Huh, look at that. The only 3 sitcoms I actually follow on that network.

30 Rock needs to go. Community should get one more season, then be let go (don't want it to rot). Parks and Rec is slumping. Yeah, I agree. NBC needs to burn this mother down and get another group going.

What? Slumping? This season of P&R is amazing

It's still one of the best shows on television but it's definitely not as good as last year. I think the whole political stuff is boring and repetitive. Either way, I'm not disappointed it's going off the air--every single one of these shows had a good run, and Community's resurgence for one last season is miracle enough for me.

I like all of them but do not go out of my way to watch them, which I suppose is part of the problem. I watch damned few shows religiously and unfortunately none of these are them.

As long as Community got a shortened season I'm happy.

Ever since NBC canceled Freaks and Geeks I've had no faith in them. How a great show like that could get no vote of confidence from the network amazed me. You take away their best lineup what the hell are you left with? Whitney? Celebrity Apprentice? That stupid fashion show that I would never watch but have seen the commercials? I would love to see ABC pick up those shows and integrate them in their line up with Modern Family and such. I would never have to watch NBC again. Except for Betty White's Off Their Rocker. About time someone puts quality back on TV.

#11

Frank

Frank

Well, guess I won't be watching NBC after next year's shortened seasons. All their new sitcom offerings have been straight trash.

#12

Tress

Tress

Mark my words: NBC is intentionally burning everything to the ground. I think they have a plan to fill the network almost entirely with reality shows, because they're cheap and people keep watching them (even the trashiest of them). NBC has given up on quality and is just trying to cash in on whatever trends the lowest common denominator will watch.

#13

Frank

Frank

The Community one is the biggest bummer since they won't get to do a whole school year aired appropriately as the year wears on. It would've been their last year.

No, not Parks and Rec... it's the only show that's made me laugh until i was breathless in a long time... not even Community does that.

Shorter seasons i wouldn't mind, as i found the longer seasons to spread out the funny a bit thinner in the middle... but cancellation... screw you NBC.

Community on the other hand could use a full final year of college + a movie at the very least...

Seriously though--I'd rather have these shows remain as awesome as they were until the end, and concluded successfully, instead of turning into the lurching monster that is The Office. 30 Rock already shows major signs of zombification. Kill off these shows with enough time for each of them to tie it all up properly. Then who cares? You don't need twenty seasons of a show, trust me, it never turns out well.

All Dan Harmon and the crew of Community wanted was 4 seaosns so they could take the study group all the way through college. So I'm glad they're getting their 4th season, even if it's shortened. They'll get to end it how THEY want to end it, and go out on a high note before the show gets stale.

Don't watch the other two. Heard good things though.... mainly from you guys.

I keep thinking that about 30 Rock. Then a buddy of mine buys the new season and we end up playing a drinking game where we have to each finish a beer each episode and I enjoy the show all the way through. 30 Rock still has it for me there. We just did the 5th season last weekend.

No, but 5 seasons is the best number imo... with no rushing during s4 because you're going to be cancelled, just to end up taking it to another network, but no longer have any good story for half a season because you blew it all on 2 episodes at the end of the previous season...y'all know what i'm talking about...

And Parks really could use 2 shorter seasons, one for the new situation to set in (remember the post-pit stuff?) and another to actually end things on a high note... i'll bet anything both it and Community will feel like they rushed towards a conclusion...

With the shortened 4th season, will the shows reach the magic number of 100 episodes? If not, you may not get to see them on syndication.

That's because the 5th season was still okay. Try watching this season and tell me it's as good as it used to be (drunkenness excluded)

I think the magic syndication # is dead. I've seen shows pop up on cable in syndication with only 3 seasons. HBO shows are in syndication that never reached 100. Although, that's not TV, it's HBO.

Not that I don't believe the story, but is there an official source for this information? All I can find is fansites and hearsay.

After checking Dan Harmon's twitter feed, I call (edit: not confirmed yet). There's nothing on his feed. Or from any other Community folk.

It seems vaguely ~confirmed by multiple sources~. So. I dunno, I mostly believed it?!?!?

Yeah, I'll have to admit, shows going beyond seven seasons get really stale, I'd rather 30 Rock go out on a high note.

Was I the only one that laughed at this little nugget?

#29

I don't think he meant it that way. HBO isn't network TV, so is not constrained by network rules. Cable channels are they wild, wild, west of TV.

#30

Annnd... just as the East Coast airing concludes, everyone involved confirms the news.

#32

AshburnerX

I honestly like 30 Rock, but I'm not surprised it's getting cancelled. It's very much a show where comedians get to do whatever they want, instead of appealing to broad market niches that the network wants to exploit. In other words, the suits don't care that it's funny, only that it's not bringing in the advert revenue they want.

And yes, all of these shows will be fucking Reality shows before long. The Big 3 don't know what do anymore.

I'm not seeing anywhere that Community and Parks and Rec are on their last seasons. I think both of those shows could have a few years left in them.

30 Rock and The Office, however, are ready to be put out of their misery.

I know that's being implied he said. That would be giving Charlie the credit of being clever. He's more of a blunt instrument.

I'm not sure I would consider it "clever" so much as a throwaway joke acknowledging that a lot of us watch HBO.

Also, I've never been happier to be wrong.

Parks & Rec gets 24 glorious full episodes and it's not its final season

So, from what I know now:

- 30 Rock is getting 13 episodes, and they're going to make it their final season to wrap it up.
- Community is getting 13 episodes, and they're going to potentially try to parlay it into a full fourth season at least.
- Parks and Rec is getting a full 24 episode season order.

Actually i preferred 16 myself... the longer seasons seem to suffer a bit on the humour in the middle...just make more seasons instead...

#46

I said this in another thread, but after watching the season finale, I would have been perfectly happy if they ended the show on that episode.
