I find myself in possession of enough money to be able to purchase a game. But I don't know which to get.

Dragon Age II?

Portal II?

Witcher II?

Do I wait for Diablo III?

Are there any indie games out there I should look at instead?

It has to be a computer game, not a console game. Give me some ideas.

Minecraft is an interesting animal for me. I like it and have been playing the single player game enough, but when I get on our server I really find that I have not much to do. The grand plans in my head are as nothing compared to what's already there. I don't have the level of creativity it takes to just build big things.

Once monsters get turned back on & I will be able to build things like dungeons then I'll be back. Or when the game is totally released.

LA Noire is a great game. Dragon age 2 was ok, but overall a disappointment. Portal 2 is great, and you can find it cheap.

Can you narrow down what kind of game you like?

Portal 2 is amazing, but at this point it's not worth paying full price, IMO. You're either avoiding spoilers well enough, or you've already had it spoiled, so you might as well wait for a sale. In about a month Steam will likely have it's big summer sale from the end of June through July 4th. Almost any game you could want will be at the best discount you'll likely see for months.

Grab something cheap to tide you over, and then grab the big games on sale. (Today Far Cry 2 is on sale. Some people didn't like it, but once I got into the game I loved how badass it made me feel. For $5 I'd say it's a good filler game, but there a lot of options in the <$10 range.)

Love RPGs. Oblivion was one of my all-time favorites. I love the open world thing. Currently playing WoW and FO3: NV a lot. I'd love to play LA Noire but it's platform only. No PC port has been done yet.

I have seen NO spoilers of Portal 2. Nothing. Never even seen any game play. Staying away from all of that. That might be the way to go but I'm not convinced paying $50 for a couple hours is worth it right now.

Actually, it's $30 on Amazon right now, if you're willing to wait for shipping time. Though that price will likely be matched or bested in Steam's Summer Sale.

Have you tried the Mass Effect series? Action-RPG Space Opera. Mass Effect 3 has been pushed out until early 2012 (was supposed to be late this year) so lots of time to play - I play more ME2 than ME1.

Played 1 & 2. Loved 1, never really got into 2. Not sure why.

Well, DA 2 was worth playing but it's only half the game the first one is.

Well, I don't think I'm the guy to ask about RPGs... I've recently come to the realization that the reason I couldn't ever really get into DA or ME was because, while I liked the combat and such ok, I just had absolutely no patience for the "maintain your relationships with your underlings" fluff. Having the women in my DA party yelling at me for "you spend too much time talking to the other girls! I want to talk about 'us' now!" just made me want to murder them all. Also the "Surprise! A choice you made 2 hours ago committed you to this plot path you hate and can't do anything about" in ME2, along with the crewmembers who hate each other bullshit... guh. Not to mention the eternal bioware good-vs-evil paradigm really always coming out to "boyscout-vs-asshole, but both actually good-aligned" thing.

So, I guess if you get interested in RTS or FPS, I'd be the guy to ask. I guess I'm tired of RPGs, which is too bad, because I really used to like them.

I'd say skip DA2 and go Witcher 2. DA2 was ok, but dissapointing while Witcher 2 is living up to expectations.

What's the playing time/replayability for these things?

DA2 - Basically no replayability. Mostly it would be to play Hawke as an idealist, a smartass, or a realist. Any time it seems like you can make important choices that could change the story, you get railroaded to the exact same result, so the choice didn't even really matter. Only one choice actually determines where the story goes, and that's at the very end. Playing time is probably around 20 hours.

Portal 2- Two different campaigns, both around 6-7 hours. If you're obsessed with thinking with portals, you'll find a lot of replayability looking for alternate solutions, tricks, and learning how to fly. If not, basically none.

If you're a fan of first-person RPGs that have you wandering around, looking for something to do, Witcher 2 is probably your best bet.

Just save it Dave. You'll need it in November for Skyrim... or maybe Dead Island. We can coop.

I'd have a hard time recommending Witcher 2 to anyone who hasn't played through Witcher. It's a straight direct sequel and drops you into the world right after the events of the first game.

If you have enough money for a game, you have enough money to take your wife out to a movie. I'd go with that option.

I would go to GOG.com or STEAM and look into their RPG section. I'm sure there's ALOT of really good $10 games that would blow your mind for days.

I'd honestly save it for Dead Island, Skyrim, or Diablo 3.

What's even stupider is that his craft is referred to IN THE GAME as "Witchering".

...I'm serious.

Still want to play it though. I have the first one sitting on my Steam account and the sequel looks amazing.

Also Dave: Portal 2 is awesome but I can understand if you want to save money and wait for a sale. Replayability is limited at the time (though that may change with the upcoming free challenge maps and the release of the map editor)

I don't remember any mention of witchering but I don't remember a lot of things.

They're talking about Witcher 2, I believe.

I saw it on the Giant Bomb Quick Look for Witcher 2. It was in one of the mission descriptions.

Ok an odd and and older recommendation, but I'd say try out a little game called Recettear. Provided you don't mind the anime style visuals and Japanese language tracks that accompany the text, it's a pretty fun RPG (the idea being you're actually a shop owner in the standard fantasy setting, and you've got to sell gear to the townsfolk and adventurers, spliced in with some dungeon crawling to find better gear to sell). Also the developers don't mind a little file sharing, so you can probably find it free somewhere. Aside from that, I got nothin' really. Too poor to afford anything other than drooling over the Skyrim and Dead Island trailers. I will say, Witcher 2 does look good (I'm still waiting to get a computer that can run the copy of the first one that Seej got me though).

Witcher 2 is a great game once you get the hang of it. The story and the characters are great.

DA2 is alright but should have been so much better.
