Girl Genius Thread

#1

Hylian

Hylian

Well since the last Girl Genius thread is now locked I figured I would start a new one.

O.O

Okay I did not see that coming. I will be interested to seeing how Agatha responds here. I mean the last time she saw someone she cared for chopped down in front of her she went absolutely berserk. Also I am interested in seeing how Higg's responds to this latest circumstance.

I believe Higgs will stay out of it as long as he is able to. The only reason he intervened against the Muse was because he was forced to, and even then he kinda downplayed it. Besides, considering we don't know who Higgs is or what he stands for (-I- think he's ether a Heterodyne or family offshoot of such) so it's pointless to speculate at this point.

#3

Shawn

Shawn

I can't at all imagine he'd be a Heterodyne. Such a reveal would leave such gaping plot holes.
The largest of which, I'm sure, would be that the Jaggers would have already known. And he was hanging out in a bar full of them at one point.

#4

Hylian

Hylian

I have been wondering if it is possible that he could be an early attempt at a Jäger and didn't go through a transformation but even that theory would have a lot of plot holes that would need to be fixed.

A Jaegerspark?

#8

Has he ever done anything spark worthy? I've never seen him build anything. He can fight like a maniac. And he knows his way around the castle like he's been there for hundreds of years (IE: He has.). But he's never really shown any interest in machinery or science.

#9

North_Ranger

North_Ranger

... Uh oh. Shit's gonna go down.

#10

Hylian

Hylian

I suppose Higg's could be a "Hulk" version of a Jäger. One that only transforms when he is angry. That could explain why Higg's is so calm all the time.

False. Recall the fight with Otillia. Higgs was able to read her defects from what amounted to little more than a cursory glance. That said, though, I don't believe he actually is some kind of spark. What is more interesting is the matter of how he stayed human - in all appearances, anyway.

Jagers used to be human... so it's entirely possible that he USED to be a Spark before he was changed. Hell, it doesn't even discount my Heterodyne theory.

#13

Wahad

Used to be, yes. But he is obviously different from the usual jaegerkin in that he still looks and sounds like a human in normal situations. So what is different about him that the ''normal'' jaegerkin don't have? I sincerely hope the Foglios will get into this instead of just dismissing it, though given their track record of not explaining what makes jaegers jaegers, I have my doubts.

They did go on record and state that the water running underneath Castle Heterodyne is one of the key ingredients in the Jaegerbrew. Considering what it did to Agatha, that's quite frightening.

#15

AshburnerX

AshburnerX

So... according to the latest comic, the Unstoppable Higgs runs on so much cool that when he gets into a serious fight, he vibrates into a realm of such pure awesome that he can not be seen with the naked eye. Is anyone else not surprised with this?

#16

Hylian

Hylian

I have a weird feeling that Friday's panel will involve Gil in some way but I hope I am wrong cause I want to see Higg's continue to pummel Zola.

#17

Aaaaw come on I want to get back to Higg's smacking Zola around some more.

I do not believe Violetta realizes who she is talking to.

Darn it looks like Higg's is actually taking some serious damage here.

Three feet of sharpened, pointy metal through your sternum can be quite nasty, you know. Unpleasant, even.

I still doubt they'd kill off Higgs. He's far too popular.

I hope Zeetha makes it out alive as well. I dun' wanna see my favourite Skifandrian die :(

#23

While I hope both Higg's and Zeetha make it if it did come down to a choice between the two I would prefer Zeetha to live.

I am a huge Girl Genius fan!

It is my favorite webcomic out there right now. I have the first 8 books signed by the Professors (I haven't been able to afford the rest yet) I also have 2 sketches that Phil did for me when I met him at the Emerald City Comicon (not to mention a bunch of buttons and misc stuff). I am also a mod on a Girl Genius forum.

#27

Emrys

Emrys

I love you and want to have your children.

Do you think the Baron is really dead?

#28

North_Ranger

North_Ranger

It's a bit of a mess, what with a baker's dozen of different sides fighting each other over Mechanicsburg, the Great Hospital is gone, and all that...

I'm willing to bet Klaus ain't dead, though...

#29

North_Ranger

North_Ranger

Off-panel? No way in hell.

No shit he's not. He's not dead until they find his body... and even then they can bring him back!

#31

Hylian

Hylian

While I wouldn't quite put it past the Professors I am leaning towards "no". Now I suppose there is a chance that Klaus could have put himself in danger in hopes of dying so that way the Other wouldn't be able to control him. Now the message he gave Phil ( Oggie's great-great grandson ) can either be seen as a secret message for help or it could have been his suicide note so to speak. But even if he is dead as long as his brain is salvageable they can revive him.

#32

Emrys

Emrys

Who do you think will lose in the current fight - Vole, Gil, or Tarvek?

I'm thinking Vole is going down and Tarvek is going to sacrifice himself so Gil can get away.

#33

Hylian

Hylian

Well we have already seen Gil take down Vole even after being riddled with bullets. Now granted Vole is even more upset now and is more likely to be a bigger threat so there could be some trouble. A quick easy solution would be if Agatha simply took control of that machine again and shook the claw/bridge that Vole is on and knocked him down. But they probably won't go for that solution.

#34

North_Ranger

North_Ranger

Don't forget, they knocked off his hat.

Fecal matter is going to impact upon the oscillating unit.

#35

Emrys

Yeah, I can't wait to see jagermonster rage. This is going to be fun.

#38

Do I dare ask what the big mallet is for?

#39

North_Ranger

North_Ranger

Mmmmm... No.

#40

Hylian

At least we now know why Vole was disowned by the rest of the Jäger's. As far as the taking down Vole goes it would be very fun to see Vole and Gil going all out in a giant fight.

#41

Emrys

Emrys

Vole would definitely benefit from some behaviour modification therapy.

#42

Officer_Charon

Officer_Charon

Applied with a large mallet or three

#43

Emrys

Emrys

I can see Vole on a therapist's couch, clutching a teddy bear and talking about how he was picked on as a little jager.

#44

Emrys

Emrys

And our favourite jagertraitor is going down. If Gil can beat him into submission while barely able to stand, imagine what he's going to do to Vole now.
Of course, he caught Vole by surprise that time, so maybe it'll be more evenly matched this time.
And, Tarvek! Stop doing a jig on the machines, ya ijit!

#45

Hylian

Hylian

Granted Gil is healed now but Vole is more determined /angry than he was before so this should be quite an interesting fight coming up :)

#46

Hylian

Hylian

I knew it wasn't going to be as easy for Gil as he was thinking but I was still hoping he would get a few more licks in before needing to request help.

#47

Emrys

Emrys

Probably Gil got complacent after his last fight with Vole. And as Vole says, Gil did knock his hat off.

#48

Hylian

Hylian

So are these FSMADD's Dingbot controlled?

You know what I am so tired I didn't even notice that the word bubble was coming from off page.

#49

Emrys

Emrys

Ophelia?

#50

Hylian

Hylian

That is my guess

#51

Emrys

Emrys

I can't wait to see Agatha open up a can of whoop-ass on Vole. I think our favourite love-to-hate jagermonster isn't long for this world.

#52

Hylian

Hylian

I imagine Agatha would be all for forgiving Vole (much like Bill and Barry did when Vole tried to kill them) but I don't see how she will even have the chance based off how Vole is behaving.

#53

Emrys

Emrys

Well, we've seen that Vole will let his anger get the better of him (as when he was beating on Gil). And I can imagine Agatha's head exploding if Gil or Tarvek blurt out that Vole tried to kill her poppa und unkle.

Nah, Vole's going down. She's going to feed him to the castle.

#54

Hylian

Hylian

I think he is going down to I just was saying that Agatha seems to be the type who if given the chance would forgive Vole (at least for the attempt on her life)

#55

Emrys

Emrys

Yeah, I can also see Agatha forgiving Vole for trying to kill her.

Now for the big debate - who or what is Higgs?

#56

AshburnerX

AshburnerX

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Higgs was one of the missing Heterodynes. It's not like anyone who's physically met them is still around (ether dead or not present) excluding the Baron and he's never been conscious in the same room as Higgs. Maybe Lucrecia's mind-clones but then they'd likely just keep it to themselves.

The Jagers would have smelt if he was a Hetrodyne unless of course he managed to mask his scent.

#58

AshburnerX

AshburnerX

Well he's not a Jager and he's not some kind of automaton, so it comes down to ether being a Heterodyne or some kind of juiced up agent of someone's.

#59

Emrys

Emrys

Yay, it's Ophelia! And Krosp! Hy lurve Krosp!

#60

Hylian

Hylian

I know this is may sound crazy but I wonder if since the FSMADD's are kinda cat like if that means Krosp is their leader given he was made to be the Emperor of all cats.

#61

Emrys

Emrys

That would be cool and I'm sure that's what Krosp was hoping for, but it appears that it's not to be. Poor Krosp.

AshburnerX

Go, Violetta!
She's stuck him with like 5 daggers in that picture. She doesn't have the power to hurt him seirously.

Actually, has a Jager EVER been seriously hurt in Girl Genius? I'd imagine nothing short of a cannon or one of those big ass Clank guns from the first chapter would put one down...

#66

Emrys

Emrys

Most of them look like they're in the shoulder muscle, with only one in his head. And let's face it, that's not where Vole keeps his brains.

Clouseau's houseboy Cato was instructed to attack him to keep his skills sharp. With hilarious results.

#71

Hylian

Hylian

So who do you think is yelling "Gil"?

I have a feeling it is Agatha but I suppose it could be anyone really. Of course the reason why they are yelling "Gil" still remains. If it is Agatha do you think she is shocked to see Gil acting this way and is trying to get his attention or do you think it is some other person/reason?

#72

Emrys

Emrys

I can't remember - has Agatha seen Gil mad-out before now?
I'm thinking that Agatha is trying to get his attention, as in "stop playing with your new toy and let's deal with the attack!". Though it might be Tarvek/Theo/Violetta/et al doing the same thing.

#73

Hylian

Hylian

I believe the only times she has seen to Gil get angry was when she first met him in Beetlesburg when Gil flipped out over the design of the chalk to cheese machine. And than again on Castle Wulfenbach when Othar was escaping and attacked Gil/tried "rescuing" Agatha.

#74

Hylian

Hylian

Well I do believe that Gil will have agree that that's a very good "something" to fight for.

Also as soon as I read the comic I have had the following song stuck in my head

#75

Emrys

How did you get it so early? It's not up on the website yet!

They sometimes will have a b at the end but not always

You can set it to a future date and if they have uploaded onto the site you can view it

Usually they only upload the comic a few minutes/hours early but sometimes they upload it couple of days in advance.

#82

Hylian

Hylian

I have noticed that Gil seems to have a much easier time controlling himself when he enters his "madness state". He seems to have the easiest time (at least compared to the sparks we have seen) slipping into and out of the madness state.

#83

Emrys

Emrys

Perhaps his father taught him emotional control as part of his grooming to take over the empire, or Gil doesn't enter the madness state as deeply as other Sparks. What would look like an 8 on other Sparks is only a 4 for him, which would be a scary thing to see when he finally does lose it.

#84

Hylian

Hylian

Well Gil did say that his father taught him some mental exercises that allow him to stay awake for a few days so maybe they also allow him to better control his madness state.

#85

AshburnerX

AshburnerX

Isn't Gil rumored to be the son of someone from Skifander (the resident Amazonian knock-off)? Maybe his craziness is why the Skifanders don't keep their men around...

#86

Hylian

Hylian

Well there is a rumor that Gil and Zeetha are siblings and that would make Gil half Skifandrian but of course that is pure fan speculation at the moment.

I have been hoping that the hat would make a triumphant return :D

But I have to wonder when they had the time to fix the spelling on the hat. If you will recall they had spelled "Gilgamesh" with an "e" instead of an "a" but now it has been fixed.

#98

Hylian

Hylian

I find it interesting that Krosp did not get knocked out by the doom bell. Is it because he is not human or is it for some other reason? At first I thought maybe it was sparks that didn't get knocked out but than I realized that would be rather ineffective as a weapon. And when we saw several sparks pass out I realized for sure it did affect them.

So now I am pondering on just what makes it so certain people pass out and others do not. We already know that the "dead" are unaffected so just how does this bell work? We know that the Jäger's are not affected by the bell. So there is the possibility that it attacks certain parts of the brain and unless said parts are sufficiently strong enough (or sufficiently different enough) the bell would overload them and they would pass out? Now if it is done that way I have to wonder if something near Mechanicsburg helps pass on this "change/strengthening".

I suppose that maybe the Heterodynes could have a genetic predisposition towards whatever this immunity is and than maybe the townsfolk picked up something from the remaining dyne water which could indicate that the water is not quite as benign as once suspected (unless of course it is a closely guarded secret, that way their enemies would not be able to acquire the water as away to build an immunity. Now if it is something along that line it would stand to reason that Klaus would know about it and would have built an immunity into Gil. But once again this will all remain speculation until further facts have been presented forward.
