Mothership Zeta

The fifth DLC for Fallout 3 has been released. Mothership Zeta is available off Games for Windows Live, costs the same as the other DLCs.

Currently it appears reviews for MZ have been mixed, with some people saying it's pretty much another Operation: Anchorage, being quite linear and combat intensive. I haven't gotten it yet, waiting for more reviews first. Anyone downloaded it, or intending to? Any thoughts?

Yipes! I still haven't even gotten Point Lookout!

I better get back to my little "Evil Incarnate" Fallout girlie!

I should post some screenies too....

Little sad that this will be the last expansion till Fallout 3.5: Las Vegas though.

I'll probably get it. I've downloaded all the others and I'm a big sci-fi geek, so this should be fun.

From what I've seen so far, it's both linear and sandbox. Once you reach a certain point on the alien spaceship, [spoiler:tugpc143]you wake up a bunch of historical guys (A Samurai, a Cowboy, and a soldier from Operation Anchorage. A Gemini era astronaut suffers a bad case of freezer burn and doesn't make it.)[/spoiler:tugpc143] and get to choose which of the areas you want to tackle first. However, once you get on the Alien Spaceship, it looks like it's a one way trip until your done.

The weapons all look to be energy based (except the stun sticks) and have a very Retro Future look to them. They are also very awesome and VERY good. Some of them even act like energy based Grenade launchers!

There are also lots of logs from Abduction victims scattered throughout the ship. These are ether hilarious, depressing, or shocking. They actually did some good voice work this time around.

All in all, from what I've seen, it looks like it's better than Broken Steel or Point Lookout. They finally found a good mix... too bad we aren't getting more.

yes, let's try not to have "fun"

Fallout 3 must remain true to the gritty, post-apocalyptic scenario it has created.

Even though the burnt-out wasteland hundreds of years after the war is factually inaccurate. Just check what happened around Chernobyl for proof.

I'm waiting for the Fallout 3 game of the year edition this october so it will have all the expansions. I've only played the original without all the add ons replayed that game probably about 20 different times. Decent rpg

'cause a fallout game wouldn't have aliens?
It's not that. A simple random encounter is fun. But an entire DLC dedicated to it just takes away from the Fallout atmosphere. So I'm skipping it.

Whoa, really? Cause I think Broken Steel's the best DLC, followed by Point Lookout. Hmm, now I'm thinking of getting Mothership Zeta.

I know they had crashed UFO's, they were fun easter eggs.

Doesn't mean I want to go dancing with martians.

I'm not 'dictating what a game is', I'm just saying I don't want to play it. That's really as simple as it gets.

There's a difference between a fun easter egg that not everyone will ever see, and a whole quest/DLC focused on the premise.

But still, I admit that I recently realised something when I read about the absurdity that Fallout 3 is(to me). I'll admit that I generally always view Fallout as Fallout 1, which is quirky, post-apocalyptic world with some neat hidden easter eggs, but is overall as serious as the average RPG can be. Which is also why I generally facepalmed about all the 'lulzy' things in Fallout 3.

But then someone reminded me that Fallout 2 was also filled with tons of lollerstuff. You had intelligent Deathclaws, gangster towns, scientologists, ninja's, ghosts, porn studio's. From what I heard, Tactics has something similiar. And to not even get started about the BoS arcade game. Basically, I shouldn't be surprised anymore about this kind of thing. The Fallout franchise evolved into something I personally didn't want it to evolve to, but to expect something like Fallout 1 is naïve at best.

(granted, I *am* naïve and hope that Obsidian will do something more F1-worthy, but I'm not holding my breath)

Still, does anyone know if they will release a 360 version with all the DLC on it? I think I'd pick that up at some point for a pretty cheap price. With all the DLC, there should be more than enough interesting sidequests to explore.
