I can't upload a pic that is quite --frankly it's *too* large, MB-wise. It's 8MB. Is there a limit on pic sizes and how can I reduce the size of it, if so?

Yes, there's a limit. I believe it tells you the limit when you try to upload something.
You can reduce an image a number of ways. Decrease the quality, reduce the image size, convert to indexed color and reduce the palette, change the format (.png is usually bigger than .jpg for images with a lot of detail).
