Martin Jones, 42, lost his left eye and was totally blinded in his right eye when a tub of molten aluminium exploded in his face at the scrapyard where he worked 12 years ago.

...

The surgery to restore Martins sight began with one of his canine teeth being removed and a tiny hole was drilled into it to hold a special optical lens. The tooth was then implanted into Martin’s cheek for three months to grow blood vessels and new tissue.
The lens was then fitted into the hole and the tooth was inserted into his right eyeball.
Once the tooth was moved into his eye it was approximately two weeks until Martin could see.
The implant works by the lens allowing light into the eye which restores his vision.

Wait... what?

That's all that was needed to restore his sight? A lens to let light in?

... why a tooth?

My guess is it's probably because the tooth is rigid enough to hold the thing, and won't close up or cyst over. And it's living bone that takes care of it's own needs (blood vessels merging the tooth with the eye tissue). Plus, it's from the guy's own mouth, so no rejection. No long term maintenance.

That's some sci-fi crap right there.

He looks pretty good for a guy who had molten aluminum blow up in his face. But the eye looks scary as hell.

That is possibly one of the most awesome things I've ever heard of.

So this means they've pretty much found the cure for blindness? Or is this just for.... eyes-blasted-off cases?

interesting. Well at least the "eye-tooth" won't get cavities ;) unless the person is eating sweets with his eye (which then require certain bacteria to break it down and create acid which can cause plaque. ref http://www.webmd.com/oral-health/guide/ ... h-cavities ) luckily eye bacteria is different (http://bacteriality.com/2007/11/13/eyes/)

Still... kinda awesome.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT!! That's it!! THAT'S why the Tooth Fairy has been collecting all those teeth for so long!

Step 1: Collect Teeth
Step 2: ???
Step 3: PROFIT!

Now we know that Step 2 is really "Sell teeth to doctors to heal the blind."

Next we reveal the secrets of the Underpants Gnomes.

It would have been more awesome had the artist not gotten lazy and used the same picture for the piles of socks. As it is there are several pairs there, which means there are several pairs back in the "real world".

Yes, but not with the same person.

Socks aren't unique, turbo.

Is this in any reputable news sources? It seems way too out there for me to believe.
