Introduce Yourself!

I originally intended to respond with "Yes, but at least it's not a station wagon."... But I like Imprezas. I've wanted a WRX for a while now but once again, wife can't drive stick. *sigh*
hahaha XD

anyway I drive a 1995 dodge caravan. My car dignity is gone.

I keep telling her to airbrush something awesome on the side, like a barbarian king riding a dragon and fighting an evil wizard on top of a tower or something like that but she won't listen.

Yeah robin calls it my creepy stalker van and she always wants to cruise around and yell things at random strangers.

I call it my ghetto van or Bob. Either way it's a piece of shit! I have to tape a glove in the door to make the dome light go off.

Baer I don't want my van to be too conspicuous. What if I decide to kidnap hot towel guy?

I don't need to make things easy for witnesses.

My father-in-law has that exact same car. You know, his is actually still in decent shape and has almost 200k miles on it. He uses it to haul his boat, and the stiffer springs in the back jack the backend upwards when it's not hauling stuff. It looks like a Bass Pro Drag racer.

What's the point of an automatic jeep? Might as well add these while you're at it.
My Dad had a 99 Cherokee Sport with the manual transmission. Now those babies were RARE!

I mock my van but honestly it runs great. My stepdad bought two of them for like 150 bucks. I have been driving mine for at least three years now since I rolled my Focus (RIP my beloved). It runs and that's all I really need right now.

That being said we are getting a 2010 Camaro and I want to know why we cant get some cheaper, but nicer, every day vehicles first.

I like the Camaro but we have the two Corvettes that are just gathering dust and we would get a lot more use out of every day vehicles.

Well, at least it's flat in ND so you can drive those purty fast.

Aside from where the interstate is it is pretty hilly where I live. I'm not sure where people get the whole it's flat thing from.

I drove last summer from Rapid City SD up through Sturgis on the I90, hopped on the 85 at Spearfish and basically drove a straight line all the way to Canada.

It's 'hilly' in the same sense that the ocean is 'unseasonably wet'. That said, I did grow up in the mountains so YMMV.

That's the black hills. I live in the middle of the state and it is nice and hilly here too. There are stretches of flat also but the road winds and is very beautiful. The interstate in Sodak IS the ugliest goddamn thing. Except when the sunflowers are in bloom. It is a boring strait as a rod stretch of land littered with billboards. At least until you get to the Chamberlain area where you come over that crest and you can see the river winding and the hills rising up on the other side.

I quite liked parts of SD while we were down there. Sturgis was...interesting. The war memorial was an interesting feature and just the explosion in construction in the area. I'd sure hate to be around when all the bikes start rolling in. We didn't hit any 'large' cities in ND so I can't say much about it. Not that ND has a lot of big cities - when your 10th largest city only has 7400 people in it, basically if you don't hit Fargo, that's it for population centres.

Pierre has some nice memorials and historical stuff too. I don't know anything about north dakota they are the inferior dakota. hmph.

Sturgis is loud and crowded. It is a lot of fun though. Bikers, in general, are really fun people.

I'd be more comfortable in a manual transmission if it didn't mean having to brake/clutch start on every steep fucking stop here.

And it's a lot of fun when people stop too close to you. Drift backward for a bit, give them something to think about, then lurch forward...

It really is. I know it's unmanly to admit it, but it's a pain in the ass. And heaven forbid it be slippery out and you have people right behind you.

Not anymore! They have those hill assist dealies, that come standard on the 09 - present model Wranglers. My Subi has it. It takes all the fun out of drifting backwards!

I've never driven anything with hill assist. Hell, the last stickshift I drove was my dad's bloody '67 Camaro (Obviously no hill assist..heh)

I want the paddle shifting Mini Cooper S!

It depends a lot on the characteristics of the clutch and how well you use it. When I want to, or need to, I can start moving up a slope without drifting backwards at all as long as I'm used to driving that particular vehicle. It does require more work than an automatic, but even they have the same problem on steep slopes, since you use the same foot to let off the brakes before you apply the gas.

But yes, in general manuals are more work, and therefore will be more annoying for those that aren't interested in the extra control they provide. It's not longer true that manuals get significantly better gas mileage, so the only reason to choose one is if you want it or need it, and most people don't.

I remember the 'Woody with boobs' picture making its way onto the forums before, guess the folks responsible made a whole series.
