Mass Effect 2 Paid DLC Announced

I suppose I should wait until I know the price to pass judgment, but thus far it's a bit "meh" for me.

Let's see, the Dragon Age DLC with a new companion was $15, but at the same time, a lot of people got it for free. The other DLCs were ~$5. I assume the price model will be about the same.

The real question is, can you nail the new companion?

All they need to do to sell the new xpacs like hotcakes is increase the sex scenes to God of War 3 like levels.

Perhaps, but didn't Mass Effect already have a DLC with a companion and a mission on it? You could just compare it to that.

Dayumn... something else for Mass Effect 3 to be interesting. Oh man, I need a job, stat.

No, Mass Effect had no extra DLC companions.

As far as I know, they never added any new characters in any of the DLC for ME1. Bring Down the Sky effectively added a new planet mission and the Pinnacle Station DLC was basically a holodeck.

If you meant ME2, then yes, they already added Zaheed and his accompanying loyalty mission.

I hope this new character is a techy so I can go back and keep legion. The decision of which tech person to kill was REALLY hard for me. The second decision was easy, I sacrificed Zaheed with no problem whatsoever.

Yes, Bring Down the Sky was awesome. It also was easily doable early in the game, and yeilded the best tech/biotics equipment for your main character right off the bat.

I hope it's not like Zaheed, cause he's like not a FULL character, no dialog trees, etc. If we're PAYING this time around, she better be a full character.

Except that it's possible to complete the finale without having any killed.

First you need to have all the Normandy upgrades and make sure all your party members are loyal to you. You should also research as many upgrades as you possibly can. After the Normandy gets attacked and the crew gets abducted, you have time for one (1) planet landing or mission before heading through the Omega 4 relay or Bad Stuff[sup]TM[/sup] will happen to your crew. Anyway once you get inside the Collector base there are a few different ways you can do things, but here is how I did mine:

  • Legion went through the ventilation tunnels
  • Jacob led the first fire team
  • Mordin escorted the survivors back to the Normandy
  • Samara created the biotic barrier
  • Garrus led the second fire team
  • I took Thane and Samara on to fight the Reaper and the rest stayed behind to hold a defensive position

And that was it, it really wasn't too hard.

I am here to post and remind everyone that I'm still unable to choose between Samara and Tali. Why can I collect them all? :D

More details on how to get everyone to survive at the end:
1. A loyal tech specialist needs to go through the vents. The only choices are Tali or Legion. Anyone else and they'll get headshotted trying to close the door.
2. A loyal military leader needs to lead the first fire team. That's Miranda, Jacob or Garrus. Anyone else and they'll get your tech specialist headshotted. Contrary to appearances, Zaeed is actually a bad choice here, since his missions tend to end with only him alive.
3. Any loyal squad member can be sent to escort the survivors, though people tend to choose Mordin due to his squishiness at the "hold the line" section.
4. The biotic barrier requires an exceptionally powerful (and loyal) biotic, so that's Samara/Morinth or Jack. Anyone else and they'll falter at the end, and one of the squad members with you will get eaten by bugs.
5. The second fire team requires a loyal military leader again, so that's Miranda, Jacob or Garrus. Anyone else and they'll die after coming through the door.
6. Holding the line is a collective effort among the team members left behind. Each member has a hidden "hold the line" score, which is boosted by being loyal. If the overall score is too low, people start dying, starting with the squishiest members: Mordin, Tali and Jack. Gun-toting soldier types excel here, with Grunt, Zaeed and Garrus having high "hold the line" scores.
7. Any non-loyal squad member you bring to the final fight will get killed by debris.

I'm here to post and remind everyone that I'm still pissed that there are still absolutely no male love interests for a male Shepard.

I'm here to complain that all the female romance options suck, regardless of if you'd rather sleep with a woman or not. :(

I used Legion as the tech, and he still got shot. Also, everyone was loyal but I still lost Mordin during the escape after the Reaper.

Yeah, Legion got killed for me, as well. I also lost Zaheed and Miranda, neither of which I really cared about. I HATED Miranda. Everyone else, including the crew survived. I do know that Miranda died because she was the only one that wasn't loyal. She dropped her loyalty over Jack and I wasn't able to get my paragon up enough to get her back.

Who'd you have leading the first fire team?

Who'd you bring to the Reaper fight? (By extension, who did you leave behind to hold the line?)

Huh... I wasn't aware that getting everyone to survive was that hard... I got everyone through in my very first playthrough, but I keep seeing people getting all prissy about losing such and such. I'm glad I didn't experience that the first time.

I can't resist using Garrus, so he was on my team from finding him until the end of the game. I had Legion on the tunnels and I think I picked someone bad for the fire team, might have been Samara. The Reaper fight was Garrus and Miranda, Samara was the biotic shield (that seemed like a no-brainer), and Grunt took the crew back to the ship. I had Thane lead the extra diversion team, which was also wrong, as he died. I ended up losing three people.

Same here.

FemSheps are supposed to be in for a treat. This was teased by someone from BioWare, so maybe finally a fem/fem option? Though it's more likely it'll just be a kiss during the mission or something.

On another note, Hammerhead DLC is free, this one is paid. I think the Hammerhead would've given a better value for money feeling, but I'll end up buying it anyway so who cares.

Yep, Samara got Legion killed. Also, if you brought Garrus to the Reaper fight and had Grunt escort the crew, then you removed two of the best line-holders from that section of the game, (plus the death of Thane, which removes yet another gun from your team) which probably explains why Mordin got killed.

Everyone was loyal for me except Miranda. I sent Legion through the vents, Samara for my biotic, Zaheed leading the firefight, Garrus went with the survivors, and I brought Thane and Samara with me for the Reaper. I lost Legion, Zaheed and Miranda.

Legion got shot because you made a bad choice in you fire team leader. Zaheed is a bad choice for fire team leader in both cases. Miranda died because you had stripped the defensive position of several of the best defenders.

I do find it interesting that they make the whole ending like it's own little meta-game of choices. You have to make the right choices to survive, just like you are a real squad leader. Any mistakes can lead to death. When I played, Garrus was my fireteam leader both times, because I knew he was a good leader based on his reputation as Archangel. I actually got scared when I saw him get shot during the second section, but thankfully it ended up only being a graze, as he was perfectly fine.

I am actually kind of sad now, because I would like to get the thief chick BEFORE the last mission just to see what new dynamics she might add. Thankfully I got a lot of saves, and I did want to change my outcome and blow up the facility on my Paragon. I will just go back to the save before the IFF and replay all those missions.
