Former President and Convicted Felon Trump Thread

God can't seem to make up His mind.
On the one hand, we have all those people claiming that Trump was put on Earth to bring a new old age of prosperity.
And on the other, we have this twitter ad suggesting that DeSantis was created by God on the 8th day in order to fight for humanity.
Guess this means they're going to have to change all those "Ten Commandments" school monuments to only be nine.

they already tossed that silly first one away with their almost literal adoption of the golden calf story last year at CPAC

Looks like the Christofascists are gambling pretty hard that they will win power.
Here's hoping their confidence is misplaced, otherwise Dave is going to have to relive the 12th century all over again.

Oh yes, this is 100% real, and what's more, it can be, uh, raised.

We built Elon Musk a $600,000 monument on the back of a semi trailer in honor of his many accomplishments and commitment to Cryptocurrency! It won't just be a goat with the head of Musk, but will feature real rocket fire, smoke, lasers, concert lighting and music. It will be a global spectacle that is sure to go viral beyond crypto and into mainstream media.
Now I know why the book of Revelations is plural.

His whole speech must be more stupid rambling than usual. He made some weird claims that during his time there were no immigration and no drug deaths among other things. I believe foreign news outlets did more coverage than the local news.

I don't think he thinks of it like that. Even though the 22nd amendment specifically says "elected" and not "served."
I hope so much that he and Desantis fight over who gets to be second, though.

The scenario I'm guessing many Democrats are hoping for is that Desantis wins the primary and Trump runs as an independent.

Consequently, I'm guessing the Republicans are going to do everything in their power to prevent this, either by trying to make it so that Trump can't run at all, or by throwing their lot behind Trump and to try to make him the nominee. Desantis can have his chance four years later.

I'm not a democrat but my hope is that Florida sinks into the ocean and drowns both of them. I realize I also live in Florida, but I'm willing to take my chances swimming for it.
I don't fancy my chances, but I'm pretty close to being willing to take one for the team in similar circumstances. But it needs to take Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and South Carolina, too.

On the plus side, since nobody can be elected president more than twice, this is him admitting he really did lose in 2020.
Does Trump even know that a president can only be elected twice? I kinda assume that he'd run for a third term unless he were incarcerated in a sound proof box.

SCOTUS has ruled 9-0 with no written opinion that Trump's tax records must be turned over.

Damn. 9-0. That's a pretty big FU to the former guy from his hand-picked lackeys. Did Clarence and Ginny have a fight this morning or something?

Their loyality isn't to him, it's to their party. And with all the talk of DeSantis being the next leader, there's no reason not to get Trump out of the way, since he seems convinced he's going to get the ticket again.

He's just going to run third party and spoil things. Which... is fine?

I doubt it very much. I'd love it if he did (though I could see that causing a lot of right wing democrats to vote for the official republican candidate rather than the left wing commie bastard nominated by the democratic party like Biden or something) but I don't see it happening. He'll rip the republican party apart, hopefully, but I think his entourage will keep him from it.

Trump has outlive his usefulness. Washington repubs know that he's a reverse midas touch at this point. Trump has too much ego to not run even if he loses the republican nomination. If that happens, he'll split the vote. Right not party loyalist repubs need trump to die, go to jail, or flee to Russia. Helping with the discovery of his dirty laundry helps with two of those.

Right now they're in a weird limbo where trump could easily be out of the picture one way or another, so they need Desantis to stay relevant but hopefully he's willing to play ball and wait his turn if need be. If Trump is still around though when the time comes they'll have to nominate him and throw all their support behind him if they want to have any chance of winning.

And normally they would just bid their time and wait and play the long game like always. Most of the leadership is pretty ancient though at this point so this may be their last chance to really fuck people over before they die and go to hell.
