Okay, we now have the vBCredits, vBShop and a few other things which I have been waiting for. Ame is working hard on the front page and hopefully will soon be putting Alfie up on the front page. This has been a royal bitch to get get going. A lot harder than we thought. But it'll be worth it!

When we get this ready to go I'm going to do the following things:


  1. Reset everyone's HalBucks to 100.
  2. Make everyone's name/style the same so that to customize it they will have to buy it.
  3. Reset all Triple Triad cards - Right now anyone can buy pretty much any deck.
  4. Reset all arcade scores - Drifter is going to hate this one!

Basically there were things when I was working on the mods that did things like double the money people had, etc. So all of the prices I've set are whacked. This will level the playing field.

There are a few things that have been allowed to be done normally that people will have to pay for - like changing names or avatars. I do this because it's confusing when people do it and if they want to they have to pay.

Coming to the mod soon will be the ability to steal points. I've already created two groups called "Criminals" and "Witness Protection". The Criminals will be able to steal for a lower price and be better at it, but they won't be able to protect themselves very well. Witness Protection will be able to cheaply block any changes to their accounts but won't be able to steal or change anyone else cheaply. Basically it'll be just for fun.

I am going to have something where people can change other people's avatars but it's going to cost a LOT - like HB25,000.

Also, I'm going to be changing permissions such as PM limit and things like that. If you want to allow more PMs in your box you can pay for it with HalBucks.

Last, I'm going to be locking down the Wretched Hive. It's going to be completely hidden. BUT! People will be able to buy access. Why? Because I'm going to open it up a bit. It's been underused and I'm seriously thinking of allowing harsher stuff. Locking it down will stop it from being seen by anyone and would stop it from showing up in What's New unless they bought the ability to go there.

The Reboot is complete. Here's what was done:


  1. All PMs have been removed and the PM max you can have has been drastically reduced to 10 from like 1000. We were using a lot of space and I'm trying to keep it reasonable. If you feel you need more you can buy more space in the Hal Shoppe.
  2. The Arcade scores have been reset. I plan on doing this every six months or so. The arcade still keeps all-time high scores so don't worry about losing that amazing game you had that one time.
  3. The Triple Triad decks have been redone totally. Random games are gone and all player's decks have been reset. I'll soon be adding more decks including a Pokemon deck I'm working on.
  4. All HalBucks have been reset to 100. Because of a few implementation errors the amount you had before had doubled and doubled again. Anyone was able to buy pretty much anything they wanted and I'd have had to set the prices for stuff so high new people wouldn't have been able to buy anything.
  5. The Hal Shoppe is now open for business! Come buy some stuff for yourself, others or just grab a gift or two. Hal Stuff -> Hal Shoppe

Fixed. Something is going on with Registered Users unable to do stuff like minimize boards or the ShoutBox. And it seems to ONLY be Registered Users. I don't know what setting changed but I haven't been able to find it.

Look at it this way, you can NEVER have less than 100 HB. If you do, simply go to the Gameroom and bet everything you have, losing. The system will immediately give you 100 HB. I did this for 2 reasons.

1) Changing User titles needs to be cheap so you can change it if some jerk changes yours to something you don't like.
2) You can still enjoy the Gameroom and stuff without having to spam threads.

I realize that this is open to abuse by doing things like sending all your HB to someone, having it give 100, etc. But if you're that desperate knock yourself out.

Yes, but only the giving of reputation. I don't think you can get points for GETTING rep at this time.

Edit: You can so I added it.

Giving rep = 5 HB for the giver, whether positive or negative.
Getting rep = 5 HB regardless of positive or negative then add or subtract HB depending on how much was given.

Example:

Person A gives Person B positive rep to the tune of 4 points. Person A gets 5 HB and Person B gets 9 HB (5 + 4 points).
Person A gives Person B negative rep to the tune of -4 points. Person A gets 5 HB and Person B gets 1 HB (5 - 4 points).

You don't set it, it's automatic depending on your rep power which is decided by your current rep and join date and number of posts and penis size.

The amount of rep you give or take away has to do with your "Rep Power" which I think is gotten from your post count, rep and time registered on the site. So you don't specify the number of points.

I'm sorry, I know I'm relatively unknown here and don't carry a lot of clout, but when I think about this from the perspective of a brand new member, isn't all of this just a tad bit gimmicky? ... I was reading about it and, if anything, the annoying restriction on doing something as simple as changing an avatar detracts from my desire to come here to post as opposed to other forums which offer more freedom. Again, this is from the perspective of a "new" member. I just don't have a place in any cliques here yet, and as such feel no desire to show loyalty to a place where in order to change my avatar (which I like to do from time to time) I have to post needlessly just to rack up points to do so.

*shrug* Just a thought.

You are supposed to be able to replenish your halbucks back to 100 after you have spent them all but I havent been able to accomplish that yet.

Also what about when new people sign up will they have to pay to put up their first avatar or will they have to wait until they accumulate enough to get it. Avatars are one of those things I think should not cost halbucks to change. Just my 2 cents

Have any of you even tried to change your avatars since I put the Shoppe in? Avatars aren't a part of it yet. I wasn't going to add them until they could separate changing yours and changing others. Here's how I see it happening:

Changing your own avatar - ridiculously cheap.
Changing someone else's avatar - ridiculously expensive.
Immunity from someone changing your avatar - medium price.

But none of that is there yet.

As to going under 100, the Gameroom resets you to 100 if you lose it all. But you have to be in the Gameroom. Go to Fun & Games -> Gameroom. Open up blackjack or something and lose it all. BAM! Gameroom sets you up with 100.

Might I suggest that basic changes that only affect your own profile (changing your avatar, name, title, etc.) be free/super cheap, while messing with other people's stuff stay expensive? I think it would please a lot of the occasional users who are concerned about the cost and time it would take to do things which were previously free.

To a person who sees he has 1000HB and would need to spend 100 to change an avatar, he's probably not going to think "ten times is a lot" but rather "ten times only?"

This change wouldn't affect the lurkers, but rather would affect the people who come across the forum and think of joining and becoming an active member. To the uninitiated, who have no idea what HalBucks are, the idea of needing to spend something for basic forum functions would probably be a turn-off.

I'm throwing my hat in with the folks that say basic forum functions such as avatar changes should be free. Not for the benefit of the veterans, but for the new guys.

Right now nobody can do anything to anyone else as we can't track it. But things like changing avatars will be very, very cheap - like 10 HB. This way it's actually EASIER for new people to change it if they wish.

Right now my only issue has to do with the theft thing sending messages out as PMs instead of notifications.

But right now I'm out of town and typing from a hotel wi-fi so I'll answer more later.

I like the addition of the bank. You can put halbucks in, and let it gain interest for those who are against the idea of posting/tagging/ lifting a finger to get them. Changing your own avatar or user title should remain cheap/free but what if after someone changes yours, you have the option to change yours back for free? Would that be possible? That way changing someone else's stuff could be cheaper.
