Why buy games at all? Why not just rent them?Frankie said:I literally rarely finish a game. It's pretty sad.
Current games I've pretty much stopped playing would include Prototype, Infamous, Overlord 2 and Ghostbusters.
Something new comes out and I move on or I just lose interest in the case of Prototype and Infamous. I dunno.
I'm with you there, it takes alot to keep me from finishing something (see my reasons above)Fun Size said:I have to say I find this amazing. As someone who plays games for the full experience, including the story (lacking though they may be), I find there are almost no games that I do not finish. Multiplayer usually doesn't require finishing a game. I'll also go back to a game from time to time and hit little bits of it, but I just don't commit enough time to finish them.Shegokigo said:Why buy games at all? Why not just rent them?

I wasn't necessarily playing for the story, but the actual play didn't engage me after a while. I would have totally finished KOTOR if not time constraints. As it is, the only free time I have to play games are on my PSP when I'm on the stationary bike.chakz said:Fun Size said:Hulk: Ultimate Destruction

Not to be a * but in a game like Ultimate destruction why would you care about the story? In such a game the story only exists to loosely tie together the parts where you run around and crush stuff, which is pretty much the whole point of the game. I don't really care why the hulk would turn a tour buss into surf board and downtown Manhattan into his own personal skate park but that isn't going to stop me from doing it.
Maybe its a taste thing. I watched a guy run around Red faction and do nothing but arbitrarily murder people and it seemed as about as much fun as mowing the lawn to me but what ever. To each his own.
Second on Kotor. I have trouble with the whole "Everyone can be a jedi" thing, and the story didn't really grab me.
Another for FF12. I like the game but Its never really pulled me along like other rpgs. Also: I have trouble with rpgs where all my characters are capable doing everything, I like roles.
Because where I live it's a fucking stroke of stupid dumb luck if our local shit shack videostore even brings in most games. They still only have one tiny 4 foot by 4 foot rack for all the current gen systems.Shegokigo said:Shakey said:I can't finish games, I get bored with them too quickly. Spore doesn't HAVE an ending.
You can argue it has an ending - making it to the center of the galaxy.David said:I, um, never made it to the space stage... aranoid:Bowielee said:Unless you never even made it to the space stage, you completed it.David said:Spore - got boring

I bet you were in the desert. The directions given by the guy are wrong--he tells you to follow the star to the left of the one you're supposed to be following. I quit the game for 2 years, and then looked it up online, and finally got to the Goddess's dome, the final dungeon.CynicismKills said:Breath of Fire III - Kinda sad I never finished this, I love this series and consider this the last good one (that I played). Too hard without being fun enough. Might try again some time.
I got to the very last area and had no armor left, so I was getting one-shotted by everything. I said "Fuck it" and just uninstalled it. The game is fun, but it's not fun enough to justify me reloading the same fight for the 50th time just so I can advance 20 feet and get popped by someone else.Frankie said:STALKER is a rough God damn game.
Is that the swimming one, disabling the bombs? I actually never had troubles with that level.CynicismKills said:Oh Jesus yes. Also, the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game in two words:

I refuse to believe anyone who says they had no trouble with the seaweed parts. It's like a buddy of mine who claims to have completed Super Ghouls n Ghosts all the way through twice. I'll fucking believe that shit when I see it.ThatNickGuy said:Is that the swimming one, disabling the bombs? I actually never had troubles with that level.CynicismKills said:Oh Jesus yes. What I DID have troubles with was the godforsaken level where, somewhere in the sewers, you have to do this super short jump. It's near fucking impossible to make it and I've NEVER been able to.
You're supposed to walk over it, not jump.ThatNickGuy said:What I DID have troubles with was the godforsaken level where, somewhere in the sewers, you have to do this super short jump. It's near fucking impossible to make it and I've NEVER been able to.
Go to my video game speedrun thread. Tons of proof there.Frankie said:I refuse to believe anyone who says they had no trouble with the seaweed parts. It's like a buddy of mine who claims to have completed Super Ghouls n Ghosts all the way through twice. I'll fucking believe that shit when I see it.

OK, see, that I believe. And yes, you're supposed to walk.ThatNickGuy said:Seriously! I mean, sure, I had troubles with it and had to retry it several times, but I always managed to get through it. It's that fucking mini-jump that always got me.
Because there's always hope?Shegokigo said:For all those saying "I didn't have enough time to finish it", why the would you buy a new game after that?
To me, that's like reading a book and not finishing the last chapter, to instead buy another book and start on that.Andi said:Because there's always hope?
And the time spent with the game, although not being able to finish it, is still worth it?
It's easy. Most people play games simply as something entertaining to do in free time. They don't necessarily give a shit about the story or ending or anything.Fun Size said:I have to say I find this amazing. As someone who plays games for the full experience, including the story (lacking though they may be), I find there are almost no games that I do not finish. Easy. Sales and deals. A solid 60-70% of the games I own were bought on sale, clearance, or just simply super cheap. Or I traded someone for multiple games, and just didn't get around to 1 or 2 of them. When you pay almost nothing for the game, it's easy to buy a game you want to play, but not necessarily play now. So they get shifted behind everything else.Shegokigo said:For all those saying "I didn't have enough time to finish it", why the would you buy a new game after that?
But you don't have to read a page over and over and over again until you get so frustrated you throw the book at the wall.Shegokigo said:To me, that's like reading a book and not finishing the last chapter, to instead buy another book and start on that.Andi said:Because there's always hope?

You do if the author is a fucking idiot and his/her writing makes no sense.Shakey said:But you don't have to read a page over and over and over again until you get so frustrated you throw the book at the wall.Shegokigo said:To me, that's like reading a book and not finishing the last chapter, to instead buy another book and start on that.Andi said:Because there's always hope?

Maybe you should read easier books? :slywink:Shakey said:But you don't have to read a page over and over and over again until you get so frustrated you throw the book at the wall.

I can't fucking stand when games do that. Especially near bosses etc.Joe Johnson said:I have to watch the entire cut-scene if I die? I can't skip past it? FU!
The end of Mass Effect for example. Mid fight. That one bugged me no end. First run through anyway. Second run through the fight wasn't a challenge.Shegokigo said:I can't fucking stand when games do that. Especially near bosses etc.Joe Johnson said:I have to watch the entire cut-scene if I die?
