HA YES!! THAT is what I hate about Mythbusters too. I'd add "What do you mean 'representative'?"

Also, I thought PCR took like 2 weeks, not overnight. If we only had a biologist with lab experience to ask... BANNED

lets not talk about statistical analysis, what they do is simple rough reproduction of a supposed event. they are trying to "reproduce an experiment" is the general argument you seem to get from people. of course that ignores the fact that the event is a urban legend/myth. so yes I agree as well.

I'm pretty sure that the Mythbusters don't claim to be difinitive. I'm pretty sure they are straightforward that they're on an entertainment show.

See, if they did what you're saying, I'd be okay with the show. But I don't get that impression from the show at all! In fact, I've always gotten quite the opposite, which is why it bugs me so.

Dude, it's a show that's largely about blowing stuff up.

If you hate Mythbusters, I'd hate to see what you think of Deadliest Warrior.

I'm all for scientific accuracy in SCIENCE, but not in entertainment.

Hmm, normally, I like xkcd, but this one is pretty weak. It's not really the lack of rigor that's the problem for me, it's the way they act like it IS rigorous. Especially Jamie. The third panel is the heart of the problem--the viewers. People don't watch it this way. They watch it to see the proof/disproof, not the experimentation. I don't think they learn this lesson at all. That's my issue! They see these guys "test" something, and then assume it's right, and never think about the experiment. I've seen enough people say "well, Mythbusters tested that", and cite it for proof. I have never once seen, though, anyone say, "Oh Mythbusters tested something, I should test my thing, too."
