Yes, I know there's a thread on it already, but that one is closed and I can't open it back up to ask my simple question.

I just got this game for my birthday (late to the party, I know, but I don't care about multi-player so it doesn't really matter). I have the game on the easiest setting and am still dying 4-5 times a mission. Do I suck at this game or is that the norm?

I'd say it'd be normal to die 4-5 times on an average mission on NORMAL... On easy it's a little odd. Is this your first FPS?

I don't have version 2 yet, but I do have version Modern Warfare. On Normal, you can die often, even on easy (which I start out) you can die, if you just rush out and try to take em all. There IS tactic involve and cover... lots and lots of cover.

Yeah, don't be pulling a Rambo or John Wayne here.... the name of the game is stay in cover, pop up and grease one guy in half a second, then hide again.

It wouldn't surprise me if you're dying this much to grenades, though.. I hate the grenades and dogs in call of duty games.

Ditto on the Grenades.These guys were lobbing em at you as if you were paying em to do it.

gotta keep an eye on those grenade indicator. If you hide in one place for too long (like 2-3 seconds) they will start lobbing them like there is no tomorrow

as for dogs, they are a pain in the butt. you just have to keep your ears peel for those incoming barks.

I had just gotten to the level where Russia is invading last night (w/ a nice reference in the title, "Wolverines!" ) and kept getting hit by guys I couldn't even see and usually when I was between covers. It is NOT my first FPS, but I do tend to have a casual play methodology where-in I'm not much for tactics and do try to run & gun. Which is probably why I fail.

Yea.. run and gun will get you killed by trenched soldiers and snipers. you be surprise how many time I get pick off then I try to gun down the guys in front of me but didn't see the 3-4 soldier perch in higher elevation and just pot shot me to death (which doesn't take much like 3-4 hits)

Run & Gun will get you massacred in the CoD games. Basically, creep around cover (crawl if you're under fire to make you harder to it), and take advantage of your smoke grenades if you're just getting blown away while running to cover (if you have them, MW2 tends to give you flashbangs, even on missions with a lot of open space).

Also, make sure that when you do run to cover that you're actually running. You won't be able to shoot anyone while you do it, but you'll move a lot faster.

I basically do what GB suggested in the single player campaign. Crouch and peek around the corner, kill whoever you see, run to your next cover, repeat the process, and watch out for grenades.
