The man's work is timeless, and I know that when I have kids I'll be digging out his old books to read them to the little bastards.

Oh that is so sad He was such and interesting man. i heard an interview with him on npr once. He had a very eventful life.

such a great interview. So poignant, so sad.

Until that interview I would've been, "Oh. Maurice Sendak. He wrote that cool book". But afterwards, my opinion and respect for that man has increased thousand-fold. He really did something beautiful with his time here. And just now, on All Things Considered, I heard a great conversation about Sendak from his close friend, and again, made me all sad and introspective and reverent of Sendak's legacy.

I have never actually read "Where the Wild Things Are," but I recognize it's effect as an icon for so many people.

Maybe it's time to pick up a copy...

It's very child-like. In every way. I saw a lot of Sendak's influence in Bill Watterson's work.
