Before seeing it, I was always told that it is great from an artistic standpoint, but wasn't entertaining at all.

I found it to be entertaining as hell. I enjoyed the story, characters, and the overall themes.

Actually, I've also never watched Citizen Kane. Should get around to it one of these days.

The best friend (Joseph Cotten I think) was totally and completely cool.

Now read the Bio of Hearst, at least the one on Wikipedia. And you'll know why that movie was banned in half the theaters in America. There were several liberties taken with the story, but Welles and Mankiewicz hit the the high points of Hearst quite well.

I was watching the Blu-Ray and looking for that (since I already knew the spoiler) and didn't see it. I think you're mistaking the final scene of the movie where the writing is very obvious and zoomed-in-on.

The first time they show the boy playing in the snow...

True story, I have a friend who is 25, hasn't seen it, and still doesn't know that Rosebud is his sled. I mean even without having seen it, I thought EVERYONE knew.

Also, did you notice the pterodactyls?

Fun fact: i knew it was his sled before i knew a film called Citizen Kane existed...


Also, cinematography hasn't advanced one iota since the film came out... and no Michael Bay, more explosions on screen at the same time don't count...

I've never seen the film and had no idea what Rosebud was. Knowing what it is and not seeing the movie makes it sound like a strange movie.

I always find it really weird when I see a famous .gif in a movie. That moment in context of the movie is kind of fucking chilling.
