[Movies] MCU: Phase 5 - To Kang or Not to Kang

The only time retitling the movie after its release should have been John Carter. I will defend this hill to my dying age, but it wouldn't have bombed if it was called "John Carter of Mars."
It was in earlier marketing… but hen it changed the to something like just JCM, and then… just plain John Carter. But almost all of it, I think I remember A poster with it, failed to mention Edgar Rice Burroughs. Marketing screwed this movie, and potential series, from the very start.

When it was coming out, I remember being so uninterested because the title, John Carter, was just so bland. John Carter as a name, even with "...of Mars", attached, sounds more like a middle school teacher or your friend's dad. It's such a dated title at this point in time for something actiony/scifi. Honestly, they should have called it something else entirely, and just mentioned in the marketing that it was based on ERB's John Carter of Mars.

Went and saw Thunderbolts* this afternoon. It filled what it set out to do. I enjoyed it, unlike Nick I loved David Harbour because he just embodies the Red Guardian. I’m not saying Nick is wrong for the way he feels, just that I felt differently. I liked Geraldine Viswanathan’s part, she seems to always enjoy the part she’s playing. Enjoyed both cut scenes, and answered a question I had from a part I read in the credits. Now I’m looking forward to both Fantastic Four and Lilo and Stitch, seeing the L&S trailer on the big screen has now sold me on the movie.

I don't know that the name really mattered that much. I don't remember a lot about it, but I remember watching the commercial and thinking "this looks dumb."

Thunderbolts was really, really good. But also quite different than expected.

Where was the "good guy fights bad guy with similar powers"? (Oh I guess that kinda happened)
Where were the constant quips from everyone? (...Oh)
Where was the potentially world-ending but somehow inconsequential final fight? (...)
Where was the post-credits teaser setting up a bigger movie in the future?

Oh. It turns out that the formula can work if you actually make a good movie with good writing? Who knew
