Morgan Spurlock, a documentary filmmaker whose McDonald's takedown "Super Size Me" captured the zeitgeist and an Oscar nomination, has died of cancer.

"Morgan Spurlock, a documentary filmmaker who captured his own psychological and physical symptoms from eating McDonald’s every day for a month in the Oscar-nominated 2004 feature “Super Size Me,” died Thursday in upstate New York due to complications of cancer. He was 53.

Spurlock’s family confirmed his death.

“It was a sad day, as we said goodbye to my brother Morgan,” says Craig Spurlock, who worked with his brother on several projects. “Morgan gave so much through his art, ideas and generosity. Today the world has lost a true creative genius and a special man. I am so proud to have worked together with him.”"

Sad for his kids. Hard to lose a parent that young.
Sadly, his misconduct sure tarnishes his reputation.

It’s weird that Twitter randomly decided to trash him all at once a few days ago and then he died.

I believe it happened with all the talk of fast food prices that people remembered him.
His sudden death is a eerie coincidence.

Right? Was just seeing that.
I've seen most of the documentary, and while I felt some portion of it to be psychosomatic in nature/origin, much like @ThatNickGuy it raised awareness. He may have been wrong about some stuff, but so were the people who thought that burning happened because of flogistans, and their (wrong) first steps still helped advance our knowledge of chemistry.
