, and therefore only stringent super-DRM can save the day.

That's why I only buy Ubi games I want on console. I have long since given up that Ubi will take the hint and knock that shit off.

War of Cybertron is a pretty fun game I just finally picked up recently, but I am having issues playing it right now thanks to Steven Blum. Silly, I know, that a voice actor would make me not want to play a game, but I somehow found myself playing a few games in a row that have him as a main voice actor, the one right before WoC being WH: DoW2, in which he voiced Cyrus. After hearing him recently in the Avengers Cartoon as Beta Ray Bill, I think I became Steven Blum-ed out.

Right now the only game coming out of E3 that is exciting me is The Last of Us, just because I like the fact it seems to be more true to the survival horror genre then the last few years.

#51

Welp, Nintendo was mostly gimmick shit.

Surprise Surprise
"So Reggie, how did you like being the puppetmaster?"
"It's a lot like being in charge of Nintendo America."

I'm not really a nintendo fanboy or anything, but Reggie Feezemay's presentations are always amusing.

#52

Dei

Dei

The way I see it, Nintendo throws some bones to the hardcore, FPS playing, graphics snobbing, gimmick free people, but really, Nintendo has survived as long as it has by sticking with what works for them. People who want Nintendo stuff want Mario, Luigi, Donkey Kong, they want Nintendo to do strange, gimmicky things, because that's part of what they do as well. (See: Nintendo DS, Wii). And what I like about Nintendo the most is something I've already said. The head of Nintendo comes on stage, is super excited about a game, and then they move on to the rest. THEY SHOW ENTHUSIASM! They aren't just random corporate drones going blah blah blah new game DLC blah blah blah.

(Disclaimer: I don't really play console games anymore, I generally buy them for my kids, which just makes me more biased towards Nintendo.)

This is my concern. That bit was amazing, but seemed so scripted. I'm curious what happens if your actions deviate from that, if there's still so much interaction and context-sensitive dialogue.

I wonder the same thing, as it's also what I'm curious about with Watch Dogs. Both looked amazing, with some sweet options to interact with your surroundings along with interesting context-sensitive events. I could actually see the strings with Watch Dogs. He couldn't stayed in the art show, for example, or waited for DeMarco to pull up, or use other hacking stuff. It helped that more of the UI was shown to us with that one.

I must be one of the few people out there that's not honestly that excited for The Last of Us. Does it look great? Abso-fucking-lutely.

But here's my beef: if you were to replace the main character with Nathan Drake and throw in some quips, it would be almost interchangeable with an Uncharted game. The close-quarters combat and duck/cover gunplay looks almost identical.

I'm just talking about the core gameplay mechanics. The setting, I'll grant you. Looking past just the looks, it feels an awful lot like Uncharted.

They're not related.

The gameplay being similar to one of the best selling franchises ever isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's the tone and story that interest me. Nathan Drake makes one-liners in between committing genocide, whereas killing in The Last of Us seems to actually have an impact on the characters. That's what I want to see them explore, and I look forward to seeing if Naughty Dog has the chops to pull it off.

#71

Jay

Jay

The gameplay for The Last of Us felt like a movie. I'm excited about the game but we'll see once it comes out and I see some more gameplay vids by non-devs.

As much as I like Uncharted, cover and shoot mechanics need to be functional with every console game.... because learning to aim on a console is retarded compared to a mouse and keyboard. So, if I'm forced to derp to shoot my enemies, I fully expect them to derp in return... that won't work very well would it... have people derping around trying to aim and generally sucking a dick..... yes, cover and shoot mechanics are a must for any console shooting.

And you simply cannot ignore the setting.

#72

Bowielee

Bowielee

I used to feel the same way about console controls for aiming, but i've gotten so used to it now that I'm just as accurate with a controller or a mouse.

#73

CynicismKills

CynicismKills

I think my favorite console aiming was in the Metroid Prime games, the first two mainly. The lock on feels a little easy at first, but constantly snapping between targets as I mow them down gets pretty satisfying once you're used to it and as the enemies get tougher and faster it works really well.

Another year, another E3, no Half-Life from Valve.

Also, for some reason Watch Dogs gave me a strong Assassin's Creed feel. Maybe it's because Ubisoft's sticking with what they know, or maybe it's a similar engine, but I kept expecting the player character to suddenly shank someone with his hidden blade.

I'm actually super excited for the WiiU! I don't love the name, but I think the console is really neat (hope to try it out at PAX) and love the look of the Pro Controller. Actually, REALLY excited for the pro controller so that you're not just stuck with using a Wii controller.

Last Of Us looks amazing! Holy crap, smart AI?? Don't own a PS3, but it might finally be time to pick one up soon. ...although we did just buy a new 360. Anyway, there's enough games that I'm interested in now for the PS3 that I'd like to have one, also bluray would be nice as I'm lacking that here too.

I'm also really interested in The Unfinished Swan. It really seems like my kind of game, and I'm kind of bummed that I watched so much of the gameplay, because I feel like I know too much about the game already! I would've loved to have discovered it all on my own.

Halo 4 has my interest since I've been playing through the series.

Paper Mario 3DS!! I LOVE Paper Mario. Super excited for this one!! And the other new Mario game too! <3

I think that's all I was excited about. Never played any of the Lara Croft games, but the new one looks good.

Word of advice, wait until the game is out and there's hand on accounts of the AI from players before buying anything... making an AI look smart in a trailer (or having a boss chop off a barbs head, i'm looking at you Diablo3) is way easier then actually doing it...

Y'know, I do have to say...For some reason, Half-Life 2 is cosnidered to be the end-all be-all of games for a WHOLE LOT of people. Even ignoring whether or not this is true, there's the problem of expectations. Expectations for Diablo III were so high that the game, despite being very good, is viewed by many fans as "not what it should have been". I think Half-Life 3 is the same. I think it's quite literally impossible for Valve to actually live up to the expectations of fans at this point. Episode 3 would theoretically be more manageable - but there they'd have to pull some REALLY amazing shit out of their hat to keep people from saying "it might've been any other mod". I think they're right in not making a third installment. They can't win.

"Kids, you tried your best and you failed miserably. The lesson is…never try."
I'd guess Bioware would like to go back to pre-ME3-release reputation if they could. Businesswise, "gambling and losing" isn't a winning strategy. "Don't gamble, always take the sure path" isn't, either - but it's a much slower death. If the company collapses *after* you've left, you win. Therefor, in a business environment, at high levels, most people unfortunately prefer to drive slowly towards a cliff and let the next driver fall down into it, rather than try to soar over it at breakneck speeds...and risk falling into the chasm.

Life lessons for kids =/= the way most high-up business people conduct themselves.
Of course, I freely admit I'm one of those never-dares-to-make-a-move, worry-and-feelb-ad-about-roads-not-taken-afterwards people. 'm aware it's not a good trait. :(
