I wish the U.S. would stop pouring billions into protecting Israel and let them defend themselves already. I'm kinda sick of my taxes going towards the genocide of Palestinians and paying for the lifestyles of citizens of another country.
The guy gets publicly humiliated. The excuse is 'we were going to announce the building contract two weeks later, despite the U.S. completely against it.' And everything's all chummy. Combined with the recent years of flat out genocide and conspiracy by the Israelis they are slowly becoming the next wave of the Third Reich.US has no better friend than Israel'

Biden says he accepts PM's stance on Ramat Shlomo building plan.

US Vice President Joe Biden tried to put the furor over announcement of plans to build 1,600 units in Ramat Shlomo behind him, saying during a speech Thursday at Tel Aviv University that he condemned the move because as a friend he was compelled to \"deliver the hardest truth,\" but adding that he appreciated the clarifications he received on the matter from Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyhau.
He opened the speech by stressing the importance of US-Israel friendship and Washington's commitment to the security of the Jewish state, saying that \"US President Barack Obama and myself know that the US has no better friend in the community of nations than Israel.\"
Biden said that he realized that construction in east Jerusalem \"is a very touchy subject in Israel,\" but because Israel's decision to advance the housing project, in his view, \"undermined the trust required to conduct the negotiations, I – at the request of President Obama – condemned it immediately.\"
After pausing for a moment to listen to the applause that accompanied these words, Biden explained how he, \"such a strong supporter of Israel,\" could speak out so strongly.
\"Quite frankly, folks, only a friend can deliver the hardest truth,\" he said.
\"I appreciate, by the way, the response given by the Prime Minister, who today is putting in place a process to prevent the recurrence that sort of event, and who clarified that the beginning of actual construction of this particular project would likely take several years. That is significant, because it gives negotiations the time to resolve this as well as other issues.\"
Biden said that the announcement of the plan was interpreted in the West Bank as meaning that the 1,600 units would be constructed immediately.
\"Look, folks, as we move on, I promise you this, the US will continue to hold both sides accountable for any statements or any actions that will inflame tension or prejudice the actions of these talks,\" the US vice president said.
Just prior to Biden's speech, the Prime Minister's Office, in what was apparently a move coordinated with the US, put out a statement saying that Netanyahu summoned \"Interior Minister Eli Yishai and expressed his displeasure at the timing of the announcement of another stage in the planning process of a Jerusalem building project.\"
\"In light of the ongoing disagreement between Israel and the US on building in Jerusalem,\" the statement read, Netanyahu \"said there was no need to advance the planning process this week and instructed Interior Minister Yishai to adopt procedures to prevent such an incident from recurring.\"
According to the statement, Netanyahu spoke to Biden and \"expressed his regret over the unfortunate timing. The Prime Minister informed the Vice President that this specific project had moved through various planning stages over several years. The final approval process will in all likelihood take more than a year and the beginning of actual construction would likely take several years.\"
Regarding the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, the US vice president called for a two-states solution, saying that peace with Palestinians is \"profoundly\" in Israel's interest, and stressing that Washington is committed to Israel's security.
\"From my experience, the one precondition for progress is that the rest of the world knows this - there is no space between the US and Israel when it comes to security - none. That's the only time that progress has been made,\" he said.
Biden went on to say that the \"status-quo is not sustainable,\" because Israel could not remain a Jewish state while the Arab population continues to grow and a Palestinian state has not been established.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and PA Prime Minister Salam Fayyad are both real partners for peace, Biden said, urging Israel to seize the opportunity to achieve real peace with the Palestinians.
Biden also shared some memories from his first visit to Israel as a young senator in 1973, when he met with then-Prime Minister Golda Meir and with Yitzhak Rabin.
The US vice president said Meir told him that Israel's secret weapon in its against the Arab states was that \"we have nowhere else to go.\"
Biden told the audience they must \"make no mistake about America's resolve\" in its fight against terrorism and against the Iranian nuclear program.
He said that the Islamic republic has grown more dangerous in the last decade, with Iran funding and supporting Hizbullah and Hamas, and \"intimidating both its neighbors and its own people.\"
America was determined to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, Biden said.
\"May God protect you and may God protect Israel,\" the US vice president concluded.

We need Israel to be our "loose cannon" so we can appease the middle east by looking to be the only thing holding them back. Plus, when the defecation inevitably hits the oscillation in that area of the world, they really will be our best friends... and they'll also be able to do things that need to be done that we are unable or unwilling to do for PR reasons.
And frankly, the plight of the palestinians is as much the fault of the surrounding arab countries than the israelis. The arabs refusal to allow palestinians to immigrate or be absorbed because it serves THEIR purposes to have a "look at those poor victims of the evil zionists" placard to wave.

Not to mention that maybe Israel wouldn't have to be so harsh to the Palestinians if they didn't go out and kill Israelis every chance they got.And frankly, the plight of the palestinians is as much the fault of the surrounding arab countries than the israelis. Well, you do have to take into account the initial displacement of the palestinians by the creation of israel... but yes, that problem would have gone away decades ago if it didn't suit the arab agenda to have a perpetual palestinian crisis.

I agree that everyone is at fault in this situation, but the people getting completely screwed are in fact the Palestinians. I just find it ironic for a state founded by outcasts and people on the verge of genocide about 60 years to being doing the exact same things to another group.

Oh come on. For every one Israeli killed, the Palestinians get it back 100 fold. It's much more to the advantage of the other Arab states to maintain the status quo, so they don't have to do a damn thing to fix what's rotten in their own countries. Easier to distract the populace by yelling ISRAEL! whenever one group or another gets too uppity about internal matters.

The point I'm trying to make is that it's really hypocritical on Israel's part to do what they do to the Palistinians. I'm not saying they should just lie down and take it, but throwing up a big 'fuck you' to everyone and building in Jerusalem is a dick move. I'm sick of my taxes going towards funding such things, arms sales, and generally going towards the lifestyles of people in another country; it seems Israel has forgotten that they need the U.S. a hell of a lot more than the U.S. needs Israel.It's much more to the advantage of the other Arab states to maintain the status quo, so they don't have to do a damn thing to fix what's rotten in their own countries. Just remember that it wasn't like when Israel was created that they rounded up arabs and started expelling them. More like the "palestinians" we see now got out of the way of everybody else in the area trying to invade. And then when Israel won, they didn't like not being allowed back in the new borders that they wanted to get out of the line of fire, rather than defend the land. Hence why there's still a significant percentage of people of Arab descent in Israel, and even in the government there. Those people stayed, the others WANTED the "jews dead" there.
And all the other stuff about people NOT being allowed into every other country around there is true too. The borders are closed.

Egypt attacked Israel in 1967 and in 1973. Egypt hates Israel with a passion. Jerusalem is a city. Which as a result of both the six day war and the yom kippur war the eastern half belongs to Israel. So yeah, they recognized it as part of a war treaty.Heh, I was confused by Egypt too. I always thought Egypt was the first nation in the area to recognize Jerusalem as a legitimate country.

The peace between Egypt and Israel is often called the "cold" peace because it amounts to nothing else than not shooting at each other.
And yeah, the Egyptian gvt does not like Israel any more than any other arab gvt. There have been 5 or 6 wars between the 2 countries and Egypt lost all of them. Egypt uses this state of peace to leverage its power in the area and it works. It's also interesting to note that Egypt's relevance in the middle easts is at its best when Israel's government hovers on the right side.
However, they (egyptians) know perfectly well that in case of betrayal, they would be the first anihilated by Israel's alpha strike. So they're promoting the status quo while their right wing hopes that Iran or Saudi Arabia will do the job eventually.
