Goals for 2012?

DarkAudit

DarkAudit

Not resolutions, 'cause resolutions are so last decade. This is for stuff you'd like to accomplish over the next 12 months, and no one is going to beat you over the head and neck if you don't quite make it all the way through. The points are for making the effort.

A few of mine...

Listen to all of the Rolling Stone 500 greatest albums. It's not enough to put iTunes on play while I do other things around the house. I mean putting each album on with the stated intent of listening to it.

See a MLB game in a stadium other than PNC Park.

Attend more than one Pens game by season's end.

Visit the Air & Space Museum annex at Dulles Airport.

Get the front porch roof fixed without taking out a loan.

Clear out the old office room and turn into a listening room.

More to come as I think of them.

Listen to Now That's What I Call Music CDs from the years of my life and recalling the memories I associate with the popular songs of that year.

I would assume I have more goals but your "listen to albums" one made me think of that one.

Be alive and hairy on Dec 31st, 2012.

Also, to use the pick-up line "Look, the world's gonna end on Dec 23rd anyway, so how about you and me get it on?"

Write a second novel, if I have time (likely not, due to school and then my practicum).

Read more books.

Lose the 30 pounds I've gained over the last year. :(

Do better in school. I had a good gpa but that was only because two professors decided to give very generous curves. I don't want to have to rely on that again.

The best thing about being a teacher is that it makes you very aware that you need to set very specific goals that are easily tracked. Here are my goals; I actually set them about a month and a half ago, but I'll restate them here for the new year!

1. I figure I can read at least one chapter of a book every night, no matter how busy things get. I never want to stop reading once I start, so often I just put a book aside and promised myself I'd read it on the weekend. Every day--one chapter. If I have time for more, I can read more, but that is where I start. I read a lot over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, and I want to keep my good momentum going!

2. I will resume my calorie counting (I kept working out, but quit watching what I ate for a while). I want to lose about 7-10 more pounds before the wedding. I will do at least 20 minutes of cardio every day and will not exceed the calorie limit I have set. I've been the same weight for about 5 months now, and while I'm glad I haven't gained, I'm ready to move forward again.

3. I will put my clothes away immediately after I remove them from the dryer instead of leaving them on my bed. (This is getting ridiculous. For the first time in months all my clothes are in the proper place in my room. I'm like a child...)

4. I will set aside at least 2 minutes every day for quiet reflection on whatever I need to focus on at that moment. I was happier and much more calm when I remembered to do this.

5. Before May, I will do at least two science activities with my godchild.

I keep meaning to mention this when you've been posting pics lately, but I wanted to say you're looking fantastic.

3. I will put my clothes away immediately after I remove them from the dryer instead of leaving them on my bed. (This is getting ridiculous. For the first time in months all my clothes are in the proper place in my room. I'm like a child...)
This makes me feel better because now I know it's not just us. I used to be very diligent about putting clothes away the day they were cleaned, but in the last couple of months we've gotten into the habit of leaving them lying in laundry baskets to the point where we're getting new clothes from those instead of our drawers, and hiding the baskets in the bedroom closet when company comes over. It's gotten silly.

Thank you! I'm thrilled to have traded sore knees and back problems for energy and size 10 jeans. I don't think I ever posted pics here of me at my heaviest, but it's been a crazy change.

I'm so glad to know that other adults do this! We can keep track on each other through the year. No more wrinkled shirts and dresses draped over chairs in the new year! :p

Pretty much repeat my 2011 with some changes:

This is the year I qualify for the promotion into BSA (Back Securities) dept. This was my goal from day one of joining the bank and I will NOT go into detail as to why.

Lose the vanity weight I've been fighting with back and forth.

Restock my completely depleted FWB contact list.

Otherwise it's more Drinking/Smoking/Casual Sex/Working/Gaming this year.

1.) Join a martial arts studio with my wife. Gotta set up some baby-sitting to get that done. -> Increase fitness.
2.) Write at least 300 words a day of something. Fiction and research are both options.
3.) Related to number 2: Submit at least 2 journal articles for consideration. The goal is to have at least one published by the end of the year.
4.) Re-learn Java so that I can write code for Android devices. That is really a goal for this week, actually.
5.) Read something every day!
6.) Write and submit one grant, probably one that gives the department money to improve some classroom/research space.
7.) Manage my time better so I can get all of the above done!

1) Lose 40 pounds by July.
2) Re-enlist in the Corps
2.5) If re-enlistment is no longer an option (the way it's starting to look like it might be), move to Alabama and get on with a department there.
3) Re-invigorate my work ethic.
4) Start saving up for the next baby, whenever he/she might be in the works.

@Frankie: It's because I talk with all of my friends who've been deployed, who've been in the military, and I realize that what I contributed was absolutely nothing by comparison. I feel as though I have far more to give of myself, and I would like to do it while I'm still physically able to.

After I've served the remainder of my time, I'll come back to law enforcement. I love this as a career, but I'd like it to be my second career, you know?

But not with this department... the politics are crippling.

  • I'd say more sex but considering the amount of sex I had in 2011 that might be a hard goal to reach.
  • Work on my sexual bucket list.
  • Acquire more gothy clothes.
  • Vlog & blog more.
  • Survive surgery.

No idea who that is, so I had to Google it. I don't really have an inclination to listen to some ex porn star ramble on about sex, though. But thanks for the advice. :p
They answer listener questions, but what made me think of it was that listeners also send in their sexual bucket lists (or "Fucket Lists"), which are read on air. It might give you some ideas is all.

Sadly, no. My boss has one more project for me. It should take about a month to do, and then a couple of weeks to hopefully write up. Then, I can start the dissertation. I've been writing a lot lately, so hopefully, I can knock it out rather quickly.

Any Post-doc advice? I don't want to teach. I will if I have to. I don't want to write grants, at all. I like to do bench work, and I want a steady paycheck - that's it. My wife has another year (at least). I was thinking of doing a short post-doc in that time, in a slightly different field. I do environmental microbial ecology, and there's a dude nearby that looks at bacteria associated with oral disease. Also, there's a ton of lab tech type positions out there that pay more than grad pay.

Actually go through and get rid of all the clothes I never wear, especially since I finally got sick of watching the numbers on the scale go up and started losing weight, so I'm going to need to buy new clothes soon anyways. ;)

- Do P90x exercise program
- Eat healthier than last year (shouldn't be hard)
- Find a martial art studio nearby that will work with my limited time
- Write a fantasy novel
- Paint at least half of my unpainted warhammer 40k miniatures (HAHAHA! Not going to happen)
- Fix my damn sports car
- Finish painting the basment
- Play Mass Effect 3
- Put clothes from dryer away in closet! (Yes, I am guilty of this as well)

  • Lose another 20 pounds. Goal is between 195-200.
  • Pick up more French. Going to Monaco in March and Paris in September to 'help'
  • Get a baby finally. Damn slow adoptions.
  • Complete 3 courses towards second degree. That would bring me to 12 of 20.
  • Survive downsizing at company
  • Be a better boss
  • Fill up rainy day savings to 6 months salary. Don't buy a new car with it.
  • Break up Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake. (Scarlett and Ryan successfully broken up in 2011)

- Read a book a month
- Lose a pound a week for a whole year again like I did two years ago and failed last year.
- Write either a game or a script for it
- Finish my sports prediction system before March Madness
- Earn a MS certification as a DBA of some type
- More attention to and from wife

Some of these sound contradictory.

- Find some new books to read
- Move out of shit-hole neighborhood. There was a massive narcotics raid on our apartment complex last night and I swear to god half the vice agents in the county were there.
- Continue eating right and working out. I want to be the fastest ex-diabetic that ever ex-ed.
- Learn more about business intelligence and move toward making that my new career, instead of just shipping dead people's account data to their next of kin.
- Travel more.
- Go camping for the first time in years.

Already talking to my higher ups about my new entitlements to new positions and my interest in the the BSA position. Had a mini-interview and went swimmingly.

Lose the vanity weight I've been fighting with back and forth.
Haven't done a damn thing about this besides eat a little better and not eat past 8pm.

Restock my completely depleted FWB contact list.
Added 3 people from work, 1 one of them pretty hot but married, might see if there are any angles to work there.

Otherwise it's more Drinking/Smoking/Casual Sex/Working/Gaming this year.
Doing all 4 of those pretty much as consistantly as I expected.

Well, my goals for 2012 are pretty much a continuation of my 2011 goals, which include, but are not limited to, moving to a new city and making new friends, getting a job and curtailing my debt. It's been shaky, especially after moving out of my sister's place in the fall, and my credit card debt has only gone up, up, up, but I just got a promotion to a teaching position on the LD side of the building--and about 20k extra salary to go with the new digs--so that's pretty awesome.

So now, I guess, my goals are to finally curb that credit card debt, fix my shabby wardrobe, and start making new friends that aren't just girls I'm dating and their circle of friends.

-Clothes piled up for a couple of days, but then I got it under control again. It's going to be a battle, but I intend to win.

-I missed one night of reading a chapter, but something more interesting came up, and I do not regret missing that one night. I read two chapters the following day and have not missed one since.

- I adjusted my calorie counting goal. To be honest, it's not working for me like it used to. Last week I just ate when I was hungry and stopped when I wasn't anymore. It felt good to get back to listening to my body instead of looking at a number on a screen, so I'm going to do that instead. I still intend to keep my workout schedule and fill the house with healthy food. If I lose, great. Truth is, I'm more concerned with toning than any weight change, so I'll focus on that. If I lose while I'm at it, great. If I don't and I start to feel more sluggish/less healthy, I'll change things up.

Made Ya Blush

My list is short: Learn to skate, snowboard, and get the event company I work for new clients, take some time for myself.

I've been out skating a half dozen times and I've gotten better, I still can't do a cross over when skating, but I haven't fallen yet and can get some speed. I've been snowboarding with my boyfriend once this year and managed to make it down the baby hill a few times with out any major incident. Only really fell one time.
