Embeded Youtube videos do not load

Firefox is not allowing any embedded youtube videos to load. I can view them on youtube.com, but I cannot get them to load here or on other forums (thus this thread is here and not in the Bug Report section). I can view them with IE as well. I have made sure I have the latest updates of both flash and firefox. I also reinstalled both, but nothing changed.

I don't know what to do from here. Any suggestions?

I noticed there was a thread that had some that were working and some that weren't. I have no idea why and noting changed.

Damn it.

Yeah, I have the same versions of Firefox and Windows, but that video just shows as a blank, white rectangle. What version of Flash do you have? (go here) Mine is 10.1.53.64

Edit: Also, Dave, before you get too upset, I want to make sure you know that this is not a problem with just this forum. Penny Arcade's forum did the same thing to me, so it's likely an issue with my browser or flash (or both).

It's got to be you. I'm up to date on both Flash and Firefox and I see it fine.

Thing that gets me is that IE works fine. So it's gotta be something in firefox or with the flash plugin, but i just can't figure out what it is.

I am using the same version of flash as you are

Most likely culprit is a FIrefox addon. As they update regularly you should possibly check them out.

I've disabled all of my add-ons now, but there is no change.

sometimes, it is sitting and gives me a message at the bottom of the screen saying "Read s.ytimg.com" and does not go through.

I looked that up and it is you tube's image server, so it looks like that connection is not going through for some reason. So now, why is that not working in FF, when it works for IE?

ooooook, I gave up a bit after my last post, but just now when I came back, it is working. I have not done anything to it in the interim. Weird.

s.ytimg.com is part of the massive storage behind youtube. Sounds like something was preventing your browser from being able to access the movie content of youtube. But since you could watch it ON the site, I don't know what to think.

The Flash plug-in for MSIE is an ActiveX plugin, the Flash plug-in for every other browser is not. It is quite possible that the non-ActiveX plug-in needed to be updated/got damaged/broke/etc and just had to sort itself out.

Happens a lot when you get the big 'Your Flash player is in need of an update!' message. Whichever one you launch first gets updated but the other one doesn't until you try to use it, too.

Well the weird thing is that it was ONLY the embedded youtube videos. Flash animations on other sites and such worked, watching videos on youtube itself worked, the videos embedded here or over at Penny Arcade's forum did not. There was no message either, it'd just show as a blank, white box. Also, I had completely uninstalled flash and then reinstalled it, but there was no change.

I don't know what it was in the end and it lasted for a couple of days before correcting itself. There must have been something blocking the connection for some reason, but I tried white listing youtube and the s.ytimg.com, but again, no help.

Any way, it is working now.

And just as suddenly, the problem is back. It must be something with my connection, I'll have to look into that.
