...and then I put on an expensive pair of headphones and listened to the Remasters.

I am blown away.

Goosebumps. Literally. These have textures and subtleties not even I had noticed.

I don't think "fan" is enough anymore.

Explanation of "Remasters" for those unfamiliar?
It's the same thing they do with movies... they took the original recordings and digitally enhanced them to take advantage of modern technology, in order to bring out a truer version of the recordings. This means that the music is clearer and you can pick up some things you might not have noticed on previous releases of the music (I'm told a certain "Ah fuck" is more audible now than ever).

if i can find the mono set i'll probably pick up a copy, otherwise i'll pass. everything i've read has said this is only a remaster not a remix and i hate the current stereo mix on some of the beatles cds.

All of them

Please Please Me (1963)
With The Beatles (1963)
A Hard Day's Night (1964)
Beatles for Sale (1964)
Help! (1965)
Rubber Soul (1965)
Revolver (1966)
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)
Magical Mystery Tour (1967)
The Beatles (1968)
Yellow Submarine (1969)
Abbey Road (1969)
Let It Be (1970)
Past Masters (1962–1970)

Basically, heaven for a fan

This is why I include music in the list of socially unacceptable things to talk about like religion or politics, cause someone is always going to get offended, plus I never cared for people calling the bands/artists I might enjoy stupid/lame/sellouts just cause they themselves don't care for that music.

I've grown to respect the Beatles over the years (used to really dislike a lot of their music as a kid due to it getting overplayed - especially the big ones like Hey Jude) but they're still not really for me.

I think a lot of it stems from the fact that I really don't really like Paul McCarthy's voice that much. Most of the time, his voice sounds too sad and it just lacks that vibrance that I like in voices.

Having said that, I do ironically love Live & Let Die and as a child I was crazy about We All Stand Together.

I don't mind the Beatles, I just wish everyone would stop fawning all over them. I'm sick to death of the commercials and the hype over a band that broke up decades ago.

And yes, I'd be getting sick of nearly any band at this rate. So really this is nothing against the Beatles but instead about the relentless media blitz we are being forced to endure.

Overplaying music and constant coverage can kill anything - I agree. Also, Beatles fans tend to be ... quite outspoken about it. I think having respect for a band for what they achieved is all that's needed - not everyone has to love the same music. Myself, I rate Queen a lot higher even if they weren't such a big influence on music on the whole but I can name quite a lot of moving Queen songs while no Beatles song I know really moves me so the decision is easily made.

So please, love me do.

I'll always be true,
So please, love me do.

Love Knows I Love You

You make me say it 25 times a day
You make me feel you don't believe the words I say
What is a man to do to prove his love for you?
You make me feel like i'm just givin' free love away

I can send flowers tomorrow
But it doesn't mean a thing
If your heart rejects the message from mine
It's a waste of time

Baby love knows I love you
Baby love knows the truth
Baby love knows the feeling that is in here
Resting in my heart
From the very start
I loved you
Resting in my heart
From the very start
I loved you

Yeah, I look at you and know I never loved anyone more
You make me feel like a child in a candy store
What can I do to prove
That you're a dream come true
And in this dream there's a pulse from my heart to you
I can send daisies daily
But it never will penetrate
If your heart if rejects the best from mine
It's a waste of time

Baby love knows I love you (I really do)
Baby love knows the truth
Baby love knows the feeling that is in here
Resting in my heart
From the very start
I loved you (I really do, babe)
Resting in my heart
From the very start
I loved you

Baby I'm lookin for cupid
Can I tie him in a ball and chain
To see if he can say to you
The words that make you feel my love is real, oh

Baby love knows I love you
(That's right you know I love you, baby girl)
Baby love knows the truth
(Hey gotta know the truth, you know I love you)
Baby love knows the feeling that is in here
Resting in my heart
(In my heart)
From the very start
I loved you
(Yeah, that's right)
Resting in my heart

When I start posting (multiple) topics (within the span of a few days) about how Motley Crue is the greatest band of all time, you're more than welcome to trash them. But if we're going to compare Love Me Do to Dr. Feelgood, yeah, I'd argue that Dr. Feelgood is a better song. At least it consists of more than eight words repeated over and over... oh, and a wicked guitar solo ;)

Really? Really?!?!
I think one of the reasons The Beatles are such a great band is that they manage to go so far beyond that it's not even funny, and then on occasion, come back to touch on it in bits and peices. If your opinion of them centers around this, or I want to hold your hand, or other similar songs, then I'd have to say you need to go expand your knowledge of them.

HOWEVER, man am I sick of my stoner friends playing Beatles Rock Band, and people gushing over the Beatles in general. Yes, they are infintismally important, and yes, I do love their stuff. But rock n' roll has done SO MUCH in the last 50 years!

If you're only interested in some of their work, all the stereo CDs will be sold individually as well - so you don't have to buy the boxed set for one frickin' album.

As much as I like the Beatles (My uncle introduced me to them via a Past Masters II tape he made me when I was 9... got played to death in my walkman), Hey Jude can always be improved with a bit of Fry and Laurie.
