Feeling bad for Fictional Deaths

Don't look at me. Last time I asked about the saddest thing, I couldn't get out of bed for a week.

Also: if a major character of a story dies, and I don't feel anything one way or another, the author has failed.

I admit feeling a little bummed about my 4th-level Dragonborn paladin Vashir. He ended up becoming a canned lunch for a chaos beast.

All because our stupid rogue decided to study a Negative Space Wedgie by throwing knives at it...

I paid back in our Changeling campaign, where I (admittedly accidentally) turned a "okay, let's talk this over and we can all go home" situation with the police into an "AAARGHH!! SHOOT SHOOT SHOOT!" situation that almost killed two player characters :p

Thus far, fictional character in movies and games can affect me a little, but I don't let it "take over"

I do get teary when someone brought up Firefly :(
Arieth.... not so much.
She is such a tease now (after watching Advent Children)

I remember the first time I saw Doctor Horrible. After the death ray blew up and Captain Hammer ran away crying I thought, "Great. Doctor Horrible won! Now I wonder how Penny's gonna take it... aww crap."

In the D&D campaign that I ran for about a year and a half we had quite a few interesting NPCs. The players and I forgot their names so they eventually became known by simple labels such as "The Mayor," "That Chinese Guy," or "That Metrosexual Halfling Tailor." We grew attached to them since they were usually persistent characters. This affected the players' behavior in two ways. First, they weren't tempted to slit the NPCs throats out of hand or to get a few copper pieces (I made the mistake of allowing evil PCs). Second, it actually made am impression when an NPC died.

I am in a tabletop roleplaying group... it is a super-hero game and we are having a mental debate with the super-villain who is the most powerfull being in the planet able to summon armies from any point in history... well...

One of the players has a mary sue wannabe character who provoked him.

the result? he in a few seconds destroyed Tampa, caused 200 millions deaths and 300 milliosn wounded.

I actually feeling boomed about it, is it normal? :(
it's reckless cowboy vigilanties like you that make super hero registration a necessity! Who gave you the right to play god? A mask is not a badge! Arghablarghablarrrrrrrgh!

I just couldn't get into Dr. Horrible, so when [strike]Skeletor[/strike] Penny died, I was like, "meh".

I think it's Whedon's dialogue--it just makes his characters so fake sounding.

To be fair, Doctor Horrible was basically a comic book musical. Comic book characters are SUPPOSED to sound fake and cheesy.

Sorry, no. As much as I loved Buffy, I completely agree with everyone who criticizes Whedon's unnaturally... witty character dialogue.
