Leading lady is usually reserved for people that actually lead /star in things. Did you mean maybe Kristen Bell? Or Cameron Diaz?

Good gravy, that took me completely by surprise. So I immediately had to get my sister to watch, she loved it too.

Loved the hell out of this movie. Now have a special version of Forget You in my head and may be singing it in the mall. The way it was sung in the movie...

#116

ThatNickGuy

ThatNickGuy

I just got back from it. I was giggling through the whole thing with pure, child-like glee. They captured The Muppets perfectly, including the story structure of the movies (yet managing to do their own thing even with winks and references).

There was even one point I was openly weeping, right when...oop, hang on. Lemme spoiler tag this..

When the curtains opened and Kermit started strumming "Rainbow Connection" on his banjo.

Seriously, I say this with every genuine bit of my heart (which, for those of you that know me by now, is all of my heart)...GO. SEE. THIS. MOVIE. If you had any doubts about it, clear them. If you have high expectations, keep them. If, for some crazy reason, you had no plans on seeing it...GO. SEE IT. Please.

I'm going to see it again this weekend while I'm in New Brunswick visiting friends and family.

#117

checkeredhat

checkeredhat

I can't praise it enough. It lives up to and surpasses all my expectations. I can't remember the last time I laughed so much during a movie in theatres, or had this positive a theatre experience either. And any time I wasn't laughing out loud, I just had the biggest grin on my face.
There were a few parts where I was close to tearing up a bit, most notably the spoiler that Nick already posted.
I'm probably going to see it again in theatres. There are very few movies I've paid for theatre tickets twice to see, but I would happily pay to see this again.

But yes, the jist of it is this: GO SEE THE MOVIE.

Hey now, I never said I didn't like the movie. It was about as excellent as a movie-going experience can go. Had a bunch of beers and a full thing of popcorn and I was giggling the whole time. But just because seeing a bunch of my old childhood friends making jokes makes me happy, a good MOVIE makes it not. The best way I can describe it is, is it's like going to see one of your favorite old bands. They play the set, it's not as great as you remember it, but it's another good memory. Doesn't mean I'm going to go buy the concert DVD, doesn't mean I'm going to keep going to their shows.

Hailey Knight

Also, just saw the movie this morning and I kinda see what Juski is saying in the sense that it was an experience. Quality of the movie though? For me, that was perfect. They hit everything they should've referenced and it felt like a pure Muppet movie. I was surprised at how great the audience was for a Sunday morning crowd. I've never heard applause from a matinee audience, ever. It was also amusing when the theater would be quiet but for the sound of adults chuckling while all the kids were silent, having not gotten whatever joke was going on. For the most part though, kids were into it to. There was a lot of "Mahna Mahna" going through the audience as people left the theater at the end.
There were so many great jokes and moments. Also, Chris Cooper was something else.
Added at: 17:11
what's a Fade joke :( and yeah, that punk makes me more angry than a...than a yak in heat.
Fade's gotten a reputation as the guy who doesn't like things, even though he actually likes many things. It's become a running joke for an overgeneralization...
...That I will confess here, I'm the one who started it. I was being snippy back when we had the old approve/disapprove system and the comments were anonymous, and I was marking certain posts of Fade's as disapprove, with comments about he didn't like anything, because he criticized the look of a certain cosplayer who is beyond criticism. No one else would've known, except he made a post about it, and then it became a thing.
It feels good to have that off my chest.

#158

So this movie was rated PG because....Sex, nudity, violence and gore.

Seriously.
Somewhere there's a slasher film with a G-rating.

A young man flings open a door, smashing a muppet behind it; the muppet slinks out from behind the doorway, unharmed. Several muppets cram into a large suit; they walk unsteadily through a room, accidentally knocking into a lamp until they fall to the ground (the muppets climb out of the suit unharmed).
So violent!

A muppet dramatically shouts and runs away, we see a muppet-sized hole in the wall and then see that the muppet is unharmed.
...This started silly and now it's getting insulting.

Jason Segel on Frank Oz:
"I saw his comments, which made me sad. But he hadn't seen the movie yet. I just have no doubt that when he sees the movie, he'll be really proud of all of us. I'm not particularly worried about it. I wish he had seen the movie before he made his comments, but I understand being nervous about some new blood coming in that you don't know and kind of taking over something that you created. But I think he's going to be really proud of this movie."

BananaHands

In my opinion, the movie was very well done. I used to rent the Muppet Show from the 70s when I was a kid and I felt that it reminded me of the show a lot more than the movies.

Although I loved the Kermit and Fozzie looking up at the stars and reflecting scene, that was usually in the movies, right?

My ONLY complaint is that there was more people singing than muppets singing. I could have done without the rap... but still... that's just a minor complaint.

I could have done without the rap... but still... that's just a minor complaint.
fuck you. Chris Cooper needs to come beat your ass. That rap was awesome.

That Rap was like a drive by! It hit and was over so fast that I had no idea what to think...THEN I laughed!

On second thought, I liked how different it was from the Muppets singing. So yeah. I also like the "Just because I have a evil mane and a dastardly british accent...."

I'm just saying, you don't want Chris Cooper on your badside. He's the guy you go to when your movie's protagonist's friend needs a shitty dad.

Breaking Dawn beat it to number one for the weekend, and I'm really hoping this is a real comeback for the Muppets rather than a swan song.

Fuckin' Twihards.

Frank

Frankie Williamson

Breaking Dawn may have been number 1, but it was number 2 at 30 million, which is wholly respectable going up against such competition.

And people are actually liking the Muppets.

I have no doubt the Muppets have done well enough that they'll milk the series for at least one more. Let the Twilight punks do their thing.

Also, there wasn't a scene in The Muppets that caused seizures.

WHY WOULD YOU TAKE A CHILD THAT YOUNG TO THAT MOVIE?

"I'd heard that people were having seizures and my son has seizures, but he was fine watching the movie."

OH MY GOD!

Not going to lie, the rap bothered me at first. However, they saved it by pointing it out right after, which made me actually appreciate it.

It shamed me a little that when deciding what to watch, The Muppets won over Puss in Boots with the kids purely on my argument of "fart shoes".

It was too close.

The 80s robot bit that made me laugh the most was how he kept offering New Coke. I wasn't even around for that whole thing in the 80s but that was hilarious to me anyway.

He also offered Tab. :D

What killed me was when he said "Gag me with a spoon." That's an obscure 80's reference.

The Tab thing I didn't get.
Shoppers Drug Mart was still selling Tab like 3 years ago. Its an 80s thing?

When's the last time you saw a comercial for Tab?

In the 80, they were EVERYWHERE.

I think they tried to bring it back 3 years ago or something. But it's why the joke in Back to the Future is dated, when he asks for a Tab.

They were faking seizures, just to get out of the theater...
Kind of like waking up with a wolf ugly woman.

See but that joke still works, because Tab is still around, so its a simple joke of "he ordered something from the present that didn't exist in the past".

Looked it up, the Tab that's available now is an energy drink and not the same thing even though its the same name and logo.

QQ some more, Fox News.

When I heard what they were doing for the movie's antagonist, I thought "Ha! Classic Muppet villain." Not because they've done it before, but because it's so archetypical that you can't take it seriously.

Unless you're a moron.

An anti-liberal story on FOX? I, for one, am shocked. Shocked, I say.
Added at: 20:55
Right, so, after actually watching this whole thing, my forehead is throbbing in agony from slamming it onto my desk. Not only are the conclusions completely irrational, spiteful, and finger pointing, but the only rational person in that clip (the blonde woman whose name escapes me) was calm and collected while the other two kept cutting her off and yelling at her.
Fox News: classy journalism.

I freaking LOVED this movie. It hit me on so many levels of nostalgia and the songs were AWESOME! But I'm not sure if "Man or Muppet" should have won the Oscar. In my opinion it was "Pictures in my head". How could the sad Kermit song NOT win the Oscar?

A new Muppet Christmas special on tv? The CW suggests that it is happening this year.

#207

They haven't had a good TV Christmas special since Muppet Family Christmas.
"It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas" sucked, "A Muppet Christmas: Letters to Santa" sucked, this one will most likely suck.

They've been doing great with YouTube skits, and the latest muppet movie. It's worth hoping.
