Limbaugh is a Ballerina

Because he can spin so fast as to blame his Fluke comments on the left:

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2012/03/05/why_i_apologized_to_sandra_fluke

Against my own instincts, against my own knowledge, against everything I know to be right and wrong I descended to their level when I used those two words to describe Sandra Fluke. That was my error. I became like them, and I feel very badly about that
Seriously the entire apology is him saying that he feels terrible for acting like a liberal.......

WOW.

There's nothing more Republican than blaming the left for your own mistakes.

Hey, everybody stands for misogyny and porn. The difference is who lets the mask slip.

One day the GOP will realize how bad Ingram, Coulter, Limbaugh, and all those other hacks make them look.

As I posted on Twitter, buying contraception doesn't make you a prostitute, sleeping with Rush Limbaugh does.

That's pretty hilarious.

And let's be real here, he's going to bounce back. This is (frankly) nothing compared to the prescription drug abuse issue, which should have ended his career.

Want to read a real hate-filled rant? Be prepared to put up with A LOT of CAPITOL LETTERS and MULTIPLE EXCLAMATION POINTS!!

The article itself raises some valid points, but hoo boy is it poorly written.

Why, because he was prescribed powerful meds after a painful (and purportedly botched) surgery to correct back pain, and like half the people who experience that, got addicted and went doctor shopping? The tirade about that gets very old and shrill when repeated ad nauseum. Even the ACLU, a long time ideological adversary of Limbaugh, stuck up for him saying his privacy was being violated and the DA was fishing because he had nothing. They gave him a plea deal where he paid for their investigation and got rehab. That doesn't sound like something a DA does when he has a strong case.

This was not some guy who started doing lines of coke off a hooker's back. It's a story any of us could experience, easily.

What about the time he went to Costa Rica with a prescription for Viagra in someone else's name?

First time I've heard of that. If that's the case, how did it not blow up?

I googled limbaugh costa rica viagra and all I got were left wing blogs not even dailykos would give the time of day.

#18

Oh I totally understand how he got hooked on prescription meds, it could happen to a lot of people. My problem was always about the hypocrisy of an uncompromising view on drug abuse when it's coming from a person that should understand the nuances of drug addiction.

Well that and the hypocrisy of him crying foul on how whites have always been able to avoid serious drug charges, and then buying his way out of his own drug conviction.

I mean, it was in many ways along the lines of that one evangelical priest who ended up getting busted with the meth and the male prostitute (although not nearly as bad.) The left screwed up by jumping on it like it was at that level, and the over-reaction made them look like the bad guys, but at the end of the day it was a remarkable hypocracy on his part.

#19

GasBandit

GasBandit

Ok, but I'm not clear on how a display of hypocrisy is expected to end a career in political commentary... or indeed, politics in general.

#20

Yeah, there's plenty of things to hate on Rush for other than the prescription drug abuse.

And calling him a hypocrite has probably lost it's power too. I'd be like calling water wet. Or GasBandit argumentatitve. It's a known, established fact.

Dude that's the main thing that will always end a career in politics. Any significant display of hypocrisy by a candidate will quite often be a career ender (although Ron Paul has somehow gotten away with it.)

It's more important in the political commentary though. These guys (left/right) argue less from reason and more from emotional stances on moral righteousness, something that is a core belief and therefore unshakeable. When they act in a way that goes against their statements it makes you wonder if they actually believe the things they say, or if they are just saying it because they think it's what we want to hear.

Of course, they can say "well I made a mistake, it could happen to anyone", which is true. But that then undermines their ability to go after anyone else on small slips and the like, which is their bread and butter. Don't get me wrong, they are held to higher standards than the rest of us, but that's because those absurdly high standards are their own.

We only hold them to the standards that they feel are appropriate.

Well, other than guffawing at an old white guy who went on a Caribbean vacation with a bottle of viagra, I'm not sure how this is supposed to be bigger than his prescription drug addiction.

Rush is the master of hypocritical rambling that nobody but the "vast, left-wing media" ever call him out on while the conservatives either agree with him or pass off his crap as being "entertainment and not to be taken seriously." Let's go down the list, shall we?

  • Drug addict who knowingly doctor surfs and gets his maid to buy illegal drugs while at the same time calling for harsher punishments on those caught with drugs.
  • SMUGGLED illegal drugs from the Dominican Republic (viagra specifically). But of course white men are okay to have sex even when it's not medically necessary. He joked on his show about being detained for the illegal drugs, saying he got them from Clinton.
  • He vehemently opposed same sex marriage as it detracted from the institute of marriage. He's been married 4 times.
  • He states that he is a firm backer of the US military and of freedom of speech, but when soldiers spoke out against the war in Iraq he called them "phony soldiers" and ridiculed them.
  • He is against stem cell research and said that Michael J. Fox was "faking it" in a commercial.
  • And then there's the whole Susan Fluke thing.
He's a horrible person. He's racist ("Barack the Magic Negro"), misogynistic (Sandra Fluke) and a hypocrite of the highest order.

And so has Barack Obama, George Bush (both of them), Bill Clinton, Ronald Reagan, and just about every other politician one can name.

It's more important in the political commentary though. These guys (left/right) argue less from reason and more from emotional stances on moral righteousness, something that is a core belief and therefore unshakeable. More like only right wingers are held to standards at all. Left wingers are just expected to be degenerate, and it's accepted. After all, you can't be a hypocrite if you don't have standards to live up to, right?

Technically, if "everybody" does something, doesn't that de facto make it "OK?" Obviously it does - all these hypocrites are still in politics (or at least didn't end them because of hypocrisy).

A law was broken, but Rush is a rich white dude, that means he gets out of jail free.
No, rich white dudes (and rich black dudes too, coincidentally) get out of jail by paying through the nose with expensive lawyers. From what I read in that article, they searched his bag, found viagra, asked him what the deal was, he said the name on it was his doctor's, for privacy's sake, and they took the bottle and let him go on his way. No trial, nothing. Never went anywhere.

I realize a lot of people have problems with what Limbaugh says, it is just noteworthy how often the counterargument is ad hominem.

I remember just before he lost his hearing, he used to refer to himself as "talent on loan from God." Then he made the announcement that he lost his hearing. My first thought was, "God made a Repo."

Then it turned out that he lost it due to his Oxy habit...

Wikipedia says he's already had to have them worked on once. I guess such things are repairable. Gonna have to find another way. If I were to try, I'd start sniffing for tax evasion, personally. Seems to work for most things.

No, its more like Right Wingers are held to standards of personal morality that they choose to preach. Left wingers don't preach those standards (like drug abuse and gay stuff), therefore are not attacked for it.

This is why the whole Clinton thing was such a joke. The right tried to attack a democratic president on his violation of right-wing morality. Most everyone on the right was up in arms of course, but everyond on the left was like "so what I don't care what he does in the bedroom."

It's also why Santorum's Tort Reform is a joke, because he and his wife chose to sue a doctor (well chiropractor) for well over the limit he himself feels is appropriate.

Or why Ron Paul's attitude on the excess of government spending is a joke, when he is one of the largest appropriators of earmarks.

Or why Warren Buffet's commentary on the rich not paying enough in taxes is disengenious when he is being investigated by the IRS for tax evasion. (Same goes for that treasury secretary whats-his-name.)

Or why Newt Gingrich is a scumbag for attacking Clinton over an affair while he was having an affair at the same time.

Or why Obama's talk about the importance of due process in shutting down GitMo while apparently caring little for it in the targeted assasinations of civilians.

If you want to attack the actions of a political opponent you have to do so using their own standards. When they violate their own standards of action you can show that their internal logic contains clear contradictions that are exposed through their own actions.

It's not that democrats lack standards though, it's that the standards they have set for governance do not involve personal morality. They don't care what you do in your bedroom or behind closed doors, that's for you to decide. Because republicans have chosen to stick to these issues they have opened themselves to attacks on them as well, and the reason that you see more attacks like this than any other is because for the average american it is far easier to understand "he cheated on his wife with his illegal immigrant maid" than "he did not appropriately assess his assets as a 41-37D priority on the XR7 documentation."
